Since moving Have been trying to walk an hour most days... But not always succeeding.
Not as active here as on farm, but want to stay strong.. And fit, and I find for first time in life am gaining weight, either hormones or *: or both. However i am not eating more and have never dieted in my life so it is a shock to find clothes getting tighter!
Have dug out rebounder from pile in garage and am going to try to use that few mins several times a day as well as the walking.
I originally had it as rehab after accidents, used for post concussion and post # ankle. No room in last place for it.
Please help me keep it up and/or join me...?
-
Oh Jess, you are so inspiring to all of us. :-* :-* :-*
I wish I had the time to walk more, and exercise, You are one Strong Lady.. After working 5 days a week, I just want to relax and cook.....
Have you ever tried a pedometer, Its amazing how much you walk normally through the day, without thinking.
.Help is here for you, with all of us... :-* :-* :-*
-
Im up for it DJ. Had a hyster last year and am gaining weight like I don't know what. Need some company in a walk and a lighter diet.
-
DJ I have gained weight in the last six months and hate it. :( I have never dieted in my life either and the only change that I have made is *:.
Making things that I never bothered with especially sweet things. Don't get me wrong I would enjoy the occasional dessert when out or entertaining but in general I was a savoury person. Since TMX I have been making and eating lots more sweet things because it's easy and also lots of pastry dishes again because it's easy and yummy. I walk for an hour most days but since coming back from holidays in September I haven't been walking everyday as normal. Need to get back into my routine again. Hate when I put on some clothes and feel tightness in the waist. I am determined that I am not going to buy a larger size in clothes and want to lose the excess before it gets worse.
We have a small room with gym equipment but I get so bored on a treadmill or bike etc so I never use it. DH has also gained some weight too but he enjoys gym equipment whereas I can't be bothered with it. I will encourage you and anyone else who has the same problem and hope you will encourage me too :D
-
Lets do it girls. A walk every day? We can do it. :)
-
Girlpower ;D ;D ;D Let's do it.
Walk every day and a lighter diet. Should be easier for us as going into summer but winter in northern hemisphere will be more difficult.
-
I'll join in with you ladies. I love to be involved in anything that involves health :)
I haven't exercised in a couple of weeks because I've been unwell. I'm still having some tests done but I need to get back into some gentle exercise and build my fitness up again.
Let's do it! :D
I wish we could all go for a walk together :-)) ;D
-
Are you ok Amy?
-
I hope so MF! ;)
-
I've being thinking about exercising more lately, I too seem to have put on weight this year. I don't think I'd have time to walk an hour every day, but if I put my thinking cap on I'm sure I could find some way to squeeze in some more exercise.
Good on you Jess, I'll join you!
-
I admire you all. I'm dreading getting on the scales when I get home tomorrow. I haven't touched any of the goodies we bought.
DH and I try to go for a walk each day for about 3 km. it takes us about half an hour. We'll have to get back into it.
-
I need to join in too. I ve put on weight since I bought my machine almost a year ago. The weather is getting warmer and none of my summer clothes seem to fit >:( last year, I used to go walking with my neighbour in the mornings, but we got slack and stopped going. We have started up Gain, but she can on'y come two days a week. You have inspired my to try to go for a walk even on the days that she doesn't. I'm even trying to cut back on the sweet things and a a glass of wine during the week.
Sorry about all the typos. Mynipad doesn't like me tonight :(
-
I have to say I enjoy a glass of wine with DH in the evening and would rather cut out the sweet stuff than my glass of wine.
Wish we all lived close by and we could walk together as we would then encourage each other more. It's so much nicer walking and chatting than walking alone. At least I have my dogs but would get some strange looks if I was chatting to them about everything ;D
-
That would be lovely. I,m not a morning person and I find it really hard to motivate myself to get out of bed at 6.30. It's much easier to get up if you know that there is someone waiting for you to join them. I went by myself this morning and am planning to go tomorrow morning by myself again ( provided that the thunder Nd lightening has abated by then)
-
At least I have my dogs but would get some strange looks if I was chatting to them about everything ;D
And even weirder looks if they talked back ;D ;D ;D
-
I try to do about an hour per night on the Wii fit which also includes running laps up and down the passage (funny I know but it works) because I have no one to walk with and children in bed at 7pm. Really wished we could all walk together. Imagine the conversations and how quickly the time would pass!
-
I really think you need someone to walk with, not much fun on your own and besides that there is safety in numbers. Dogs are great but not everyone has one. I'll be with you all in spirit as I just can't do it at the moment even though I probably should.
-
That's funny. My DH bought me a wii fit for my birthday a couple if years ago, and I'm ashamed to say that I've never used it. Perhaps I should get him to plug the wii back in for me. Mind you, the kids would never get to sleep if I started running up and down the hallway- they would laugh themselves silly as I huffed and puffed past their bedrooms ;)
-
;D
-
We live in a small cul-de-sac with 12 homes in it and years ago, at night, I would walk up & down the street and around the cul-de-sac for 1/2 hour once DH was in bed. Felt rather stupid but I wasn't game to go out of the street in case someone grabbed me.
-
Oh I huff and puff too and DH is no support, he just laughs. But guess what I have lost 16kgs and even though it took almost 16 months, i don't care as I feel great. :)
-
I wouldn't wander around my neighbourhood at night either Judy. Not even with my ferocious boxer who would probably stink any offenders to death :-))
I exercise any time of day except nighttime ;)

