Persian Beef and Lime Stew from MOTM
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:28:51 am »
Dinner - Persian Beef and Lime Stew from MOTM (in the soup section! I had this on my list for weeks and then went to cook it and took me forever to find the recipe).

This was a 5/5 from all of us. dd3 in particular had 2nds and scraped her plate clean.
I didn't have the lemon peel so used lime zest.
dd2 and I don't like mint so use basil and parsley (also cooked with some as missed the set aside bit, lol).
Used green lentils instead of the split yellow peas.
I also added some new potatoes. And some green capsicum for the last 6 mins.

This had a really lovely flavour and despite it being such a hot day and thinking this was a bad idea with the lime it was great.

So is it more of a stew than a soup Zan?

Yep def a stew not a soup at all.
Think the recipe calls for 600g of beef?? (we did 400)
I added potatoes as I felt like them, lol, but weren't necessary and some capsicum for veg but it was a very filling meal not a soup.
Even titled stew which is why I didn't think to look in soups. I'd gone through all my books, then searched on here - finally second search it came up in the MOTM contents thread, went back to the book (still looking in mains), lol, finally found it!

Am hoping dh gets home too late to try it so dd3 and I can have the leftovers for lunch tomorrow, lol.

Thanks Zan for such an informative review - you are all lifesavers!  I find during the school term I am so busy, I depend on the reviews for recipes to avoid any hicciups, a disaster with a thermie dish is not something to face after a full 'enjoyable ' day with students.  Thank you all  :) :)  :)

Not a soup at all.
