Name of Recipe: Homemade Milo (GF DF)
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons linseeds
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons pepitas
1/3 cup almonds
1/4 cup brazil nuts
1/4 cup cashews
1/4 cup pecan nuts
1 cup cocoa powder
1 cup rapadurra
Preparation:
Start by grinding linseeds and sesame seeds into a fine powder - speed 9 approx 20 seconds.
Place everything else except the cocoa powder and rapadurra in the bowl and blend on speed 9 for 5-10 seconds, checking and scraping down until a fine powder. Don't blend too far as you don't want paste.
Add cocoa powder and rapadurra and mix through, about speed 7 for 3 seconds, checking and scraping. I helped mine with the spatula a little. Taste a little as more sugar can be added if necessary.
Use exactly like milo. This recipe filled my 450g Milo tin so it does make a lot. Keep in the fridge for about 2 months.
Tips/Hints:
The texture is exactly like milo, with a very fine crunch. It is a much darker brown, and has a deeper chocolate flavour so may need a little more/less than original milo usage.
A few suggestions for using it.
- Sprinkled over ice-cream or chopped fresh fruit
- In custard instead of cocoa, adding great nutritional value
- Blend up fresh banana and milo for chocolate banana custard
- or frozen banana for chocolate ice-cream
- mixed in yoghurt
- sprinkled over cereal or porridge in lieu of cocoa pops
- add to pikelet/pancake mixture before cooking for chocolate pikelets
Nutrition
I combined two recipes and added the cocoa and sugar myself to create Milo. The source of the original two recipes has some useful information as follows.
The ground nut combination offers complete protein, a good dose of antioxidants and many other vitamins and minerals. Great for children who are underweight, have a poor appetite or are fussy about eating protein.
The seed combination is like a food multi-vitamin as they are rich in all of the macronutrients and most of the vitamins and minerals a child needs to grow and blossom.
If you leave out the cocoa and sugar, you have a fantastic "booster" for any recipe as the nut/seed mix is quite flavourless by itself. It does change the texture of some things quite a bit (eg yoghurt) so don't get too heavy handed.
Stir a teaspoon through porridge, homemade dip, mix with ricotta, cottage cheese or jam. Mix through breakfast cereal or yoghurt, add into milkshakes or smoothies. Add to any bread, cake, muffin, scone, pancake etc.