Good on you Kimmy :D
-
Done my first 3 mins on rebounder.
Going for an hour walk after lunch, with a stop off for a cuppa with old friend on way to/from post office.
Walking around here is very safe. Big village lots of funny little side streets and cut throughs, we even have hills too, lots of houses and gardens to look at ( while pretending I am not looking, of course).
Two more x 3 mins to fit in later.
I feel better already knowing you are all doing this too.
Xx
-
Well done Jess :D
We are with you all the way. I will go for a nice walk around the boardwalk tomorrow, as long as it isn't raining! ;D
-
Well done DJ and enjoy your walk. :)
-
Before I got my little dog, I never used to go for long walks, however, now that I have had her for nearly 3 years I walk with her for at least 30 minutes each morning, she gets so excited about going on her walk to the park.
We are lucky we have a park across the road from us at home, and at work, there is a park just across the road.
I also listen to talking books on my iPod so don't miss not having someone to walk with. :D
-
Can anyone recommend a step counter/ pedometer free app for iPhone?
My old phone had a pedometer... Will see if still works without contract.
-
I walk twice a day with the dog.Probably wouldn't if we didn't have him.I try to do least an hour on each walk.Yesterday morning walked in torrential rain for an hour and even the inside of my wellies were wet because the rain was running down my legs :D :D :D :D You really can't be "fair weathered" if you own a dog ;) So DJ I'm with you ;)
-
That's good CC. Thanks to everyone.
Done 30 mins fast walk today, plus 2 x 3 mins on rebounder. 1 more session to go later.
Feel better already! LOL.
Tomorrow arranged walk with neighbour for the morning plus dogs and have a friend coming over so will be walking after lunch too.
Of course if I get called out first thing it all stops!
-
Morning- I'm off for my walk. :)
-
Yesterday when i got home, there were 3 couples walking, and there dogs, I will see if i can walk for 1.2 hour too..
-
CC you would have to be the keenest dog walker I know :D
-
This is a great idea DJ and great work everyone that's trying to add so me exercise into your day. We had a BBQ with friends last night and the host has a basketball court two of the boys picked teams and it was a rough and tumble game but such great exercise and we all had a fantastic time. We had two halfs with a large rest period so the adults could recover but all got up for a second go. It's always great exercising with others and the competitive streak came out in all of us.
-
I havent done any exercise for over 4 weeks.
I cant wait to be fixed and be back at the gym. The gym & cooking are the things I do regularly. I miss my gym friends too :( it is so much better to exercise with a friend, I used to have a friend but then she went back to work full time. Now I just catch up with whoever is there.
Happy to participate & climb hills again asap.
H
-
Had my last 3 mins rebounder tonight.
Everyone is doing so well. Well done.
-
Well done to you too DJ! :D
-
Parked my car a 20min walk away from work. It was OK this morningbut a very hot walk back to the car this afternoon.
Anyway 40 mins I wouldn't have done otherwise. :D
-
You are right Michele, good idea - well done.
-
Well done mcmich and DJ.
-
Couldn't go out today, kids at home, had to work in the morning then Melbourne cup lunch etc at home. So instead of a walk I rushed through some housework with no breaks, vacuuming, sweeping, washing floors upstairs & down so that I felt like I was getting a small workout LOL. Maybe I should get a wii - can't leave kids at home by themselves so I can go for a walk.
-
At what age can you leave children alone?
-
Not sure mcmich - mine are 7 & 9; I do leave them if I need to pop out for milk but I've only recently started doing that. Wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them for more than 10-15 mins.
-
Maybe double figures? I was a terrible mum. DH went to work about 7.00am and I got home from night duty about 8.00am.
They were 8 and 10. It wasn't an issue 15yrs ago. They are still here to tell the tale.
-
Maybe this helps Deedub

