Bread Makers
« on: March 05, 2012, 04:06:32 am »
I have two very tired Breville bread makers.  A large and a small.
Both still knead the bread beautifully, but trip off our Earth leakage switch when they turn on to the bake cycle.
Apparently this is a known fault that happens when the unit gets a bit tired.

I would like to buy a new Breville,  But $$'s limitation says no at the moment.
But I can get a Morphy Richards Stainless Steel Breadmaker  48319  or a
Sunbeam Breadmaker Bakehouse Compact or a
Tefal Breads of the World Breadmaker
using Award points on my credit card

I have read heaps of reviews and the Morphy Richards seems the better way to go,  But would love to hear if any one else has had experience with any ot these
Or should I just wait and get another Breville?

Buy a good bread tin and get the TM to do the kneading for the moment until you have more $$$ available.

I have a (Breville? but have to double check the brand) bread maker with a collapsible blade, so once it starts the bake process the blade lays down which prevents the big hole in the bottom.
The other thing you could do is knead the dough in the TM then just bake in the bread maker (obviously not the one you have now) and remove the blade altogether to prevent a hole in the bottom.
My bread maker has a bake only function which is handy.
I don't know much about any other brand, although I did have a sunbeam one before this one which was great too.

Hi Dede.   Thanks..
I am using TC to make a lot of our bread now.  He does a great job and we eat lots of Isis's Easy bread rolls these days.   I love the free form styles.  And I don't mind hand kneading even.
My old Brevilles just have the standard paddle and the new fold down one sounds great.
But DGS (with Aspergers) will only eat square white bread and we finally have him accepting the breadmaker shape when we started having the problem with the Earth leakage switch.   Grrrrrrr.

The Tefal one sounds great as it has shaped pans that fit into the breadmaker for making different shape loaves and rolls,  But it doesn't get very good reviews.

Then I read all the reviews on Panasonic and think..  Maybe I should aim for one of them.

This is a TC loaf.  But it isn't square enough.  I used the wrong bread tin.   :o   :-))

Rosie I've had several Panasonic breadmakers over the years and they have all worn out.

I was able to buy some square bread tins with lids for my bread that I make in the TMX. When you use the lid you get a perfectly square loaf. I got them at Kitchen Warehouse here in WA.

The one on the left is made in the square tin.

Well you do have a dilemma then. If the bread must be square for him to eat it. I have seen bread tins that have a lid so the loaf stays perfectly square as it cant rise any higher than the lid  Would one of these be of any help?

Can't help much as I have only had Panasonic.  Could you knead the dough in the Thermo Chef and buy a square tin with lid,  or use a tin with straight sides and put a baking tray on top for baking.  Like we do with the hamburger buns to get a flat roll.

Thanks everyone.
Next loaf will be ..  Knead in TC and bake in the oven in the Breville pan :D
He is soo fussy.  And they say that no child will die of starvation if there is food available, but I am not willing to try it out.
He has held out for over 3 days when he was about 18months old when we tried to change his milk formula.
Until he was 5 he only ate or drank things at room temperature or slightly higher.
Now he drinks Milo or water(room temperature)  .  Eats one brand and one flavour of baby food (He is 9 years old).
Will not eat meat.
Luckily he likes fruit and green vegetables (only green vegetables).
And square bread with butter.
And my home made chocolate icecream has been a real hit.    ;D

Rosie you have a challenge by the sounds of it with your DS. Hopefully as he gets older he will build on the list of things he will eat.
