JD you have more patience than I do.  They look great and I am sure GD will love them.

Meagan we had 4 chooks in a unit in East Freo may years ago. They used to free range around the courtyard and even along the front fence. It could be quite amusing sometimes as people would suddenly stop and back up when the realised the chicken was real and not a statue.

I keep Austalorps and Langshans at the moment They are both quite docile and good layers. I have also kept Isa Browns and Plymouth Rocks but prefer the Australorps and Langshans. The kids also used to have a couple of Silky Bantams. They were lovely to look at but not great layers.

Most chooks will lay for about 4 years.  After that you have 2 choices either let them live out a happy retirement or dispatch them.

Last night dd made pineapple fruity dream. An unusual choice of fruit but it worked well.
Tonight I will make a basil, spinach and feta pull apart and a beetroot salad to have with the last of the left over turkey and ham.

Thanks Frozzie I meant calico not muslin.  I soaked and boiled the calico as per JD's post and then rubbed flour into it but it still stuck.  I will have another go over winter so that I can perfect the technique for next Christmas.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.  The mold was mostly on the cloth but a little bit had gotten on the top of the pudding.  I think it was just that the neck of the cloth where it was tied stayed a bit damp.

It didn't ruin Christmas day for us JD because we ate some of it last night and my chooks are enjoying the rest today.  It was probably ok to keep and eat some more today but we have enough food and there is no sense in taking chances.

I think the problem was in the cloth.  I have never made a pudding before we always just bought one.  This year I decided to have a go and bought some muslin to wrap it in.  I used a double thickness and the neck was difficult to tie and very bulky. Next time I will try and do it a little differently.

I agree with you Cookie Boxing Day is usually my favorite as well.  Christmas day has always been just the family, me, DW, and 2 DDs. Then on Boxing day we would have DWs father and Grandmother when they were both still with us.  Eventually it became DWs sister and nieces and nephews plus our friends for a campaign brunch.

DW loves Christmas so there is always a theme for both Christmas day and boxing day. Having a big day on boxing day kind of stretched out the holiday so all the preparation didn't seem like it was for a few hours on Christmas day. We never really drink on Christmas day but seem to make up for it on Boxing day.

This year however it is just the four of us for today and while it is nice and quite it does seem strange. I didn't have to jump out of bed and start preparing food and we had brunch a bit later than usual.

All in all it has been a lovely couple of days with the girls back home.

Does that mean you don't like fruit cake either CP?  You sound like DD1. She doesn't like dried fruit cooked into anything and is not a big fan of jam either.

We just had the four of us DW and 2 DDs. Started the day with lots of cookies and other treats while w opened presents.  Then had croissant for breakfast.

Then had traditional turkey and roast veg for late lunch (3:30ish) Finally finished off with plum pudding made in themomix a couple of weeks ago and custard made by DD2 in her new thermomix she got for Christmas.

It has been a nice quite Christmas for us.  Tomorrow will be pretty quite too with just the 4 of u intil later in the afternoon when DD2's boyfriend arrives.

Sounds like everyone had a lovely Christmas.

I made my pudding 2 weeks ago and hung it.  Tonight when I opened the pudding it had gone moldy. Does this often happen?

For those of you based in Perth. I have bought Kale at Organic on Charles. I can't remember the address but it is in a little group of shops with an growers market.  I pass it coming off the freeway heading up Charles toward Dog Swamp. It is not as far as Cyclemania which is about 395 Charles.

I may have to grow some myself because we don't get anything exotic like Kale in our small country town.

Maddy I love the snowmen.

Today I am cooking American sugar cookies with my 2 dd (24 and 26). It is a recipe of my mother's. we make them every year at Christmas.  This year I did the mixing in the Thermomix.  When I work out the conversion I will post it.

I also knocked up a quick coleslaw to have with sausages for dinner.

It is good to have my girls home for Christmas but I wish they would stop bickering for a few minutes.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I needed a login name for m Nike plus account. I was trying to think of something to using my first name. My job is white collar and I always try to dress well unlike many people that I work with.  I usually wear a suit or at least a shirt and tie and always wear a hat. I have a couple of trilby style hats that I alternate between.

The people that I work with and my 'clients' (I am a public servant with the department of education) often tell me I look dashing or smart.  So being a runner I came up with Dashingden.