quirkycooking - Wow, this is great. I ground mine for longer and I think next time I'll probably try grinding the linseeds & sesame seeds first til really fine then add the other seeds & nuts... the little seeds weren't ground quite enough. I made the kids a drink with it by putting 6 tsps (or so) of the 'milo' into the TMX, adding a handful of raw cashews and two cups of water (or so) - grind sp 9 for 1 minute and pour into cups with ice - they loved it! I made mine hot with rice-almond milk - tasted good, especially the sludge!! Thanks Cathy.
ILB - I must admit I was a bit sus on the recipe and how it would hold up in a drink as DD is reasonably hooked on milo at the moment. BUT as I sit her typing I'm actually sipping a hot cup of homemade milo and quiet impressed. A little gritty and finding myself chewing as I drink, only because I keep stirring it. I did actually grind the nuts for 30 seconds until I nearly had a paste but it powdered up nicely when the cocoa and rapadura sugar were added.
chelsea has posted a recipe for bread & butter pudding using this recipe - on page 1.
riv mum - Kids love it! I added a little extra sugar to sweeten it to their taste and used a random combination of nuts from the pantry.
Jules - my verdict on the recipe - very tasty - and a good substitute for milo.
zebraa - it is really fabulous Cathy! Thank you. I used raw sugar b/c I didn't have rapadura and found it a bit sweet. Next time will blitz the sugar first so can use less (sweeter as it dissolves better) and use 1/3 c sugar and add some stevia to make it healthier. I'll also make a 1/2 batch (unless of course I am giving some away which I am sure I will be as this is so good).
em - on first taste I wasn't sure if I liked or not ! then I mixed it with milk and it is sooo yummy.
Meagan - I love it by the spoonful.
chrisford - it's a bit too sweet for me - next time I might put 3/4 cup sugar instead of a cup. But what a great recipe, the kids LOVE it and I'm thinking it's going to be great for them at afternoon tea just to get some extra nutrition in before their squad swimming.
bigTcup - This is fantastic & the kids LOVE it!!
jsthermie - it was so yummy that I on my own, went through it in less than 2 weeks!
sue h - The verdict - DH loves the homemade milo and I even reduced the sugar a little. My kids and their friends love it to. Thanks for a great recipe.
Vivaroo - I made a small batch and I liked it, my son didn't first time but tried it again and likes it now.
Amy - AMAZING. It's homemade milo!!
Tasty - YUMMO!! Not quite the same in a glass of cold milk however great by the spoonful!
cottchick - Well I have just made my first batch (half a batch due to my lack of faith) and it is absolutely amazing!! WOW!! I would say it even 'dissolves' better than milo.
Jad posted an alternative recipe on page 6.
Chookie - Fab and thanks to all who have made it and made suggestions. I used the best Dutch Cocoa and Xylitol. Tested it in a mug of hot milk. I don't know what I did different but not gritty at all. I am now going to make CP's biscuits and Chelsea's nutty Milo Slice. Thanks a million.
KerrynN - Just finished our first batch in a THX milkshake, so have restocked the fridge with a fresher batch. Yum!
classmyth - I wasn't as happy with the result as I expected to be. I mixed it with cold milk, and it simply sank to the bottom, so it felt like drinking a glass of plain milk with a very sweet solid chaser. I will try it again tonight with hot milk. I can see it will be nice sprinkled on ice-cream and in baking, so all is not lost.
Debbiebillg - Cyndi O'meara version http://changinghabits.com.au/recipes-1/home-made-milo
rejit - I like it! Made it as a warm drink first, it tasted nice but was a big gritty. Then I 'cleaned' the bowl (leaving some milo in) with milk for a yummy cold drink. Niss c loved it (she's never had a 'chocolate' milkshake before. Will be trying it in the slice next :-)
Bootobethin - This "Milo" is great. I often have it for breakfast. I prefer it in cold milk rather than warm.
Jamberie - I think it will be a great breakfast for me and healthy snack for DD. I think it tastes very much like Aktavite more than Milo but is still super yum.
Use this recipe in Chelsea's Nutty Milo Slice (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4169.0)
or CP's Milo Biscuits (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=11374.0).

