I did my grocery shopping this morning too. I hope your check up goes well Mab.

Mab, must be that time of the year.
Yesterday our GP told us that their rooms are shifting to the other side of Ballarat. Bit further but should be ok.
Yesterday had a rest day. Today, dentist.

Our general check up was fine.  Had our flu shots as well.

I'm having a bit of tummy trouble at the moment so went for blood tests this morning and a CT scan this afternoon.  CT scan couldn't be done because all the paper work wasn't there.  I'm a bit p..d of about that as it was a waste of an afternoon.

The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

Good news re the dentist and doctor check ups. My root canal tooth is being a little naughty so I will see how it goes. I'm quite prepared for it to be done now.

DD spent 1 1/2 hours on my teeth. She is removing all the old fillings.  Two to go. She also ‘Topped up ‘ the tops of my bottom teeth.  She said, so that I don’t look like an old sheep. Nice to have a DD who looks after her mum. Will not accept any payment so will have to think of something nice to buy for her.
Hope to spend most of today in the garden.

Your DD is saving you a motza Chookie, dentist charges are so very high and you’re very lucky indeed that she is taking such good care of you in that regard. Apart from all the food you already make for the family I’m sure you’ll think of something DD really likes, I like to give my DD an Endota massage voucher when she’s done something really special for me.

How lovely of your DD Chookie. My dentist keeps asking if I would like some of my old fillings replaced, they are discoloured.

We went to my brothers’ for lunch. The one that lives closer. It was lovely. He had made a lovely fish pie and I took some of Chookie’s Hot Cross Buns. He is a maths teacher so instead of putting crosses on them I was bad and put mathematical symbols on them.

I’m sure he enjoyed the twist cookie, anyone receiving home made Easter buns would. I’ve had a really lazy day today before popping out to visit my daughter.

Yesterday DH and friend started on a tree pruning marathon which will keep them fully occupied over this long weekend - DH is threatening some trees with his chain saw as they are pretty old and in bad health.  First to get the 'clip' was our crab apple ... we must have got 50 kg of fruit off it ... what to do with so many crab apples? I will visit our neighbour today to see if their pigs would like them.

I cleaned out the hen house then had to start prepping lunch for the guys and dinner with dessert.  Cooking takes up so much of the day.

Another neighbour dropped in some quinces as well, so now I am searching for recipes.

Cookie, what a great idea for the buns.
Marina, I’m going to try making fruit vinegar with some of my Quinces, also jelly.  The crab apples also make wonderful jelly. I’m trying the fruit vinegar on lots of things. A splash is nice on my 2 second salad and I brush a chook with plum vinegar before roasting.

Your plum vinegar is delicious.

Can you point me in the direction of the quince jelly please.  Ta.  I found one nice sounding pie / tart recipe on recipe community but that was more for a dessert and I am trying to avoid desserts as much as possible .... way too much of a temptation for me!

Marina, I can’t find a forum recipe for quince jelly but Chookie made this comment in one of the recipes and gave the following details.

Yes you can make quince jelly in the TMX.   Chop the quinces up and cover them with water and cook until they are mushy.  Probably 30 min on varoma.  You will still have to strain them through a jelly bag.  Over night is best.  Then liquid back into TMX,  with 3/4 the volume in sugar.  Cook on varoma until it jells.

Thanks Judy.  I knew there was inspiration somewhere on the forum as I (attempted) to make quince paste once before in the TMX but I forgot about it and it turned out to be more quince toffee than paste.  I will get on to this recipe today or tomorrow.
