Pea soup

Just wondering if anyone has had any success making split pea soup.  I have tried three times and have come to the conclusion that it cant be made in the TM.  I have even soaked the peas overnight to soften them.  I think they require a good hours cooking to soften them.  Love pea soup.

Hmm I think I have seen one somewhere...will have to search here. As I am sure that the bones etc went in the steamer basket. I never paid too much attention as I do mine in the crock pot over night or all day. Will see if I can find it and post a link otherwise I am sure that wonderful Thermomixer will know something, god bless him  :-*

Thanks Kathryn, maybe I should use my crockpot also.  So easy.  I found the pea soup was very gritty in the TM.  Cant stop cook atm.  Only had my TM for five days.

I have had mine for 12 months and still cook all day and every day in it!! It is just so wonderful lol. I was at consultant training on Thursday and they were laughing at me as I was caressing the TMX whilst talking about it!!

Sorry, may not have posted it - but think I sent it to Tenina, so will find it.

Basically - soak peas overnight (I pour boiling water over them and cover), then cook hock and remove and put meat in basket while cooking the peas.  I blitz them first so that it cuts cooking time and than again after so its smooth and then add the pieces of ham.

Hope that gives you ideas while I find the recipe.

Thanks guys, will try the soaking and double blitzing (before and after cooking).  Sounds like it should work this way.  Like the idea of the meat being in the basket while cooking the peas below.  Should image this would give the stock a nice flavour.  I'll give it another go.

There is a yellow split pea soup recipe in Cyndi's TM book.  I haven't tried it but that just recommends rinsing the split peas & cooking for 30 minutes.
