I genuinely believe that you will have a blast with it. They are excellent bits of kit.

Good Evening / Morning Everyone,

I thought that I would post this here (best place I could find).

So, after some culinary oversight from her over the years it would appear as though the master is now the student........yep Rotorchefs mum has decided to join the Thermomix culinary revolution.

So, taking into consideration the thread title can anyone in the UK advise of any distributors who are interested in either parting ways with a trusty TM31 or maybe even convincing my mum to part with her hard earned ££££££ for a new TM5.

Now, I will take this opportunity to advise any potential demonstrators that 1) This lady can cook! She knows here stuff.........but she is really a pushover. 2) Her home isn't actually her house - it belongs to our most adorable dog who is a big lad but incredibly well trained. He is good enough to let us share his space and will probably like you if you are a good demonstrator....ie he likes your food!

So - any recommendations / suggestions / guidance is very gratefully received.

I trust everyone is well (apologies for being absent - I am busy trying to get a new career going).

Taaaaddddaaaaaaa..........Yep he's back!

After an enforced absence mainly due to study, marriage, workload (yep got a job) and general tardiness I thought I had better make an appearance on this most helpful of forums.

Can I just say in my defence that whilst I haven't been posting I have been a prolific 'lurker'. I still find this forum a source of huge direction, help and more often than not inspiration as to "what are we doing for dinner tonight"

Well, where to start?

The wife and I have managed to see out our first year of wedded bliss, no seriously it has been FANTASTIC. I really am the 'lucky one'. She is quite literally the best thing to have happened to me  ;D. Neither of us can believe that our first year has come and gone with such speed. I guess it is very true that "Time waits for no man" or should that be person in this PC world? Either way you get the point.

We have been lucky in so far as I have managed to get employment in my chosen new career - no it isn't as well paid as what I could earn if I chose to don a suit and return to the city but then I wouldn't be able to play in helicopters in the most amazing part of SE Queensland - STUNNING part of the world! All said and done, we aren't doing it so tough if honest. We have a great place in a really convenient and central part of Brissy (next to the Storey Bridge) and we have a Thermomix so all things considered.....WINNING!

We have had multiple visits from friends and family. I am convinced that they come up for the weather and the great meals that the wife and I concoct from the TMX / BBQ or a combination of both - well, there are always empty plates and practically nothing left over for me to take to work the next day so it can't be that bad........right? In fact, we have been visited most recently by both sides of the family. Mine have literally just returned to the UK and we were lucky enough to have MiL up at the same time. I am incredibly lucky as I actually get on with and indeed like my MiL (rather fond of actually!!!) and it would appear as though she doesn't mind me either (pheeeewwww!!) We had a fantastic Anzac weekend whereby I managed to drag the entire tribe out to dawn service ahead of me marching through the city. I have to say you guys and girls (Aussies) certainly do Anzac day very (VERY!!!!!) well. I must admit I think it gets a better attendance / turn out than Remembrance Day (not easy for me to admit!  :-[ ).

Anyway, I digress. I guess I should post pictures like I promised.....all that time ago.

For those interested, we were incredibly fortunate in so far as MiL has a house on the NSW S Coast and we got married there. When I say it is on the beach I do mean it is on the beach......with the exception of some grass, a few trees and the obligatory sand there is NOTHING else. Very Very lucky indeed (for us).

Lemon & asparagus Couscous salad

OK so this gastronomic delight came from another website so I can take ZERO credit for it unfortunately  :o what I can do however is share it and extoll its virtues!

I have included the calorific attributes too as I know that some people like to count these sorts of things. They don't however include the Salmon steak that I selected to accompany this delight  :P.

Ingredients:

    250grams whole wheat pearl couscous
    3/4 lb thin asparagus spears, tough ends trimmed
    1 1/2 cups tomatoes, quartered
    1/4 cup red onion, minced
    1lemon, juiced (and use the zest too!)
    1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
    2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
    Salt, to taste
    Fresh Cracked / Ground Black pepper, to taste.

