Introduce Yourself / Re: TM Raving Fan in Mareeba
« on: February 07, 2010, 04:33:50 am »
Welcome Noelene.  You are in the right place if you are a raving fan. I remember Mareeba well, we were stuck in the main street with an accident just down the road, towing our caravan! I ended up getting out and going shopping until it was cleared. Left DH in the car to move when it cleared.
We did love the area though, it's very beautiful. People were very friendly too. Although I guess the locals get a bit fed up with tourists, we certainly did when we lived in Broome.

Fig Jam

EDC

Tweaking
I used CSR jam sugar for this and only the juice of one lemon. I cooked it for 45 minutes at 1000 and then 10 minutes at Varoma.
Next time I make this I won't puree the figs. I'll simply cut them into halves or quarters and cook it on  :-: so that there may be pieces of fig left in the jam.

We like it very much although it's not quite what Mum made when I was a kid.

With all those reccommendations we're having this tomorrow night, except I am going to use some salmon I will steam before and some prawns to make  a seafood risotto.

Baf you are certainly right. I have a friend who is a consultant and she has done 3 or 4 demos for some people.  They ask her to come along and to make ???????. They often have different friends at the demo and she has sold several machines that way. She sort of does upmarket demos. She also does the usual ones for first timers etc too.

Thanks for the information TheCrone.
Judy, your garden sounds as though it is coming on really well. I'd like to have a small raised bed in our 1 metre at the back but DH says we're away too much! He is probably right, although we didn't get away much last year. Hopefully the SA trip will be on this year after we do our car rally in September. (12th I think) I'm really looking forward to it.

Oh I see. Dh used to teach at the high school there quite a few years ago and I did a bit of relief at one of the primary schools a couple of years ago. Was a bit shaken when the deputy said a few of the Dads were bikies, but she then added that they 'were generally very nice'.
Hope they don't steal all your lovely food.
What are midyim berries and tomatillos please?  Do you have great success with the blueberries?

Isi another lovely recipe. I often make a marble cake (3 colours) and have never thought of just putting it in the centre like that and letting it spread itself. Thanks.
