The use of ice to restore the blades has never made sense to me but that was what I was told when I bought my Thermo! My blades have gone very dark but still work.
I am really careful to under load rather than over load after reading other forum users experiences.

My original blades  have gone dark too. I think it was the first time I made a tomato sauce . No matter my second set are pristine. Makes no difference. I have seen others with dark blades. No doubt a chemical change of some sort.

CC you have a clever DH.
I have purchased a new blade and amazed buy how much quicker and how even it chops, especially onion.  Certainly worth sharpening I would think.

Bedlam I gave my old blades a bit of a sharpen last night still have to fine hone them I think it is the go, after all we sharpen our knives all the time so if this works I'm going to sharpen mine every six months or so before they get to blunt.

Im afraid i needed to replace as they did the spin and make horrible noise thingy.  I need to be more careful when grating cheese i think.
Glad you have had success with sharpening.

I sort of thinking that if the blades are sharp then they won't have to work hard and you hopefully won't end up with the blade mechanism stripped .

I think my blades are starting to dull so will be interested to see how things go.

I bought the thermomix because the smoothies came out much smoother than in the vitamix.  But I have noticed a huge difference in the texture of my green smoothies in the past couple of months.  They now have more chunky green bits in them and are harder to swallow.  Do they replace the blades within the 12 months if they become dull.  I compared them to a new machine and there is definitely a difference.