I didn't use the Thermomix for this as I was slightly pushed for time (and ashamedly didn't have time to work it all out) so......

Couscous was added to some EVOO in a heavy pan that was hot. Keep it moving then add 2.5 cups of boiling water then cook as per normal couscous cooking process.

As for everything else - erm well its a basic salad really.

The Salmon fillet was poached as per normal with the asparagus being added towards the end with sufficient time for that too be just the correct side of 'snappy'.

Pictures have been added which contain the salad on its own and then with the Salmon fillet flaked (more like attacked with a spoon & fork).

If you choose to make it, I hope you enjoy it as much as we (yep......MrsRC was there too) did.

Meal Values (if this helps);

Servings: 5 • Size: little over 1 cup • Old Points: 3 • Weight Watcher Points+: 4 pt
Calories: 170 • Fat: 4 g • Carb: 30 g • Fiber: 5 g • Protein: 6.3 g • Sugar: 0.0 g
Sodium: 10 mg (without the salt) • Cholest: 0 mg

Gert, enjoy your new toy.  Tell me, why do most people buy an iPad when the Samsung tablet is so much cheaper.  Does one do so much more than the other?

Hey Judydawn,

After owning both and sadly lots of both I see the pro's and cons of both. If you already have an Apple setup, ie iMac (of any sort), iPhone/ iPod/iPad and have lots of things on iTunes etc and cant or aren't interested in breaking from that formula then I would stick with Apple products. In doing so you are also (unfortunately) resigning yourself to paying incredibly over inflated prices which quite frankly are not commensurate with the quality of the product. That said, Apple do have (for the most part) a strong after sales service.

The other side of the equation is Android (lets use Samsung as an example).

They are considerably cheaper and have a considerably quicker product turnover. This is good and bad. Good in so much as they update and progress their technologies quickly. Great for a geek like me and bad for a too if you have magpie tendencies (like me) and like shiny new kit.

Android is considerably more 'open' in how it deals with media (music, pictures, films etc) thus the consumer isn't dictated to by a single company (Apple in this case) by forcing everything through iTunes.

For those technical individuals out there I am well aware that Apple products etc can be 'set free' (Jailbroken) etc but I have chose to answer Judy on a level playing field basis.

In short (if I can still claim that), its totally down to the individual but do your homework and don't buy into anybody's hype regards their product and how much better it is over the competition. For me I am very much an Apple computer person (who chooses to run Windows via a virtual machine when I need Windows), and ANDROID for everything else. That includes my telephone and multiple (ashamedly) tablet devices.

Hahahahah Hello Gert  ;D

I will get a couple of shots up when they come back from the photographer - needless to say MrsRC looked stunning! As for a honeymoon. Two weeks in the UK and then another 11 days down on the NSW South Coast sort of did for the Mrs leave entitlement. We are saving up (leave wise) to go to Vietnam later in the year. In the meantime however we are looking at weekend breaks etc and just generally enjoying our time.

Hey everyone,

For what it is worth;

The original iPad (yep all those tablet years ago....! (2010)) will probably be showing its age now in terms of battery life. I owned one but got incredibly annoyed when Apple stopped supporting it with new iOS upgrades after only 18months! One of the best ways to ensure that your battery is giving you maximum charge is to ensure things like bluetooth, wifi, and data connections (3G) are only switched on when you are actually using them and need them. The other big drain on battery is what Apple refer to a 'location services' - this basically allows the internal GPS to share your location with lots of other applications for exactly that 'location based services'. Great for navigation and things and also pretty good for shopping deals etc but a bit heavy on the battery.

Gert is 100% correct about clearing things down from the 'active apps'. I found the best way to do this was to literally restart the whole thing every night. That also acts as a bit of a force for things to update too.

As I may have mentioned before once or twice. If you can make the transition from Apple to Android there are some other VERY good options out there for the tablet users. Some of the new tablets from other manufacturers have screens that are better than that of the apple even the retina ones.

Netflix - I personally think SUITS is fantastic! We don't watch TV but the Mrs didn't thank me one bit for getting her hooked on SUITS.