Tonight I'm going to mix some more cocoa through. When mixed into the milk, it's a bit sweet and stays white. Will update with additional cocoa once tested tonight.
-
Thanks very much CB79 - great idea and so easy to make :-* :-* :-* I haven't had Milo in years, but might have to give it a go on ice cream like the old days. :-))
-
I ended up not adding more cocoa. It was DH that said it wasn't chocolatey enough, and since he's not the target audience, it doesn't really count ;). My girls are loving it, and that was the aim - they're getting extra protein etc in a form that they will accept.
When DH and I feel like a Milo on a cold day, we just add in some extra cocoa.
-
Thanks for the update Cathy. I have been waiting to see what you thought about the cocoa. Will have to give it a go. I wonder if cacoa powder would give a similar result. Worth a try. Yum!!!
-
Wow, this is great Cathy!!! I LOVE you :-* :-* :-* and my kids will love you too!!! They miss milo so much :'( and this will make them very happy! ;D
-
I'm in the process of finishing off my cocoa powder, and will be switching to cacao, at least for things like this where the point is nutrients.
Looking forward to hearing how you like it. Obviously it doesn't dissolve in quite the same way as milo, but the "sludge" is delicious!
-
I was flicking through the new edition of Better Homes last night and found this Milo recipe. I'm not a huge Milo fan, but will post it here incase anyone else is interested. I have roughly converted it (not to grams though).
Choc-Fruit Bread and Butter Pudding
Preheat oven to 160o.
Cut 4 thick slices of fruit bread into triangles and put in an ovenproof dish (doesn't say if it is greased).
Put 1/2 cup Milo, 2 eggs, 2 tsp of vanilla extract and 1 & 1/4 cups milk into TMX bowl and whisk 20 seconds speed 4.
Pour milo mixture over bread.
Sprinkle 1/4 cup additional Milo over top.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until pudding is set.
Stand for 5 minutes before serving.
-
Sounds like a nice variation on traditional bread and butter pudding. Thanks Chelsea
-
Normally you butter the bread ? so if not I'd grease the pie dish.
-
I just made this and the kids like it - yay! I ground mine for longer, and I think next time I'll probably try grinding the linseeds & sesame seeds first til really fine, then add the other seeds & nuts... the little seeds weren't ground quite enough. I made the kids a drink with it by putting 6 tsps (or so) of the 'milo' into the TMX, adding a handful of raw cashews, and two cups of water (or so) - grind sp 9 for 1 minute and pour into cups with ice - they loved it! I made mine hot, with rice-almond milk - tasted good, especially the sludge!! Thanks Cathy :D
-
Glad you like it Jo.
And if you're busy, they can keep it simple and help themselves - just mix the milo into the milk. My girls love making it themselves, especially love getting the lid off the tin. They feel so proud doing it themselves.
-
Normally you butter the bread ? so if not I'd grease the pie dish.
I did wonder about the butter part of "bread and butter pudding". Probably wouldn't hurt to spread a little butter on. ;)
-
Jo, I made my second batch today and incorporated your suggestions. I've amended original recipe.
-
This is one recipe that I wouldn't have to fell guilty for when sprinking over icecream ;) :-*
-
This is one recipe that I wouldn't have to fell guilty for when sprinking over icecream ;) :-*
Wonder how it would go on toast - thin spread of butter with this sprinkled on top - instead of 100 & 100's.
-

