Title: I know I shouldn't say this but I am going to anyway....
Post by: zebraa on December 06, 2013, 12:36:58 am
A FB group suggestion came up on my page to join 'Bellini Addicts' so I thought I would to get some recipes. Had to stop reading as I was smirking too much. Every post was about how to avoid the motor burning out (when making sorbets!!!!!!!), how to fix things or how long to blend things (5 mins for something that takes my TMX 20 secs!).

And the dig at the fact that only people who have a TMX are rich (we are low income, have a HCC and thank goodness for the TMX otherwise we wouldn't be able to afford to eat decent food).

Anyway, I am going to get off the group, but I would recommend anyone deciding which one to buy to go an check it out.........

It's sad for those that bought the Bellini machine. It is also nice to have our choice of machine verified. We had just retired when I bought my machine and I felt guilty until I had it for about 3 weeks. I think I have paid for it in just the savings I make on baking our own bread. The sad thing is , now we dislike bought bread, even the expensive stuff.
There isn't a day goes by that I don't say thanks to my thermomix. For the cooking it makes so easy, for this forum and for the friends I have made all over the world.

I get sick of reading how TM owners are so "defensive" about their machines. I feel that for the most part people who think they are too expensive cant justify why people are prepared to spend that much in the first place, and most likely haven't seen them in action.

Only cooks can understand why we don't think $2000 is too much to spend on a machine, how many buy new TV's without batting an eyelid and if they buy takeaway, imagine how much they could save with a TMX.  You are always going to hear negativity from those who just don't get it or have never even seen a demo.

I say the same thing Judy our tv cost more than the tmx and it doesn't do anything close to what the tm does this is how I justify it to people not that I should have to ::)

Just the savings in take aways alone makes it worth while. We dont do take away, probably because we always have so much ready to eat healthy food on hand.

I agree with you all and our TV cost more than my beloved TMX ... all it does is encourage the family to sit on their big butts and get bigger butts, unfit and unhealthy!!

Going before I get into a full on rant  :P :P

Its all about priorities...I'm constantly getting rude comments from acquaintances about my expenditure on tea...and the people who are usually the rudest about it are those who don't think twice about spending $20++++ dollars on a bottle of wine or alcohol and yet my tea costs just over 1/2 of that and is a hell of a lot healthier for me.
I own three of the induction machines that are on the market and thought for a while about getting a bellini when they were cheap to use to make soap.   Each of my three machines has a favourite purpose that I use it for...and I wouldn't look down on anyone for not wanting to buy any one of the three.  I love my thermomix, love my kenwood cooking chef and like my thermochef.  I would go out tomorrow and replace the thermomix if it broke, the kenwood I'd have to decide whether to replace or to go back to a commercial kitchenaid but that is mainly because I can get the kitchenaids at the right price and the thermochef I probably wouldn't replace but that is because it is an adequate machine not a great machine and I'm still waiting on one of our suppliers to get their act together and release their machine (which I REALLY want) onto the Australian market.

Too funny. I have seen many blogs and forums demonising Thermomix owners. Just makes me laugh and one persistent  boorish past member here still slags us every chance he gets on several forums using  different names. His beef is the way it is sold and he could not get his own way to just buy it off the shelf. He finally bought another machine but the only thing he ever seems to make is custard and has even broken his butterfly doing it!  He mentions me every chance he gets as a witch. Sends me Into  hysterics. Best to let them get on with it. If it works for them all good. I am sure there will be a few under the tree this year.

I started my thermo cooking experience with a Bellini and I joined the addicts page 6 mths ago to learn all about it.  Membership has skyrocketed in that time, and I have made some lovely friends through the page. Quite a few of us have seen the light and now are TMX owners, we do keep a low profile now as we have found any mention of thermomix does create a bit of a cat fight. I still cannot understand the jealousy, envy and general bitchiness that surrounds thermomix, after all, it is my choice, after lengthy research, to spend my $$ on what I want. We are also low income (recently retired) also HCC but I wanted a machine that would last a lifetime.  The Bellini certainly wasn't going to do that.

Chris.

Your comments are appreciated spikesmum, you certainly think like a TMX owner.  Without your Bellini experience though, you may never have become a TMX owner so it worked out well for you to use that as a stepping stone.

We all have to live within our budgets. If the Bellini is your dollar limit and you enjoy cooking with it then all is good.

Have what you want and want what you have.  :D

I'm also another that is an ex Bellini owner. If this product wasn't available at such an affordable level. I would never have bought a TMX. I was very sceptical as I loved to cook and was worried it would take the joy of cooking away for me. The Bellini allowed me to test the waters.

Like any group the Bellini addicts has its share of bitching. I never get involved. But there are on the other hand a lot of lovely people and whilst it started as Bellini owners there are a lot of different thermo owners including HMP.

I am a guilty ex-thermochef owner. Hated the bloody thing. Everything burned and stuck. Couldn't get rid of it quick enough!
I'm so glad hubby was able to see the light.

If it's all they can afford, I'd honestly say to just cook manually. That's how much I hated it.

We don't have Aldi in SA either.
McMich, I agree with you.  Two years ago I wasn't in a position to justify spending so much money on a Thermomix, especially as I didn't know anyone with one and didn't know how much use I would get from it. I bought a Thermochef instead and have been happy with my decision. I have made lots of great food for my family and friends in the two years that I've had my machine, and as a bonus, have made some new friends here on the forum.

