Marshmallows too sticky
« on: June 09, 2014, 07:13:36 pm »
Help.

I made marshmallows using Janine Smiths recipe from the. Thermomix Australia recipe community (below) but they have come out really sticky. Does anyone have any tips to make them less sticky or an alternative recipe I can try? I want to use them to make fondant icing and I am wondering if they need to be  less sticky or whether I can use them as is, does anyone know?

Many thanks

TM I have never made marshmallows in the thermomix. Sorry I can't help you.
However I am curious as to how you use them to make fondant icing.

Not sure if this would help at all.

Hi Cookie1

Here is the recipe.

http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/desserts-sweets-recipes/marshmallow-fondant/39528

I haven't tried this recipe as I am trying to make the marshmallows first however if I can't get the marshmallows right I may have to buy them which I don't really want to do but I may get a better result.

I have tried making fondant icing with lots of things but always find that they come out with a slight yellow tinge and i need pure white icing for a cake that I am making for my sons 1st birthday (I crazily vowed whilst in the labour room to make all of his birthday cakes until he told me he didn't want a homemade one anymore. I think it was the endorphins and adrenaline that fuelled it but it was one of the promises I made to him just after he was born and handed to me!)

I was looking a Tenina's recipe TM, she says to definitely not use home made marshmallow for her recipe.  Have you seen her recipe?

Wow thanks judydawn that's the quickest and easiest recipe I have seen and means I now have a legitimate reason not to make my own marshmallows!

It does mean that I do have to buy quite a few bags of pink and white marshmallows and pick out all of the white ones, for some reason we can only buy the mixed bags out here.

I will give it a go and let you know how it turns out.

Thanks again

Glad it was of some help TM, perhaps you could give the pink marshmallows to someone who has a daughter and would like to make her a birthday cake too.  I eagerly await a photograph of this special birthday cake.

I've made the fondant and it's looking really good. The recipe was so easy and it tastes lovely.

When I make the cake, I will post a picture.
