Harira (with photo) - Moroccan soup from Meat on the Menu
« on: June 05, 2010, 03:50:07 am »
Recipe Name:  Harira
Book Name:  Meat on the Menu
Tweaking details:  Left out egg at the end
Review:  This soup is very easy to make and really tasty.  I loved it.  Note there seems to be a mistake in the recipe (or perhaps I have misread) in that the first step is to put the saffron in boiling water but then the saffron isn't mentioned again (unless it is meant to be a 'seasoning' and goes in with other seasonings?).
Score: (out of 5*) 5

I made this this week as well and it is very Yummy (I did add the egg too). Yes there is a mistake in not mentioning when to add the saffron and also it mentions adding the chick peas at two different stages, I asssume that one of those maybe should have been the saffron.

Have just looked up a few Harira recipes and have come to this conclusion from Taste.com.au - the saffron and its liquid get added where it first says add the chickpeas (this is in the 5th step) and the chickpeas themselves don't get added until the last couple of minutes.  Most recipes I found used dried chickpeas but ours uses canned chickpeas and they only need to be heated through, not cooked.
Has anyone checked with Tenina to clarify this.

Thanks for the review. It is funny how I put recipes together and go thru time & time again and then somebody instantly finds a mistake when it is published.  :-)) :-)) :-))

I didn't realise that was one of your recipes Thermomixer - certainly not mentioned in the book.
We have some very sharp people on this forum and if a mistake is made, someone will pick it up  :D :D :D :D

Regardless of the mistakes which aren't major it is a very tasty soup.  it will be  a regular winter soup for me.
