Recipe review - Chinese style stir fry vegies EDC
« on: April 13, 2010, 11:52:01 am »
Did this tonight to go with Thermomixer's soy sauce chicken in the varoma - a perfect accompaniment.  Used what I had in the fridge - carrot, cabbage, baby sweetcorn, zucchini, snow peas and added 1Tblspn honey and 1Tblspn soy sauce which ILB suggested a while back (instead of the oyster sauce and salt). Followed the recipe to a T apart from that change. Probably only serves 3 at the most.  Very nice 5/5.

Thanks for the review - I recall that Rick posted about this when he first started his blog - looks like he's too busy now.

I'll post a link for those who don't have the EDC book.

Judy, I agree these are nice. The person who first put us onto TMX mentioned how nice they were.

Add a red chilli (seeds removed for less heat) with the garlic and ginger and you have the holy trinity of Chinese Cooking - delicious!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

5/5 from us. Yum Yum Yum The vegies were so bright in colour and crunchy mmmmm. didn't add the chilli because of the kids and there was chilli in the satay sauce.

It is really hard to find an oyster sauce that doesn't have really terrible additives and preservatives in it. I chose the lesser of the evils. If anyone knows of an oyster sauce brand that is ok I would love to know about it. I will try it with honey and soy combo next time.

We had this with the chicken satay recipe from the fast and easy UK book and some rice - well received by all  ;D

Yum, thanks for this review. I have never attempted it as I don't see how it can work, but I will now.

Thanks JD will check it out  ;D

One thing I would do is add the mushrooms a little way in as they go quite soft and you could do it in a similar way to stirfry in a wok where you add hard vegies first through to softest. I actually meant to put cabbage in but forgot about it lol.

Have made this recipe quite a few times. We just use those frozen mixed vege packets straight from the freezer. It's a quick side dish and tastes good.
