I make a chutney that tastes just like Rosella. I have to make things that taste like the bought ones, or DH won't eat them! I make double quantity as we go through chutney like water. Here's a smaller quantity that would be fine to make in the TMX.

TASTY CHUTNEY

500g apples (or apples and pears)
500g tomatoes
500g onions
150g brown sugar
20g treacle
2 tsp whole pepper
120g sultanas
30g currants
250ml brown malt vinegar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp allspice
1 1/2 tsp dry mustard powder
1 1/2 tsp whole cloves

Place everything in TMX bowl and cook on Varoma,  :-: speed 2 - 3 for 1.5 hours. I haven't made it in TMX, so am just guessing!!

Edited to change the quantities. No, I don't cook it in a silo with a large fire underneath it!! :D

A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Thanks MJ, that's the exact one I buy.  I have all those ingredients most of the time so would be so easy to whip up a batch. Thanks for posting it. :-* :-* :-* :-*

So, I will make mince meat curry next week
I let you know when I make them  ;)

MJ possibly makes this in a silo with a fire under it!

Thanks for the recipe. We need things in this household to taste like bought ones too as DH won't try them.

I made the tasty chutney today!!!
How did it come? Well... as it is supposed to, I guess  :-))
I've never had chutney before so I don't have anything, any standard at all, to compare with
It seemed good to me  :D

I made tasty chutney recipe of MJ. Half amount!
I didn't have few ingredients so I improvised a bit
I hope I didn't do something wrong cos this is so foreign to me!   ;)

Thank you again for helping me out
I can finally try mince meat curry next week!
You need to tell me some more recipes though, where I can use my chutney
I have a full jar now!  :D

I made it as below...

250g onion
250g apple
250g tomatoes
75g sugar
15g grape molasses
1 tsp whole pepper
60g raisins
15g currants
120g cider vinegar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp curry
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cloves

Place quartered onions in TM bowl. Chop for 4 seconds on Speed 6
Peel apples, chop roughly, place in TM bowl
Cut the core out on the top of the tomatoes with a knife, remove the seeds, place in TM bowl
Chop speeding up from 2 to 5 for 2 seconds. Repeat for 3-4 times
Add all the rest of the ingredients. Cook for 1,5 hour at 100°C on Reverse/Speed 1

Looks perfect farfallina. My DH loves chutney in a sandwich with any type of cold meat & salad.

Excellent result farfallina, just like Rosella fruit chutney as MJ said.  Thanks MJ for providing us with this great recipe.

Uses for chutney - add a tablespoon to any curry or serve with cold meat or on sandwiches as VHJ suggested.

Chutney chicken recipe - 2 chicken breasts, 2 tblspns chutney, 2 tblspns french mustard, 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese Mix the mustard with the chutney and cover the chicken breasts.  Place the breasts in a baking dish lined with baking paper, cover with the grated cheese and bake 15-20 minutes at 180o.  This recipe is from 4 Ingredients but has been around long before those books were published - an oldie but a goldie.   I only use 1 tablespoon of mustard and chutney when I make it.

Can one of the moderators please transfer farfallina's chutney conversion to the chutney thread so that others can find it easily in the future.  :-* :-* :-*
