Hi all, hope someone can assist!
I made plum jam straight out of the T/Mix recipe book and it's sitting in the jars staring at me, runny as anything. It's too runny to be used as jam, too sweet to be used as a plum sauce so are there any suggestions on what I can do with it?
If made in the last 48 hours and all packed into jars, can it be recooked on the stovetop in the hope it will thicken with further cooking and actually become jam? Can I recook it with something savoury to make a savoury plum sauce? Too late for any of that? Chuck it on the compost maybe? ???

Hi Kate, welcome to the forum with your first posting. Why not pop over to the Introduce Yourself section and tell us a bit about yourself. In regard to the jam problem, have a read of this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1551.0) thread, you will probably find your answer in there somewhere.

Thank you for your reply. I shall go there and take a look. I'm not sure if I read that thread earlier in searching for an answer but if it mentions being able to cook jam up again after it's already been put into jars, then obviously I didn't read that one before posting my question, lol!!
Whoops on not following protocol and putting up an introductory post first. :-[ Shall fix that shortly.

Hi KM. Get the jam sorted first. ;) I'd re cook it and add some jamsetta, bought near vanilla essence and cake decorations in Coles or Woolies.
-
add agar agar and cook it for 10 mins, it works for me .
-
This happened to me with the EDC recipe. I poured it out of the jars, rewashed them, put it on the stove and boiled for about 10 minutes with some Jamsetta - worked a treat!
Oh, welcome! :)

jamsetta is good, but lemon juice will also work. probably 1 large lemon to a TMX amount, that is about 2 Tablespoons.
-
Thank you everyone. I just didn't want to think I might be poisoning whoever was on the receiving end of my gifts by reheating it up, etc. ;)
I bought some Jamsetta and used that in exactly the way Amanda was suggesting.
If I make jam again I'll wait until the fruit I'm using is cheaper and try a couple of different methods, including agar-agar if I can get it fundj.
Thank you.

I find the best answer is to leave it as it is, And adjust the label to read "Icecream topping" or "Sauce" ;D ;D

I have the same problem. I have added more jamsetter and cooked a further 10 minutes, but it is still runny >:(
-
Me I love the plumb sauce option. Toss. It back into the TMX with some fresh chillies .

With the runny jam, put back in TMX bowl , with Jamsetta, an bring to boil, boil on Varoma for 10 mins.

I always go the topping/sauce option and my lot add it to yoghurt or ice cream (or what ever they fancy really) always gets used up ;)

I pop it back in tm and cook on varoma for 5-10 minutes. Another tip is to throw in a couple of lemon pips as they are a natural setting agent. I use three per batch. You can either try and fish them out before putting them in the jar, or just pick them off your toast :)
