Hi :)
« on: June 29, 2014, 05:22:59 am »
Hello :)

Some of you may know me from Taste but if you don't my name is Mem.

I'm from Central Coast NSW.

I'm curious about Thermomix thanks to JulieO's posts here and in past on Taste.

I have been trying to find info but not having much luck so thought I would ask here. How much do they cost and is it worth it in the end? I've been thinking about it but would rather know price before home demo etc.

Thanks
Mem

Hi Mem,

I am in NZ, so our price is different so will let someone closer to you give you the local story, but I have found it to be worthwhile.

It's a time saver, so I am able to prepare multiple batches of food in the time I might have previously spent prepping one thing, so we eat more from scratch which is a money saver. Today I have made bread, muffins, a cake and some crackers. Will also be used for dinner prep soon.

Our grocery bill has dropped by $50 per week, plus now my DH also takes lunch to work every day, which is another saving of at least $50 a week. We also have takeaways even less often than in the past.

I like the ease of use of the thermomix - press the buttons and leave it do do its thing while i can be doing something else. Eg every morning we get up and put on porridge to cook. While it's going, DH goes and has a shower and I put together the lunch boxes for the day. No need to check or stir or worry about it at all.

The other big thing that made it worthwhile for me is that it gave me a real boost in enthusiasm - daily cooking for the family was a big chore for me but now I (mostly) enjoy it again. It can still be a juggle with after school activities etc, but it is overall easier, and that's worth a lot to me!

In $$ savings, it would have paid for itself in 6 months.  It's a big outlay, but I would do it again without hesitation.

Hi Mem welcome to the forum. I believe the Thermomix is $1935 at the moment. there are others here that can give yu more info.

My only advice is this. If you love to cook or don't and can afford one and want one then get it. Not need for rationalisation or justifying it.

We all love ours.

Hi Mem. I was on Taste a lot until I bought my thermomix, now I am on here a lot. I was birdsam on taste and I do remember you. I have had my thermomix for years. Since I bought it we no longer buy bread, ice cream, jams, curry pastes, many sauces like sweet chilli sauce and heaps of other things I can't recall at the moment.
I love the thermomix because I now control every single thing that goes into our stomach. No more numbers or things we don't want.
I THINK the price of a new thermomix is about $1930. I'm not sure. However there is a rumour around that a new model MAY be being released in September of this year.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if mine died. It is so easy for custards, sauces risottos etc as the days of standing there stirring are gone. As Jo mentioned you can do other things until,it beeps incessantly to say your food is ready. I have just done a batch of small quiches in the thermomix. I will cook them in the oven of course.
Do you know anyone who has a machine you could visit? If you are in WA you are welcome to visit me. I'm in Perth.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Hi Mem, welcome to the forum.  You probably know a few members from Taste who are on here.   The TMX comes highly recommended from anyone on here  ;)

Welcome Mem, I have had my thermomix over 3 years now and love it.  My regret was that after seeing it I kept trying to justify the cost for about 18 months.  I haven't worried since we bought one as it is used many times everyday..  I would wait until after September though just in case there is a new model coming out.

Hi Mem.  Welcome to the Forum.  I too had trouble justifying the cost of my Thermomix which I have had for over 2 years now.  I loved it so much that I bought one for my son and daughter in law when they had their first baby.  Now we all love it for different reasons.  I make all our bread, joghurt, biscuits, scones and cakes.  Quite apart from preparing and cooking meals.  My partner is insulin dependant diabetic and my daughter in law gluten free so we each use it for different types of cooking.  My Grandson who is now 18 months old is very thankful for all the great meals that are prepared for him and does love to watch and help when he is allowed.  Now I don't think about justifying = I love it too much.
You haven't failed at anything until you stop trying.

Welcome Mem.
I've had mine a year and like Bedlam initially tried to justify the cost. For us it is worth it especially with my DH being on a specialised diet. It's expanded my cooking horizon & we have eliminated a lot of processed sugar and foods from our diet which is great. I use it nearly every day and love it how I can either cook a whole meal in it or help me to make a component/part of a meal.

Welcome to the forum Mem.  I wholly agree with Jo from NZ about the time it saves.  It really is like having another pair of hands in the kitchen.  If you do get one then the people on this forum are wonderful  with the information and help   they can offer.  The recipes on here are tried and there is something for everyones taste.  Have a demo and see for yourself what it can do.  I went to three demo's before I brought mine and my Husband just went to one and he was sold!!!!

A lot of people interested in TM always want to know if itts really worth the money. My Indian feast cost approx $37, (2.8kgs of meat used) I made enough for around 10 servings, this also included the naan bread. I have frozen the rest for another meal & then left overs. Take away or eating in, one sitting alone for 3-4 people would be around $100 & probably no left overs. I read Jamberies post she cooked an Indian feast a while back, but spent over $20 just odering the naan. We dont have take aways, but if you bought 2 a month, thats the price of a TM.