Like your thinking Cathy79 ;)
I must admit I was a bit sus on the recipe and how it would hold up in a drink as DD is reasonably hooked on milo at the moment. BUT as I sit her typing I'm actually sipping a hot cup of homemade milo and quiet impressed. A little gritty and finding myself chewing as I drink, only because I keep stirring it :-)) I did actually grind the nuts for 30 seconds until I nearly had a paste :o but it powdered up nicely when the cocoa and rapadura sugar were added.
I think this will pass though ;D And am lucky enough that most things that come out of tmx she is wrapped that I could make it in there so is willing to embrace it. ;D
Thanks Cathy :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Hope DD likes it - I keep mine in the original milo tin, and I think that helps.
Obviously nuts won't dissolve the same way milo does, but it still works really well I think. Nice sprinkled on homemade yoghurt for chocolate yoghurt as a "special treat". And in pikelets or pancakes instead of some of the sugar.
-
They're all very good ideas Cathy. DD is generally pretty good if it's come out of the Tmx, so will see.... Test tomorrow! On top of that have just swapped her onto soy milk as she's been complaining of her tummy hurting for some time now and seems to go when we limit her dairy intake. Once I explained how it should be better for her tummy she's agreeable and I think actually feels a little special. So I'll take a similar approach with this ;) :-))
-
This sounds delicious - and it also sounds as though your kids are eating/drinking it as fast as you can make it. But if it does hang around, I'd like to suggest you store it in the fridge. The good unsaturated fats in the seeds and nuts are very fragile and can go rancid quite quickly. Rancid oils have lots of free radicals buzzing around and are not generally good for your health. I store all open nuts and seeds in jam jars in the fridge (or even the freezer) to keep them fresh longer.
-
Sorry Cathy - just realised you said to store it in the fridge :-))
-
No problem Anne - at least it's hard to miss now - and you've explained the reasons very well.
When you say all seeds in the fridge - does this include when they are whole, or just when they are minced up like this recipe?
-
Ohhhh I made the mistake tonight of tasting a spoonful when I was showing it to Mum.... I can see that I'll eat most of the batch :o :-)) It's so yummy and I'm easily convinced that it's "healthy" for me :D :D
DD wasn't overly impressed this morning but I'll work on her. Maybe wean her on it with 50/50 blend first.
-
Made this tonight. Kids love it! I added a little extra sugar to sweeten it to their taste and used a random combination of nuts from the pantry.
-
So i made this today - thought it needed more cocoa on first taste - so added an extra half cup, but after the first glass of "milo" (with milk) had sat for a bit it was actually just right how it started, so I made a half batch to make it up to 1.5 batches of "original" recipe. But now, my question is - how long will this last in the fridge. My eldest is suspected to be allergic to nuts so until he finishes getting tested he wont be having any and my youngest is only 13 months, so probably wont be having too much really either (although should be ok from the allergy perspective).
my verdict on the recipe - very tasty - and a good substitute for milo - which is great cause there were 3 things i miss from my pre gluten intolerant days, bbq sauce (woolies home brand IS gluten free though so finally found one brand), bread (actually have a reasonable recipe (non TMX) but takes 2+ hours to bake - and should try the gluten free TMX one sometime), and milo (which it seems I have just found a good substitute for).
Thanks
-
Jules, glad you like it. We go through a batch in about two weeks, but it should last about 2 months in the fridge.
A few suggestions for using it.
- Sprinkled over icecream or chopped fresh fruit
- In custard instead of cocoa
- Blend up fresh banana and milo for chocolate banana custard
- or frozen banana for chocolate ice-cream
- mixed in yoghurt
- sprinkled over cereal or porridge in lieu of cocoa pops
- add to pikelet/pancake mixture before cooking for chocolate pikelets
-
Must make this again. DD is gluten sensitive and I hadn't even thought to check the Milo ingredients for gluten, but that would now make sense that she has belly aches after having milo :-)).
She wasn't overly keen on this milo originally, but is very accepting of alternatives once she realises the other options hurt her tummy.
Love those suggestions Cathy :-*
-
Yep Nesquik is gluten free - but it is not really a milo substitute :)
And good ideas, I just have to be careful that it does not go in things DS1 will want - at least not while he is around anyway
DS2 is going to try it in the morning. Despite being skin tested for peanut allergy I did not want to try different nuts (o peanuts) at night.
-
Really sorry for not replying sooner Cathy - I have had lots of intermittent problems with my internet.
I definitely keep all open packet of nuts and seeds in the fridge. Unopened packets should be OK, but you can't really be sure how the shops etc have stored them re light and heat.
If I buy in bulk and think I might not use them for a few months, I put them in the freezer.
-
Thankyou SO much for this - I am really looking forward to trying it. Milo is about the only Nestle thing we have in teh house and I am so glad I may have a (far superiour) alternative that the kids may actually drink!
-
I've never heard of Milo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milo_(drink)) :-)) but i like your recipe Cathy :). Could be an interesting spread using honey instead rapadura.
-
That's a great idea Tebasile. Could make a spread, or a topping for homemade icecream. Maybe swirl it through icecream before it's fully set for a nice effect.
-
Oh yum, thank you! Now we can have Milo without giving Nestle money.
-
I made it today and it is really fabulous Cathy! Thankyou.
-
Glad you like it Zebraa. Can certainly adjust to taste easily.
-
i made this today, on first taste i wasnt sure if i liked or not ! then i mixed it with milk and it is sooo yummy, i will be giving this to my ds as he is an incredibly fussy eater and nothing good gets in his mouth (he would rather not eat at all, then eat anything healthy), so i am sure he wont mind a chocolate drink now will he! i love that it is full of vitamins and minerals so i dont feel guilty having a glass of it!
thanks for another great recipe
-
Glad ds liked it Em. Try Chelsea's Nutty Milo Slice (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4169.0) recipe using the homemade milo - it's a great treat that you'll be happy that he eats.
-
Hi
I am just wondering if I can use something else instead of the rapadura as I am not sure where I can buy this locally?
Thanks
-
Hi and welcome Ferral Family. You could use another type of sugar instead of rapadura (try your health food store) - should be the same ratio.
-
Cathy I can't believe it has taken me this long to make this :o I love it by the spoonful. The boys have never had original Milo so I may just use it in cooking etc thank you so much ;D do you mind if I send out a copy to my customers? Referencing you of course :)
-
Meagan, share as much as you like. Make sure you try Chelsea's Milo Slice too - it's fantastic!
-
Cathy I can't believe it has taken me this long to make this :o I love it by the spoonful.
LOL - that is a great recommendation :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
can somebody please tell me what rapadura sugar is, thanks nicky :)
-
