Milk Loaf - Recipe Review TM5 Cookbook UK version
« on: October 28, 2014, 08:59:17 am »
This is a delicious loaf.  I made it with soya milk rather than regular milk and used 30g of sugar.  The butter and the sugar added an extra tasty dimension.  Very straightfoward to make, and I dont think i would make changes to the basic recipe so I'll definitely be going back to the recipe chip for this again and again!

Maybe one thing I would change is rise it a little longer than 30 mins for the second rising as it was just a little dense.  More than double it in size maybe for an hour.

I made this on Sunday for visitors fresh, it looked really good plaited, and it was excellent as toast the next day.  (only it didn't neatly fit into my toaster but anyway!)

I am looking forward to getting back and cooking.  This looks like a good one to start with. ( DH says make sure I say hi to my girls first!)

TM5 UK Review: Milk Loaf Page 236
Toasting a plait can be difficult in the toaster so I elected make a plain tin loaf. I couldn't resist tearing off a bit of dough to make a bun. My mum was a really good confectioner and she always made sure that there were "mis-shapes" for us 4 girls to enjoy. We loved these better than the main dish. My bun was a hot morsel to introduce the loaf. It was pleasant and tasty but it was a little dense and I had given it double rising time as suggested by "I love TM". The crust is not hard and crumbly so it slices well. I have to freeze mine because of living alone so I always freeze 4 slices to a packet which works quite well. I think I will do a milk loaf again using a different recipe to compare them before giving it 5 stars.

Your loaf looks great DD. My Mum always gave us little bits of dough, pastry etc to shape and cook for ourselves too.
I keep meaning to give this loaf a try, thanks for reminding me.
