Judy, get the best hearing aides you can afford. I sat next to an Audiologist on the cruise. He said 5% of hearing aides are sold through private companies, ( therefore offering various brands, the 95% are attached to particular companies. They are improving them all the time. It seems there are 2 types. Ones with batteries and ones that you charge over night. The battery ones are cheaper.
That’s great about your good Cancer report.

I had a chuckle at that Judy. When I go for my 6 monthly skin check my specialist says that.

Thanks everyone. Our caravan is gorgeous too, but as DH ages all the lifting etc gets too much, hence the motorhome. We decided that you can’t take your $$$ with you - so why not?  We have our health. We enjoy travelling round. Possibly not many more trips over your way, but you never know.
The heat is really knocking us round, with no air con.

Well I’ve been to see the local audiologist (know her from her visits to the nursing home) and I’ve come home wearing a loan set to see how I go. She is a one-woman business.  So far so good - comfy to wear, not really visible and they have rechargeable batteries. I’m watching the cricket at volume 15 instead of 20-25 and when she did a word test, I got 2/10 without them and 9/10 with them so that speaks for itself. I can keep them until after my cataract surgery later this month then we will order them if I’m completely satisfied.

Cookie, you’re so right to enjoy life whilst you’re still up to it as things can change at the drop of a hat as we age. Pity about the a/c, you don’t need this delay at getting it fixed.

I did my grocery shopping today as it was much cooler. I actually got very angry as I was waiting in a queue for a checkout and when the people in front of me were part way through the girl put her “let us serve you at another checkout.” I asked her which one as no others were open. The lovely man that was being served told her I had been there an hour and my peas were defrosted. Not quite true.
All the self serve checkouts were full, with queues and the others were all blocked off. I tried ringing while I waited but they weren’t answering the phone.
The check out girl could see I was angry but I explained to her that it wasn’t her fault at all.  I did send a complaint when I got home. Either I’m getting old or the heat got me, but I didn’t feel it was very good service.

Not a nice situation to find yourself in cookie, they were obviously understaffed.

That is very frustrating, Cookie.  If I feel it appropriate I do complain to the staff member and always point out that I do not blame them personally, but that I would like my complaint to be conveyed to their manager.  Similarly, when I actually manage to find a person ... yes, a living human (shock horror) ... to serve me I always say how nice it is to have the personal touch and to also convey that comment to their manager.

Judy, how are the hearing aids going?

I had a pig of a day yesterday.  I was in the shop by myself.  Fortunately the workshop staff were there to help cover for me as this is the busiest time of our year.  Anyway, I found a massive anomaly in my bank reconciliation that took me most of the day to sort out, in the interim I spent ages on the phone to our accountant sorting out the end of financial year papers, my quarterly BAS and superannuation.  By the end of the day I was a walking zombie.  Hopefully today is Friday which means I will get a break over the weekend.

I bet you were relieved when the day ended Marina, you wouldn't want too many days like that.

Much to my surprise the aids are great. I haven’t experienced the things people told me to expect, eg taking a month to get used to them. I was worried that they would amplify the constant tinnitus I’ve put up with for years but it tones that problem down. No-one has noticed I’m wearing them as they’re quite a thin banana shape and are a very comfy fit, in fact it’s now better to have them in and not have put up with the tinnitus. I had asked my hairdresser to leave the length longer over the ears recently in preparation for going down this path.

Judy thats fantastic re the hearing aids .
Did a quick trip to beach for a night . Shopping food bookclub and time with DD . After leaving home I had an encounter with a flying tyre! Caravan in front lost the rear second back tyre . All ok as it stopped and I then tooted and flashed lights , they kept going even over a crossroad ( thankfully no grain trucks ) finery had to drive beside them to stop them ! I then gave him a lift back to were the tyre was ( he had a tarp ) took him back to caravan ! But a friend whose farm we were at was moving sheep and came over and of course offered to help him . Very cheeky friend of ours ! He said I’ll have to tell Your DH that you are picking up middle aged men on the road !! This was very funny , but Bruce may have laughed too . Yes I did contact Dh straight after and say that I was needing a good samaritan . Arrived home late last night and then shopping at Bunnings with the men today , they took forever. My hips were very stiff after sitting in the car for the last three days .

Funniest thing I ever saw at a supermarket checkout was when a long line of people weren’t moving, a very impatient woman went up to the check out chick and demanded she ring the manager and open another line. Amazingly it happened immediately.
Cookie, I’ve seen people leave their trolly full and walk out.

Hearing aids have certainly changed and come a long way since I was  young.  I remember out old doctor had one, it was about the size of a 400 ml can (except oblong, not round) with wires everywhere.

Good news that your tinnitus is under control.

Marina I do hope your Friday was better.

Judy that is excellent news re the hearing aids.

I had a call from the store manager yesterday. He just couldn’t understand how this could have happened to me‼️ I told him to check the photos I had sent and he could see it was true. I repeatedly told him the girls on the checkout were not at fault and he wasn’t to growl at them.
He eventually told me if it happens again to ring.  I mentioned that I had done that, twice and no one answered. He then said to ask for him and told me his name. We will see how things go. He said he was new, which I thought was the case as you could see changed in the store.

Men preparing for crutches coming next week . Harvest is on pause . DS has spent the arvo sealing up the shearing shed bathroom! An ant infestation has him very busy.

Yesterday we had a car run. The January run is always to the same place. It’s a park down the coast a sand dune back from the coast. It’s always cool and has lovely big trees. Very pleasant. DD was working so it fitted well that we could pick her up.  The old car caused a lot of excitement at the hospital. DD said she felt like a celebrity. 😀😀😀😀