Nicky rapadura is a more natural sugar than raw or white. There is a whole thread on it if you search for rapadura. You can use raw sugar if you want to.
-
Here's my article on rapadura (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2009/07/rapadura-sucanat-muscavado-turbinado.html), with some links to suppliers :)
-
thanks meagan and jo, i have just found the "show new replies to your posts" thing (very computer lingo) so i had just been searching for things that i couldnt remember where i had posts. so this has made it so much easier. hence the long awaited reply!
thanks nicky
-
I just cannot wait to try this, one batch without the cocoa and sugar to add in cakes and things, and then the other as some milo. I can tell this place, and my thermomix, is going to be life changing, seriously.
-
Well I will also be another one trying this recipe. I refuse to buy Nestle products and miss having Milo.
Now I won't have to..... :)
Thanks so much for sharing.
-
Made this today and it's a bit too sweet for me - next time I might put 3/4 cup sugar instead of a cup. But what a great recipe, the kids LOVE it and I'm thinking it's going to be great for them at afternoon tea just to get some extra nutrition in before their squad swimming. Thanks! :D
-
I love this sprinkled over vanilla custard (made with rice-almond milk), and my 9 yr old loves to have toast with homemade nut butter and this milo sprinkled over the top! (Well, I don't know about sprinkled - I think he uses about a quarter of a cup for a piece of toast!!! :D ) So yummy...
-
Sounds good on toast Jo. I'm working on nut-free nutella at the moment - delicious! Just have to get the texture and process right.
-
Oh, very good Cathy!! Let us know what you come up with!
-
missed the grinding the linseeds and sesame first as i read the other link and so it was perfect except the linseeds werent ground up..still quite good though and mine looked great...someone way back mentioned it was quite white but mine wasnt at all and i know linseeds come in brown and white so maybe it was that as i used brown linseeds..anyway thanks and maybe someone can alter the oth'er link
:)
-
I've kind of glossed over this in the past because I'd never heard of milo (do we have an equivalent in the UK?) but I'm going to give it a go in the next day or so. I have an underweight 9yr old and I think he'd love it ... :)
Nik
-
my grandparents were from the UK and the equivalent drink is probably akin to Aktavite. Milo tho is more chocolately and dare I say sugary, but knowing this forum and not having made it myself (but hope to in the near future just to compare), this recipe will be a very healthy alternative.
-
OK, hands in the air in confession .... I've never heard of aktavite either! :-))
But thank you CP63 for your explanation :)
Nik
-
Eek! Ovaltine then :D is probably a closer match. One of those drinks you mix with milk and stir around, and when you have finished you have a big milky moustache on your top lip ;D
-
Milo has granules, rather like coffee granules, with a choc malt taste. My kids always ( when I bought Milo) poured milk into a glass then put a few spoonfuls on top and didn't mix it until it was half gone. Think that's a typical Aussie kids way of eating/drinking it!!
This yummy homemade Milo is a lot darker and richer. First time I used rapadura sugar but last time I only had raw. The rapadura one was a lot nicer. Still haven't tried it as a hot drink as I'm thinking the nuts wouldn't dissolve and it would taste a bit bitty!
-
hools, you're right, the nuts don't dissolve, whether the milk is hot or cold. Definitely give it a go as a hot drink. Any residue in the bottom of your mug is delicious to eat, maybe even the best bit (not like bits of coffee >:()
-
I have been wanting to make this since I first got my Thermomix (just under a year ago now) & today I finally made it. Why did I wait? :-)) This is fantastic & the kids LOVE it!! ;D
-
Isn't it great??? Always have some of this in the fridge!! ;D
-
Finally made some. I like it - hope the kids do too!!! :)
-
YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!
I made this as per recipe and it was so yummy that I on my own, went through it in less than 2 weeks! I found myself just craving for it as it's so cold here at the moment!
When I made it, I only had the light coloured rapadura (came from a different supplier than normal) and then I had run out of rapadura so the second time I made it I had to use coconut palm sugar - it tasted even better! There's no way this lot will last 2 weeks (especially if I share it this time ;) )
To grind the coconut palm sugar up, I added it in with the nuts etc., and it almost turned to butter - and so I'm not getting as many crunchy leftover bits to eat at the end - but I'm also not choking on it if drinking whilst having a conversation as would happen with the first batch - not sure which way I prefer :-\
Anyway - either I'm going to have to increase our share in our co-op cow or else I had better try some milk alternatives with it - I'm thinking cashew nut milk? Any suggestions?
All this milo talk - guess where I'm off to next ..... :D
-
Can't wait to make this! The kids will be rapt, we haven't had milo or anything similar for ages.
What do you think though - brown sugar, raw sugar, or wait another week till my rapadura arrives??
-
Wait for the rapadura it is lovely with it :)
-
So this one passed the my TM recipe test, my DH. Although he loves TM food, he doesn't believe that you can replicate something store bought such as milo. I made milo the other day as he was really fanging for some and I won't buy it now. The verdict - he loves the homemade milo and I even reduced the sugar a little. My kids and their friends love it to. Thanks for a great recipe.
-
Thanks Meagan - I'll hang out a bit longer! :)
-
@jsthermie: Definitely try cashew milk with it - we do, and it's delicious!! I just use 100g raw cashews, add 600g water & a dash of pure maple syrup, whiz up on speed 9 for 1 1/2 mins, and voila - delicious creamy cashew milk! Sometimes I add the milo to it before whizzing - add a couple of ice cubes for cold milo, and heat on 80 degrees for hot! Yum :)
-
I don't know what I like more - my new Thermomix or this forum! Homemade Milo WOW - I've stopped buying it just because it's so expensive and my kids go through it so fast. I can't wait to do a cost comparison when I try this.
Can I ask - cocoa powder - any particular brand/type is the best? I don't really bake so don't know what's good or maybe it doesn't matter? Is no-name brand equal to ??
-
Hi Vivaroo, glad you like the Homemade Milo. So much cheaper and better for the kids (and you.
I think better quality cocoa powder does make a big difference taste wise. At the very least, go for Cadbury's instead of a no-name. If you're looking for better nutritional coco, this (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2010/02/raw-cacao-treat-balls.html) post has some info about the difference.
-
I use woolworths brand pure cocoa. Great value nothing added, and a very dark rich cocoa ;)
-
I made a small batch and I liked it, my son didn't first time (had a tantrum that I don't buy Milo anymore) but tried it again and likes it now. He knows to try things more than once. We call it Mum-o.
Thanks for the info on cocoa.
-
i just had to say i made this again today and it is delish.. i forgot how good it tasted and my kids loved it in a glass of milk. i had some raw cacao powder on hand and used rapadurra sugar and it just tastes great! i will just have to try not to eat it all on my own ...
-
this sounds like a good recipe
and if l put it in the milo tin my boys wont even know
but will have to wait as l have half a big tin left
this book sounds great l will borrow from library first before l buy it
-

