Title: Greek Style Sausages in Tomato Sauce (Soutzoukakia) Devil of a Cookbook
Post by: Rara1 on September 12, 2012, 02:29:24 pm
Made this tonight for my husband and kids.
It was a huge hit!
Served with rice and salad.

The changes I made:
- used mince
- fried the onions and garlic for the meatballs for 3 min, varoma temp, speed 2
- used dried herbs (because that's all I had) and forgot to put in the mint
- used pankro breadcrumbs (that's all I had)

for the sauce
- fried onions and garlic for 3 min, varoma temp, speed 2
- cooked the wine for 2 min, varoma temp, speed 2
- used dried herbs
- blitzed the chunky tomatoes (only because Ellie doesn't like the chunk)
- did not add sugar
- cooked the sauce on speed 2 not on reverse.

It made heaps.

My family rated this 5/5
I (the vego) rated this 5/5 for simplicity.
Will definitely make this again.

Rara x

Glad to read about your family's experience, Rara.  I have only made this recipe once but it was a while ago and don't recall changing anything myself.  We enjoyed it.

Hi Cecilia
I don't think the recipe needs changing either.
Most of it was because "that's all I had" :)
I like to cook my onions until soft even pre thermomix - that's just personal preference

Just had a look, it seems nice, could you use mince instead of beef as you are turboing anyway? Just wondered as I have mince.

Thanks

H :)

I made this the other night and it was very popular in our house.

I also used pre-minced beef and dried herbs and it was fine.  The only thing I changed was that I halved the amount of herbs (because they were dried).  I also just used three tablespoons of Campbell's vegetable stock because I didn't have any stock concentrate.

I made them into meatballs rather than sausages and they were done after 20 minutes.  I cooked some fettuccine on the stove top and served the meatballs and sauce over it.

A really nice recipe that made enough to feed six in our house.

5/5

Yes, made this last night and will be having the rest for tonight - there is only two of us. So delicious, I used fresh oregano, but mint and thyme from the stuff in tubes. I made small meatballs instead of sausage shapes, and served with mached potatoes and beans. Will definitely be making again!