I haven't had one but that is the impression I get. From the forum, no one seems to know how to use their machine and it all seems so HARD. And it doesn't seem to do much - can't steam and cook. doesn't weigh, need to change blades for stuff. I think if I had one of them I would never have got a TMX as I would've thought it was all a waste of time. Still plenty do, so........

I'm interested to hear the reviews of the Aldi one. I looked at the youtube clip and I don't think it would be as good as the TMX, but I really hope it is better than many of the others out there so that more and more people are cooking with thermo cookers. The more people that use thermo cookers, the more books and the more members here :)

I bought the Kuchef. Why? Because I used to own a Thermomix by association (it's Mum's, and then I moved out of home) and I really miss it, and because I am poor. There's low income, and then there's poor (I have health issues that stop me from working more than I already do and also preclude the possibility of becoming a consultant). So why the Kuchef? Well, I love Aldi. They're easy to deal with if things go wrong. This was the first thermofake I've come across with a decent warranty at an affordable price (I have a strict policy of not being in debt, which includes financing things like thermomixes) and it has both a 60 day satisfaction guarantee so I can take it back if it annoys me, and a 3 year warranty, so if it breaks before then I can take it back for a refund/repair/replacement. Basically, having this one means that I can have the benefit of thermocooking (which I really like) now while I keep saving for the day when I get a thermomix. As a former Thermomix user, I can let you know how it stacks up if you like. :)

Hi, I bought a Kuchef on behalf of my friends the other day, she is so intrigued by the TMX but I know just won't bite the bullet and buy one, so this is a good starter to see if she would use it.
I told her to not treat it like it's a TMX and she should be fine. Don't overload, follow instructions carefully (incidentally, the recipes allow for cool down stirring to prevent burning).
So far she's keeping it simple with drinks but I'm sure it won't be long until she experiments.
Her Kuchef didn't come with the spatula though...

My sister and mother both bought one from Aldi.  I'm going over to have a play tomorrow.  With a three year warranty it's hard to see how they will go too wrong with the purchase.  My mother does not cook very much so really couldn't justify a thermomix.  I'll have a play with some of the basic things I usually make and see how it all goes.

I hope they have success Stace...the reviews I have read so far have not been favourable unfortunately.
Like the first release of Bellini, the kuchef seems to have a common problem with burning on 3 spots on the jug.
A few have mentioned returning them and getting the newer model bellini.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but just bought the Aldi Ku Chef. I've never used a thermo mixer, they are out of my price range at the moment so the Ku Chef seemed like a good alternative.

So Far... The recipe book isn't great, especially for first time thermo mixer user. They do include a DVD instruction disc which shows how to make a curry (probably the easiest thing to do).

I've made rice pudding, smoothies, curries, healthy chocolate balls, lots of baby food, boiled vegetables & pasta and made bread from scratch. I haven't managed to get the steamer to work properly yet, there are a lot of bits to it and I haven't had the patience. I have had the three burned spots when making the rice and curry but they were small and washed off easily, it didn't happen every time so I need to play around with it to see what I'm doing wrong. The bread was really easy to make, that surprised me. I want to make pasta & pizza dough next.

I need to experiment with more recipes. I tend to burn things when I cook so I was hoping this ku chef will help me to become a great cook. I'll keep you posted!

Great to see so many people buying Thermo machines.  I remember when ES first joined the Forum with her non Thermomix.  We were delighted to have her as a member.  When she first started posting,  she was asked to always state what machine she had so there was no confusion with settings and results.  It would be a good idea if new members did same if using recipes from the Forum as these recipes are developed for TMX.

Hi Bonnie,
A friend of mine just recently bought the Aldi cooker also. Let me know how you go with it if you could please - she is a little nervous that the blade doesn't look like it spins evenly and sometimes she smells a plastic smell from the motor.

I've finally got a minute to report back about my experience with the Aldi machine.  I've used both my sisters machine and mums and they both seem fine.  We made creamy tomato dip, gucamole, hommus, shortbread and coconut ice with my sisters machine and it really wasn't any different to using the Thermomix...the results were pretty comparable.  I made profiteroles and a tiramisu with Mum's machine and again it really wasn't any different to using the TM.  I have made ice cream custard in Mum's twice now...the first time I did end up with two burnt spots which cleaned off easily enough with a little bicarb.  The second time I actually read the instruction book and put the blade cover and butterfly on to cook and there were no burnt spots.  The blades sit a lot higher than the TM and there is like a channel in the base, I suspect that the butterfly is needed at lower speeds (ie most cooking speeds) to keep the food moving enough to stop it from burning.  I think they will both be happy with the machine for the amount that it will be used.

Thanks for the honest review. Not everyone can afford a thermomix.

Sounds good, I think my sister would be interested but she's in Adelaide. Do you have Aldi there?

Someone has a Kuchef page on facebook, hope this link works  https://www.facebook.com/Kuchefthemocooker?ref=ts&fref=ts
It might be handy to look up also.

Unfortunately it looks like the kuchef belonging to the person who started the Facebook page has not been performing! Although I have a sneaking suspicion that they used their butterfly when MAKING sorbet, so that might explain their problem.
Having a consultant is so worth it...