I would make it and combine the two together so as to ween the kids off Milo and onto Tm Milo ;)
-
just checking that it is RAW cashews used in this recipe? thank you
-
Hi alwaysis, welcome to the forum with your first posting. I checked back through the comments and Quirky Jo mentions raw cashews so that confirms what I thought.
-
oh so yummy, and why would you introduce your kids to Milo if you didn't have to in the first place. Also just make up a batch of this for a good night kiss drink, or to make the slice - so good.
-
what slice what slice lol?????
-
AMAZING :o
Its homemade milo!!
-
Finally got around to making this today - YUMMO!!
Not quite the same in a glass of cold milk however great by the spoonful!
-
OMG! Like someone else here, Ive had my thermomix for about a year and seen this recipe several times but didn't think it could possibly work. Well I have just made my first batch (half a batch due to my lack of faith) and it is absolutely amazing!! WOW!! I would say it even 'dissolves' better than milo. I am in love! I don't know what the kids will think...they are irritatingly STILL carrying on about preferring things in packets (teenagers not as pliable as the five year old) so it will remain to be seen how this goes down. I have managed to get my 16 year old daughter having LSA on her yoghurt each morning so this might appeal to her. It most certainly appeals to me, thanks for the recipe!

This (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4169.0) one Kim.
-
I don't now if this helps anyone else but I made 'guy' version of this recipe. :) I used raw sugar instead of rapadurra though...
Linseed 40g
Sesame seeds 25g
Speed 9 approx 20 seconds
Sunflower seeds 20g
Almonds 75g
Brazil nuts 30g
Cashews 35g
Pecan nuts 30g
Pumpkin kernels (pepitas) 25g
Speed 9 approx 5-10 seconds
Raw sugar 220g
Cocoa 50g
Speed 7 approx 3 seconds
Done.
-
Just a bump.
Goes well in Creampuffs milo biscuits.
-

