Title: Nutty Chocolate Crunch
Post by: judydawn on December 06, 2014, 01:33:10 am
From Good Food Magazine (http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/887648/nutty-chocolate-crunch).  Similar but not the same as Warthog/Hedgehog (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=9491.0) slice.

250g assorted biscuits - I used scotch finger biscuits but you can use a combination of any biscuits, bought or homemade.
250g assorted nuts or a mix of nuts and dried fruit -  I used unsalted mixed nuts and halved the brazil nuts
300g milk chocolate or a mixture of dark and milk - I used Lindt  :-))
100g butter, chopped
140g golden syrup

Line 2 x 20 square cm tins or a larger tray with baking paper.
Chop the biscuits into 3 cm cubes.
Place chopped biscuits and the nuts into a large bowl.
Melt the chocolate, butter and golden syrup in the TMX bowl for a few minutes (sorry, forgot to time this step) on 60o/speed 3 until melted and combined.  It will be quite thick I found.
Immediately pour the chocolate over biscuits & nuts and using your hands, mix thoroughly.
Place mixture into the 2 tins, press mixture down and even out with a piece of baking paper on top then refrigerate for a couple of hours until set.
Cut into cubes to serve. Delicious!

The reason I used 2 x 20 cm square tins was because the original recipe used 1 x 20 cm square tin and I thought the slice would be far too thick if I poured the whole recipe into it.  I prefer small pieces of any treats or nibbles like this.

Oh my, that looks delicious!  When you say scotch finger biscuits is that what we would called shortbread?  We have a brand that you can buy here in Canada called Walker's which is a scotch shortbread.

I did too girls, that's why it's all now vacuum packed so I can't get to it  ;D  Top quality chocolate accounts for best results with this one.

I've just made this and of course I had to lick my fingers. I used 100g 70% Lindt and 2x100g Lindt milk chocolate. I put a little dried fruit in too. I used dried blueberries, cranberries and a goji berry mix. I think next time I will break the biscuits up even smaller. I put it into a 7 inch by 11 inch lamination tin.

Oh this does look good; I wonder if the orange or mint Lindt would be good. Off to the shops again.

Thanks cookie.  GD loved the packet I kept back from the hampers for myself, she ate most of it in the 2 days they were here.

That's handy Denise, no excuse not to make it now.  I've already given one hamper to friends, they tried this one when they returned home, she rang me to get the recipe as she wanted to make it to take to a friend of theirs that weekend. It was my favourite item in the baskets.