Meganjane - you may well have saved my proverbial bacon! If the good wife had seen that she would certainly pay out on me for a while! Naturally it was 08/04/15.

As for those of you who are awaiting the announcement of tiny feet - sorry but that isn't going to happen. I am very much in the vein of "awesome uncle". I love kids but I love giving them back to their rightful owners and keepers even more (normally after I have wound them up to feral status  :P)

Well hello one and all,

It's been a while since I last posted and much has been going on! Which is actually the reason why I stopped posting much of anything!

Since my last post which if memory serves correctly was back in January 2015 after stepping off of a plane and onto what felt like a frozen tundra it has been nonstop!

As some of you know there was a very significant other in my life for whom I actually purchased the Thermomix in the first place (well, she thinks that's the case anyway  :-))) who went by the forum name of MrsRC2B. Well, alas she is no more. Yep, that is the end of that relationship and indeed name. She has as of 8/4/15 become MrsRC!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

After lots of planning, calling, emailing, and fretting our wedding went off about as smoothly as anybody could hope for with the exception of the weather but then what can one expect when they book a beach wedding on the NSW South Coast in April. Last minute plans enacted without panic or fluster ensured that the whole day indeed couple of days went off very very well. The catering company were exceptional (I wont name drop on this forum but if you are interested or in need of catering in the NSW South Coast region  let me know and I will share - you wont be disappointed!)

I have been separated from the culinary machine of awesomeness for a while as I have been back in the UK however last night saw a successful(ish) reintroduction if only for me trying to remember what the heck I was doing!

Ultimately however the Thai mussels were a success and the wife (great sounding word!) has another kg of them to eat tonight otherwise they will go to waste.

I wasn't really sure what to do with them or indeed how to 'do with them' in the Thermie so sort of fumbled my way through and made a complete pigs ear of sequencing and adding ingredients etc. So if anyone was curious as to what or indeed how I made dinner last night you are out of luck as I have NO IDEA. The good news and indeed bad news however is the Mrs is seemingly expecting something of equal quality tonight - GOOD LUCK!

Right - I should get on with some study (only 1 more topic and 2 exams to go and I will have my Commercial Pilots exams complete in what has been a busy 6 months then I can start flying again), assuming of course I ever get my visa for migration................  :-\

Oh - Great work on the new look / feel forum by the way (whoever was responsible). I think it looks incredibly 'fresh' and very slick. It may take a bit of getting used to but I for 1 think its great.

OMFG......(excuse the poor French) but who turned down the thermostat?

I seemingly acclimatised very well to the Brisbane weather as it is a bit Brass Monkeys in Windsor (staying at my parents flat overnight). That could well be fatigue playing its part too.

Landed, bags collected and about to take the mad hound (Rhodesian Ridgeback) out for a walk.

Wont be too long before bed for me though me thinks.

I love airports too, and on the whole I thoroughly enjoy every experience however I was being somewhat mardy last night. And to top things off...... I have left the thermi with MrsRC2B.... Oh dear lord what will I do.

Does anyone else find airports a completely polarising experience. They are either exciting and fun filled or downright depressing. On my way back home to good old blighty but leaving the MrsRC2B  behind. For the avoidance of doubt I'm finding the airport somewhat depressing at the moment.

To all those shivering thermie owners in the UK.... I would love to bring some Queensland sunshine back with me but it's raining currently - sorry!

MrsRC2Bs birthday today so it's been a day off spoiling her. Went out to a friend's for a quick coffee such that we could invite them to the impending wedding, then out for a lovely lunch.  Back for an afternoon of relaxation and spookily enough another bottle of vino :P (hic).

Back to the UK tomorrow night for a little while though so best we make the most of things. Have a great night everyone.

Rib eye fillet (very rare), massive Australian prawns cooked off in butter and masses of garlic &  mushrooms alongside EDC coleslaw. Oh yeah..... An easy surf and turf. MrsRC2B (the carnivore) didn't say a word all meal but the steak didn't seem to touch the sides 8)
