Is there a limit of how many chickens you can keep in suburbia?

Hi Mich, yes . . . each council has it's own set of rules - you do need to check with them as to the number of birds permitted, if roosters are allowed, and any specifications regarding coops (distance from dwelling, etc).

Thanks GF. One of our councilmen lives 2 doors up. He put an end to me getting goats.

Funnily enough I was just wondering how you got on with the goats.

GF I have just been admiring your gorgeous girls. And those beautiful eggs!

I don't think you'll regret having the chickens at all (unless they get themselves into the wrong garden at the wrong time.

Chooks are definitely addictive. Because of the egg supply and because they are so entertaining, it's impossible to be cranky with them even if they do destroy the odd bit of grass or garden  :-)) I got an awful fright when I went up to the backyard yesterday and I couldn't see the chooks. All there was was a few piles of feathers on the grass. My heart was in my mouth because the chooks up the road had all been taken by a fox a few weeks earlier. I must have made a noise because there was suddenly a flurry of dust and then up popped 4 chooks from the holes they had dug in the backyard  >:(;D

Our very much loved weiro. I actually think he and the budgie run this house.

;D ;D ;D ;D  You too, Gayle!  |There are parts of our yard that I think must resemble the surface of the moon with all the little "baths" they've established for themselves!  When my DS first came across a chook in its 7th heaven in a dust bowl, he thought it had had a seizure of some kind ;D  They seem to go into their own little world as though they've been hypnotised  - it's great to watch them.  When our 2 big black Australorps had their first moult there were black feathers everywhere!  When DS went outside his first thought was that the dogs had attacked them . . . ;D  They do look rather sad and pathetic when they're moulting but just gorgeous when their new feathers eventually come through . .

Cookie - your little bird looks such a character!  I can just imagine they have you wrapped around their little wing tips!! ;D

Does he miss you when you go away Cookie, I love those birds - we call them cockatiels over here.

We call them cockatiels or weirdos Judy. You are right about having us wrapped around his wing tips GF.
He misses me Judy, but doesn't fret or anything. Just doesn't do a few of his tricks for DD. the budgie though isn't that fond of me. He won't give me kisses or anything.  :-X

Chilli is asleep, so I have time to do a few things while he recharges his batteries!  ;D

The little fella slept through last night! Better than my kids when I first bought them home from hospital!!

It was so cold outside last night and I felt guilty, but he snuggled into his bed and didn't make any noise til about 6.30 this morning when the maggies started warbling. He joined in so I figured it was time to get up anyway.

He is very funny, is a happy little dog - always wagging his tail, and as yet has not peed or pooped in the house always does it on the lawn when we put him outside.

thank you everyone for your kind comments on the other thread. I think he is very special  :)
