Has anyone had their blades sharpened
« on: May 08, 2014, 02:34:06 am »
I have just received my new blades and am wondering if anyone has had their blades sharpened I'm really tempted to have a go with the blunt ones as they aren't much use when they won't even cut up cabbage for coleslaw.

The only thing I can think of would be to take them to a professional knife sharpening person and see what they say . . .  :)

They are supposed to be Soligen steel which some of the best knives are made off , they get sharpened all the time so the blades should be able too as well I'm thinking, it will be good if they can although the powers that be won't recommend it they won't be able to sell more blades.

AB,  are you sure it is your blades that are blunt,  and not the  mechanical bit that turns the blades?  Mine have had tough love for 4 years and used several times a day.  I recently had to replace the blade and the black bit attached to it.  I think making hundreds of loaves of bread did mine in.  Not complaining.

Mine are five years old and as good as new. I do have a spare jug set but sort of keep it for best and use it when necessary. The seal has been replaced but it did not really need it . The thing that works hardest but lasted 5 years until I bounced it just one time too many and that is the measuring cup! Of course the mother board was replaced when the cockroaches ate it but not really a fault of the machine.

It really is an amazing  machine and well worth the money. I think it works harder than my washing machine! I doubt I could live without it. May have to sneak it into the nursing home!

My DH sharpened my original blades recently. He took several photos before he started then did one blade at a time then took more photos to see the result. They seem to be working better.

Thanks for the feed back girls, I have two bowls and only set of blades is blunt, I use my machine about three times a day, to day it was juice, porridge, pesto, steamed potatoes, onions pumpkin and broccoli as well as a piece of roast beef, which unfortunately is a little tough , I will have to reinvent it into something else tomorrow. Also made the magic bean cake and some custard so it had a good workout today.,  I think I will give them a go if it doesn't work then I might ask the local butcher to have a go or give them to whoever sharpens his knives.  Thanks CC glad someone has tried it and it works.

I thought if you wizz up some ice cubes or make a sorbet it returned the blades to sharp!

Yes, I think it may have been a little fib.

AB I would definitely give it a go.
