I've put the half with the pit in, in a glass container with onion.  Will see how it goes over a few days.  :)

I'm the only person who likes avocados so I tend to eat the entire one during the day. Some with salad at lunch and the rest with dressing at dinner. I just press glad wrap onto the cut surface. It is only for a few hours.
Are they expensive everywhere else? They are a reasonable price here at the moment, but not cheap. I bought one yesterday for $1.70.

I wet paper towel and leaving the stone  in the half just cover it with the wet paper and pop it into one of those plastic avacado  thingys.

Aldi have started building their warehouse here. Maybe next year for a shop or two.

Any comments yet on the various options you experimented with?

After putting my avo in the fridge on top of the onions, I forgot all about it for about a week  :-[

When I opened up the container, it was slightly brown on top, but only the very top layer which I scraped off.  Underneath it was really good and hadn't gone the least bit slimy or unpalatable. Obviously the onion had absorbed any condensation and kept it dryer than if it was in a container alone.  :)

That's interesting.  So if it is a case of absorbing condensation, do you think that, perhaps, a paper towel would be as effective as an onion?

I always leave the stone in, wet some paper towel, scrunch it on top of  a half an avocado and it will stay fine for a few days.

I don't bother to put it into a container most times.

I have an avocado in the fridge at the moment using the onion idea.  It's been there for a couple of days now and no sign of any brown on it yet.

Why not try it Cuilidh and report back (if I don't get round to it first).  :D

If I am organised enough this week I definitely will, Julie ... will have to get my hands on an appropraite container first, though!  Actually, I might get two containers and try the onion and kitchen paper experiments side by side with the same avocado - except I will only have one pip, so that may leave things a bit 'uneven'. :-\
