I've made the new kitchen my busy project while I job search. I'm having a great time. It's been a very busy month getting the kitchen contents OUT of the kitchen and secreted in all parts of the house garage and on the pool table at my SIL's :D
We have STUFF!!!!!!
Finally finished everything last night at about 11:30 - just the last minute things that needed to be cleared off the bench top and a quick wipe of the sink and benchtops. It's the best it has ever looked ;D
I have hopefully attached a pre-ripped out pic of the old soon to be forgotten kitchen. The new kitchen has an island bench, new appliances and a composite stone benchtop. It will be a couple of weeks until it happens, but it's all very exciting!
-
Have fun Fiona doing your new kitchen don't forget photos :)
-
how exciting - cant wait to see the pictures of your new kitchen.
-
Thanks ladies - I am having fun right now. Spent about half an hour outside earlier while the concrete floor was cut to allow pwer to come to the island bench.
Very excited!
At the moment the room is bare except for a ladder, lots of dust and Adrian my kitchen installer :D
-
Oh DG I can only dream!!! ;D really excited for you ! Would so love to be doing just that myself!!! Good luck and hope it all goes very smoothly for you!!
-
Ooh do we have photos of Adrian the kitchen installer too. ;D
-
How exciting Fiona.Looking forward to the new kitchen photos.Stay sane :D ;D
-
A new kitchen, very exciting. What colours are you planning on?
-
Looking forward to seeing the new kitchen too DG - it is something every woman wants and needs ;)
-
How exciting.
Good luck.
-
Exciting time ahead for you DG. Hope it all goes to plan

Late evening update..... (I just looked at the time and wondered where the last hour went)
No pic tonight as I'm on the iPad and I take horrible pics with it. I'll load one in the morning.
So we have a bare kitchen with now - no Lino! The new flooring is going in next week so the Lino had to go, but it's not part of the kitchen :)
I had the wonderful help of my SIL Ros along with my 2 nieces and my sister and her teenager :D. We got the kitchen and more than half of the entry done. Just the hallway to go ( and the carpet, but that's on Sunday)
Anyway I shall try and get a pic of Adrian the installer when he is here on Thursday. Tomorrow is a plasterer and sparky day - with a later start yay :D
When finished my kitchen will be black bench top with white cabinets. I'm planning on a light blue glass splash back - I can't wait :)
Cheers
-
Good grief how could I forget.........
Everything is going well except for the lack of heat. The heating system was checked but I didn't actually switch it on when e plumber left, he said it would be ok. Anyway we were out so when we arrived home after 9 I went to turn on the heating to find a dead controller. After checking the meter box, the system isolation switch etc... We have decided it is something I the roof and can't really be fixed tonight :). I love my hot water bottle.
So I shall be calling the office early tomorrow to try and get that sorted :).
I'm still excited 8)

Can't wait to see your photos! :)

Did you know that when taking a picture with the iPad that you can hold your thumb or finger on the button while focusing as it does not take a snap until you release the button. Might help.

Thanks for the tip Gert - I'll try it and see how it goes ;)
Not much happening today. Tim the electrician has been here since lunch time putting in the copious number of power points that I MUST have in my kitchen (it does include the under cabinet lighting power).
The roof mounted flue for the range hood has been installed and I am now getting the opening between the kitchen and the lounge room square set. Trevor the plasterer has just started so I'll let you know how long it takes later (its just after 3:30pm).
So no pic for today but I do have a couple from yesterday. The first one is with lino and the second one without - I admit my legs are aching just a wee bit from lifting lino tiles last night - but it will all be worth it.
Cheers
-
A bare kitchen always lonely, doesn't it. Looks like a long day's work for you - from 2.30 pm to 9.40 pm! No wonder you are aching.
-
can't wait to see it finished.
-
Hang in there!! It will be so worth it!!!! Would so love a new kitchen so I'll live vicariously through you for the time being ;D
-
a new kitchen is wonderful but not having a kitchen whilst its being renovated is not ::)
-
Yes being without a kitchen is a bit of a pain - buut we are going to my brother and SIL's place for dinner in the evenings which makes it really easy.
I do have to be here during the day, but it has allowed more time for me to post on the forum :D
As we are getting stone benchtops it will be about 2 weeks until we have a gas cooktop and an operational sink (I do have the sink - its currently in a box behind me ;D)
It will be great when it's in. I plan to have a TM demo when it's complete - I'll let you all know when if you are around come and have a look!
-
It will be worth all the hard work and time DG. How nice will it be to cook in a brand new kitchen :D
-
This is sooooo exciting.