Thx jd didnt see this until now 😘

Made this today. Fab and thanks to all who have made it and made suggestions. I used the best Dutch Cocoa and Xylitol. Tested it in a mug of hot milk. I don't know what i did different but not gritty at all. i am now going to make CP's biscuits and Chelsea's nutty Milo Slice. Thanks a million.

Just finished our first batch in a THX milkshake, so have restocked the fridge with a freshest batch. Yum!
-
Made this for guests last night as they didn't want coffee. Loved it. DH fluffedit up in coffee machine.
-
I made this today - and I wasn't as happy with the result as I expected to be. Cindy O'Meara has put a version of this on her website if anyone's interested ....... some quantities are same, but she's using rapadura and cacao wafers !

Made this today and I like it! Made it as a warm drink first, it tasted nice but was a big gritty. Then I 'cleaned' the bowl (leaving some milo in) with milk for a yummy cold drink. miss c loved it (she's never had a 'chocolate' milkshake before. Will be trying it in the slice next :-)

This "Milo" is great. I often have it for breakfast.
I prefer it in cold milk rather than warm.

Sounds intriguing. DS14 is addicted to Milo. He uses it to mask the taste of milk ;D
The list of ingredients is a bit intimidating though. Where are the best places to source for the ingredients?

BZB, some of the ingredients are available in supermarkets or health food shops and a visit to your local nut shop would be the way to go for buying the small quantity of nuts for your first batch of milo. Looking at the list of ingredients you should have no trouble sourcing everything at one of your bigger shopping centres.

Made this yesterday and I think it will be a great breakfast for me and healthy snack for DD. I think it tastes very much like Aktavite more than Milo but is still super yum :)
