No cooking today as it's too hot. I will need to do some tomorrow as bread is low and the biscuit barrel is empty.

Apple pies and chocolate brownies for GD who is giving blood this afternoon.  She always thinks she needs something chocolatey to boost her up after this.

That sounds very wise of her Margaret.
Today I plan to do a Classic Loaf, start a rye Sd and bake some goodies. Everything has run out. I will turn the air con up a bit higher.

Today I made a double lot of Portuguese Custard Tarts and experimented with the basic custard recipe by adding chocolate and coffee to the mix.  Need a bit more coffee but very nice.

My rye SD was cooked today, gosh it rose quickly. It usually takes a good day but today was only about half that time. It had been in the fridge overnight. I have some fruit mince on at the moment. We have total fire bans so DH can't weld or grind or anything, so I have been trying to give him jobs. He cut up the apples for me and blitzed them in the thermomix.

I felt like cooking tonight before it becomes too hot so made some broccoli & 3 cheese frittatas plus fried up 2 large zucchini & 1 small carrot for timbales.  It only made 4 but they are very tasty.

It all looks good Judy. A good idea to cook before the heat Judy.

This morning I made 9 jars of apricot jam, cooked up the red beet I bought yesterday and made a quiche for dinner.  Left over quiche will be for dinner tomorrow.

Mab, we used to often go to the Red Hill market.  It was one of the original Farmers Markets. I still have a hand made leather handbag that I bought there 40 years ago.

Some times a brain wave turns out perfect.  I made 3 dozen Portuguese Custard Tarts.  To the last custard mixture I added 50 Gs of dark Lindt chocolate. and 1 tablespoon of instant coffee.
Perfect little chocolate tarts.

If we want a chocolate custard Chookie I will add 50g of Lindt. If you use a flavoured Lindt it gives a subtle flavour to the custard. Quite decadent, even though it is just a custard.

Report on the Panettone.  I added 1 tablespoon full of Masala and allowed to soak overnight.  ( will add 2 tablespoons next time. )
Used my home made peel. Good.
Used Aldi luxury fruit with Brandt, ( think the Brandy just walked pass)
Could add more vanilla.
Had to use ice cream scoop to form dough.
Baked 20 minutes at 170 FF.
excellent and easy, but will adjust to suit our taste

They look really good Chookie, my DH really likes these.

Yesterday I dehydrated a heap of veg for a few hours and at the end I left them to cool in there overnight.  Today I transferred to the TM and blended for 20 secs to get lovely veg stock granules.  It's to be used more as a flavour enhancer in things but will be a good stand by if wanting liquid.

DH had a taste and asked if he could have a little jar set aside as he thinks it will be wonderful sprinkled on eggs (he loves making eggs in the Kmart pie maker )  :D

Made a good sized amount too, should last a while.  :)