Great stuff. When we do our new one there is a large farm shop with home cooked ready meals less than two miles away. That should make it easier. Get some paper plates for when we have no water.

No no never paper plates! Do it in style. Chipped or broken tiles, bits of slate , trashed pipes anything but paper plates. Lol !
I would use palm leaves.
Gert
-
Ooh Gert you could use banana leaves too!
-
Hope your water isn't off for too long DJ. You will have to go to the neighbours for a shower.
-
Ooh Gert you could use banana leaves too!
Oh yes I had to do that once when I cooked a whole huge Barramundi on the BBQ it hungover both sides but I refused to cut the headand tail off. Look spectacular laid out on the beautiful banana leaves.

Update - yay! We have cabinets installed!!!!!!
We weren't without water for long Michele - just a few hours on Monday to isolate the kitchen plumbing. So all good :D
The kitchen is going well, I think the plan is to have all the cabinets done today. The stone people are coming for their bench template this afternoon - the holes for the sink and stove were done this morning. Oh yes it was an early start today - but not too bad. 6:30am is better than 6:00am ;D
So the photos show the work in progress. They are taken roughly 2 hours apart - so about 1pmish, 3ish and 5ish yesterday.
It was great seeing the reaction from my sister and nephew when they arrived home yesterday - they're excited now that they can see what I was imagining!
-
I am so excited . This is terrific. Good work. Can't wait until 1700 to see what they did today.
Gert
-
It's wonderful watching a new kitchen come together DG, thanks for sharing it with us.
-
dragonfly it's looking fantastic, i think it would take me quite a while to get used to the orientation of the bench being different. Will you look out from the island bench to outside or back into the kitchen?
-
Looking good, dg!
-
Im excited for you D.girly 8)
Can't wait to see the finished pics!

Lucky you, Gert. Banana leaves are very expensive here. They are used a lot in Malaysia: to wrap sweet desserts, wrap Nasi Lemak, as plates at Banana Leave Rice restaurants. The subtle aroma of the leaves adds another level of natural goodness to the food :)
-
Looks good, love the photos :)
-
First item on today's shopping list... Lottery ticket!!! ;D ;D This is so good to watch it all happening for you!!!
-
Kitchen is looking great :)
-
I'm having a marvellous time sharing all of this!
The kitchen won't be finished this afternoon - apparently it's a big job ;) It is all coming together now. Most of the cabinets are in place - including the work cupboard - yay! (That's for when I work my way to my Kitchen Aid goal - because I really MUST have one).
I'll definitely post pm photos today though :D
The templates for the stone benches are done now - they are going to be picked up today. The rest of the electrical is happening next Wed and the plumbing the following week when the stone is installed.
As I am having the bamboo floors installed on Monday Adrian (who is too shy for a photo - sorry Robyn) will be back next week to finish the pantry. So it's taking a wee bit longer than expected, but as I have to wait for stone for functionality it really doesn't matter. :)
Photos later.
Cheers
-
Oh we just wanted a photo of a cute tradie.... :)
love the photos though.
-
Friday afternoon is early knock off for my kitchen installer - more time for me to stand and stare as well as open and shut all available door and draws ;D I do love soft close!
So, as mentioned earlier it isn't complete, but I'm not annoyed. I think Adrian has done a great job so far and he will be back next week to complete the job - yay!
I've attached 3 photos from various angles in the kitchen. What is amazing to me is that the kitchen actually looks bigger now. I'm not sure that comes across in the photos though.
Cheers
-
That "swoon" you just heard was just me . . . . ;D ;D
-
Lovely kitchen and lovely pics, giving me ideas so thanks very much.
-
GF - I did hear your swoon, but you're in good company I do that when I look at it too :D
DJ - glad you are getting some inspiration. I have to say I have loved planning my kitchen. I took my time, did a lot of research about the products I wanted to use and how I wanted it to look. I found going to the Grand Designs Show last year was a big help. I ended up basically planning it myself and pitching my design to the 5 people I had come in and quote for the job. I got my own way on most things too ;D
-
Lucky people,it gorgous. Thanks for sharing
-

