Walked into MIL's kitchen today just as she was putting finishing touches to one of these. Got very excited until she told me it was to take to her stepdaughter's place this evening 😞
Never mind, we got Xmas pudding & trifle for our lunch - love her trifle.

A master piece Maddy.

Thank you  :D

I actually made the sponge at 10pm Christmas Eve, and after I rolled it up to cool, I fell asleep on the couch....and woke up at 3.30am  :o :o
I quickly iced it and popped it in the fridge....then realised not 1 Christmas present had been wrapped!
So bleary eyed, I made the meringue mushrooms when the kids woke up.

Superb Maddy.  What did it taste like?  :)

The icing was a mousse like choc buttercream, and the sponge without additions, was just like a sponge.
It was a simple dessert, which was good after a heavy Christmas lunch.
If you were wanting more punch, definitely add flavour additions as listed in recipe, or maybe go for a Black Forest roll, if you were wanting something a little richer.
