Title: Kitchen Sink Dish Washing Cream
Post by: achookwoman on October 20, 2012, 06:13:06 am
Kitchen Sink Dish Washing Cream.
This is still in the experimental stage.  I wanted a dish washing liquid, with no nasties and would have some bubbles, or if not bubbles then no scum on top of water.  I rinse my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher.  This makes 2 liters and a small squirt is enough for one sink full.

90g of pure soap
100g washing soda
300g lemon dish washing concentrate (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5891.0)
200g boiling water
50g vinegar
1 teaspoon of either Tea tree Oil or Eucalyptus oil

Grate soap in TMX
Add washing soda and mix 20 seconds/speed 8
Add boiling water, vinegar, lemon dish washing concentrate and oil and mix.
Pour 1/2 into each  2 liter bottles and top up with warm water.(May need to be thinned further)
Cool and shake several times while cooling.

Good one Chookie, another product we can make ourselves.  Will give it a go when I next need to top up on dishwashing liquid. Have all the ingredients except the lemon dishwashing concentrate.

Seems OK although not many bubbles.  Does a good job of cleaning the dishes.  My only concern will be to see if the oil is enough to prevent it going off.

Although there is not much vinegar in it, would a little less give more bubbles? Is the lemon dish washing concentrate in with the dish washing liquids in the supermarket (never noticed it before ... but then, I have never looked before!).

Chookie, this is great.  I have been looking for a homemade dishwashing liquid for a while now.  At what stage do you add the lemon concentrate??

Karen,  OOps.  I added it with the boiling water vinegar and oil.  I will amend the recipe.  Thanks for pointing it out.

I have just done 2 very dirty wash ups with it.  I used 1 heaped tablespoon in hot water and it did a good job.
Needs stirring as it cools.  This seems to be the only issue.  I might try and boil and mix more in the TMX to see if I can make it more consistently creamy.

Chookie, if you shook the container each time before you used it, that would work wouldn't it? I do that with all my home made liquid products.

Yes,  but probably could be watered down more.

How is it with your hands or do you wear rubber gloves?

JD, Inever wear gloves.  This recipe still needs tweaking.  It works well but has gone thick again.  Some sort of chemical action,  I think. Can still squirt easily from bottle with very small hole.  Maybe I am a bit too fussy.

Chookie, I've just made a batch of this.  Misread the directions  :-)) and thought I was making 2 x 2 litres not 2 x 1 litres.  Luckily was not too far into pouring the hot water into the second bottle of mixture so mixed it all back together in my larges tupperware container, blitzed it again and I ended up with 1 full 2 litre bottle plus 1/4 of another one.  As I don't do sink washing very often it will do me.  Mine is a caramel colour ???  I'll shake it before using and will let you know if it goes thick, perhaps not being in a squirty bottle it won't be any trouble to get out and as I have more water in my mixture than yours, perhaps it will be alright.

Chookie, mine goes hard too.  I just give it a shake and it loosens up though.  Because it doesn't form froth and bubbles I thought I'd try some in the dishwasher.  The dishes were all nice and clean but everything had a dullness about it.  I wiped everything over with a tea towel before putting them away (plastic was OK) which bought every item back to normal.  It did leave residue in the bottom of the dishwasher though which I poured very hot water over to dissolve it so I don't think I will use it again in the dishwasher.  I am also going to try it as a washing machine liquid to see what I think of it in there.

Judy thanks for testing it.  There is something in the mix that makes it set up.  Think I will cancel this recipe and start again.

Chookie have you seen this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10540.0) recipe for DIY Dish Drops which CP posted in a list of recipes of home made cleaning mixes?

Judy,   I will give this one a go.  however i am a bit worried about the 'yellow Gel' that she mentions an this is what i am having problems with.  I lot of recipes I looked at had Borax in them so i am avoiding this.

Chookie I am using yours to self- clean the TM bowl.  It doesn't froth up like normal dishwashing liquid so works well.

Have spent all day playing with this stuff.  Made the one off CP's site, DIY dish Drops.   Same problem so just kept adding water.  Instead of making 600mls it made 3 liters and works well,   So then back to my original recipe and added more water.  Now works much better.  I like mine better as it smells nice.  I am also worried that the DIY dish drops from CP may not keep.
I kept re mixing the gel in the TMX.  Very good for this.
Will amend recipe to say,  pour 1/2 into each of 2 liter bottles and top up with water.  This still may not be enough water.  Will test further, however I have bottles of the '''''cream' every where. ;D ;D ;D ;D