Here they are free!
-
Thanks DF.
It will be my fourth kitchen to design and we will have to budget very carefully. We won't have the luxury of pitching to get quotes.
I think we'll be putting it in ourselves, and hopefully finding someone handy to help.
I look forward to the finished pics.
Ps no banana leaves here..... Only big leaves are rhubarb and they're poisonous!
-
Well it's been a big 3 days since the last post. Saturday was spent emptying the lounge room to pull up carpet. Also pulled up the carpet and remaining Lino tiles in the hallway. There was a crew of 11 (Including 5 kids) who worked incredibly hard to get this done. Oh and we removed all of the skirting boards too. That was fun! My brother and I left a few commemorative holes in the walls :D
A big thank you to all of my family for pitching in and helping us get it done!
Today was the big flooring day! It looks magnificent. Yes I have photos, but I'm in bed so I'll post them tomorrow. Should be the last kitchen construction day tomorrow, so nearly complete kitchen photos complete with awesome floor coming to you soon ;D
Cheers
-
I am exhausted just thinking about it. Look forward to the pics.

Love the photos
-
OK so it's been more than two weeks - but the bench tops are in!!!! So I now have a cooktop, sink with running water and a dishwasher - bonus :D
The newly functional kitchen has been busy too. Had my brother, SIL and kids over for dinner last weekend and last night we ad a joint birthday party for my SIL and her eldest son. The kitchen has had a workout. Cooking for 15 done! I've been challenged to go for 20 next time ;)
The only thing left are the splashbacks. They have been measured and I need to finalise the colour.
The photos show the now clean kitchen - with benchtops :D and a close up of the splashback colours. They are similar, one is slightly more blue and the other slightly more green. I'm not sure which one to go with. I'm open to ideas from my fellow forumites ;D
I'm loving the new layout. We managed to have 5 people in the kitchen last night making sure dinner was served and hot without running in to each other.
If anyone is local you are welcome t come and have a sticky beak :D I'm near Frankston in Vic.
Cheers

The kitchen is gorgeous DG. I see TMX has its own spot too. :D
-
Lovely . Do I see a scrubbie?
Gert
-
Yes Michele - I designed just for the TM - it even has it's own downlight :D
You sure did see a scrubbie Gert - they're great aren't they?
-
Looking very very nice :)
Either colour for splashback will be gorgeous!
-
Lovely!
I'm sure you'll enjoy spending hours in there.
-
Looks great DF. Either colour looks great. The splash backs both look lovely.
-
lovely photos
-
Looks wonderful, what are your floors? Both splashbacks would look great
-
Love the kitchen! And love the colours for the splash back (without seeing much else I do like the one on the left, but I know nothing of how the light reflects/other colours at your place etc). I'm taking notes for my kitchen ;)
-
Just gorgeous DF.I'm envious of all that cupboard space ;D. Either splash back will look great ;)
-
Love your kitchen and all those cupboards. I like the tile on the left. If that any help.
-
It has certainly come on DG, not long to go now. It is really lovely, such a nice big island bench too. Pick a colour for the splash back that you'll be able to live with for a long time as it will be very expensive to change down the track ;)
-
Great photos of your kitchen DG, love the island bench. ;D

Thanks for the help choosing ladies :D I think I will go with the colour on the left - just need to check it with the colour of an appliance I have on lay by - want to make sure it comes close to matching ;D
Bedlam - the new floors are an Embleton bamboo called Beach House. I love it!
We did have a few teething issues with some things. The oven had an incredibly noisy cooling fan. After a weekend and one service call I had a repairman here the following Monday. Turns out the fan was not installed properly and was hitting the casing when it was on. Now fixed. Same weekend - we had a leak in the cupboard under the sink (all plumbing was done on the Friday). Luckily it was a small leak and easily contained by a Tupperware container :D. Damien the plumber came by on Monday and fixed it up. If they are the only problems I'm very lucky!
One of the funniest things to watch was the boys bringing the new fridge inside. It had been sitting in the garage for about 4 weeks and I was hanging to have it inside and working. They couldn't get it through the front door - even after removing the security door. Had to take it the long way around the house and over a grassed area to take it through a set of double doors in the lounge room. All very amusing I assure you. 3 fellas - one fridge - the fridge almost won!
Cheers
-
Great photos DG. What a lovely kitchen you have.
-
Gorgeous DG...the pop of colour from the splash black really compliments your kitchen....what appliance are you matching it to?
-
Madly I'm getting a kitchenaid. I have wanted one for ages :D. I'm getting the ice colour.
I have nearly refilled the pantry - yay. Still a few things to go, but it's getting there.
-
I love my KitchenAid. Cakes are fluffier somehow :)
-
Maddy I'm getting a kitchenaid. I have wanted one for ages :D. I'm getting the ice colour.
Nice one DG 8) you know, you will have to name her too when she arrives :D
-
I have a pink kitchenaid...