Of course I would!! I say the sweatier the better when it come to exercise ;D
-
It was ikky :-[
-
Thats true DFM.... I only like being sweaty if I'm in my workout gear ;) I guess you were in nice work clothes :(
-
At least I was on the way home.
-
Thats true too :)
A nice cool shower feels great after being hot and sweaty :D
-
CC you would have to be the keenest dog walker I know :D
I just get on with it,whatever the weather throws at me Judy :D :D :D
I've been for my morning walk with the dog.One and half hours.Really beautiful out there this morning very cold, frost and even the puddles were frozen.I saw a dog fox,my dog was busy working, putting up pheasants.Plenty of wood pigeon feeding on whats left of harvested crops.Didn't see any hares, although there normally are.
-
I did a 2 hour bush-walk this morning and saw two snakes (both red belly black snakes). I think they were enjoying the Sydney sunshine
-
They don't sound nice Vieve :(
We get tiger snakes down by the beach where I usually run. I try to avoid them if I can ;)

Glad I don't see snakes. :o I'd run for my life :D :D

we have a carpet snake around at the moment
-
I'm usually already running CC ;D And then the sight of a snake spurs me to go a lot faster!!!

You are guys are really inspiring. I have also put on weight since Wayne has finished work. Too much coffee and cake I think!!!
I really noticed it when the jacket I had intended to wear to this wedding in India was a tad tight. No time now to lose it so had to get something else but when I get back I really have to shut my mouth and get seriously into walking. I had lost it while we were away earlier in the year due to all the walking we were doing, but since getting back home I'm back in the rut and lazy!!!!
-
Done one 45 minute walk so far. As CC said lovely frosty morning.
-
Good work DJ :)
It was raining here today so I didn't go out, but I am going to go and step up and down on the step in the games room. I will try for 100 steps up and down, and then some squats and lunges. I may also try some chin ups on the door ;D
-
Just finished 1hr of wii fit. Didn't see any carpet snakes nor trouser snakes! ;)
-
Funny Kimmy were you looking for a trouser snake :D :D
Well done ladies you are all doing wonderfully
I am in need of getting fit, I don't need to lose weight but getting fitter is one of my goals must start using my treadmill and next year I am going to start spin classes once DD is at kindy
Keep up the good work
-
I didn't dog walk this afternoon, DH did, as I had a dental appointment. :-\
-
Off for my morning walk again :)
-
Only managed one walk today.
Phone died and as WORKING tomorrow. Wooohooooo.
Had to get it fixed.
Still got this weird headachey thing that comes on when I do more too. Lasted several weeks now.
-
DJ have you tried pressing your pressure points in the bottom of your skull.
Gets rid of head aches fast
-
Back of the head?
It is not just a headache, also a woozy, slightly sick feeling. It's like concussion, but I haven't hit my head.
Will try TMJ and Thai spider before sleep tonight.
-
Go to the doctor DJ. That's an order. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Go to the chemist and get them to check your blood pressure DJ.
-
I think a doctor sounds like a good idea DJ :o Pretty please with cherries and chocolate sprinkles on top? :)
-
No, wait, I just remembered we're supposed to be getting fit. Forget the chocolate sprinkles ;D
-
DJ at the back of your skull. Pressure points GB31.
maybe a check up at the doctor, sounds like blood pressure. ??
-
It'll be fine. I have always had very low blood pressure. Low cholesterol and I don't drink.
Am sure it's a low grade bug, just taking its time. I still have the slightly swollen glands to go with it.
-
Take care DJ. I managed an hour walk (56 mins actually) while kids are at school. Downloaded a pedometer app - will post results later, still have school pickup and trip to doctor with DD to go, all on foot.
-
nearly a hour, that is good..
-
All my walking today was up and down stairs.
Plus hour and quarter out with push chair and toddler.
So not bad.
-
On moday I can swim laps again ;D
So unfit, hope it goes well & can build up my exercise.
H :)
-
Well done DJ :D
And good luck Hally, you'll be great ;) I was going to start up at the pool again this coming week too :)
-
Great job DJ.
I am out injured for a few days guys. My ankle is bruised and swollen after I landed on someone's foot at netball Thursday night :(. So i will be with you in spirit!
-
I am going to start walking.. :)
-
Go for it Obbie, even 1/2 hour each day can make a huge difference.
Went to the gym this morning and the air conditioning was broken, I hate exercising in the heat.
-
Going to change my diet around Monday. see if I can loose 6 kilos. :)
-
I'd like to do the same :)
I managed a brisk walk of about half an hour or more 4 days last week. I missed a day as I had to be in the city early one morning for a work seminAr. Hopefully next week I'll make ir 5 days :)
-
Go Obbie, we know you can do it :-*
Went to the gym this morning and the air conditioning was broken, I hate exercising in the heat.
So do I Wonder, its horrible :( I usually go swimming on really hot days ;)
-
Failure today. Almost all day in car, with few walks around houses and fields.
Oh well there is always tomorrow.
-
DJ, this is going to sound very weird :-)) but I did read somewhere that squeezing your bum cheeks together while sitting down helps stimulate blood flow to your legs and strengthens your butt muscles. If you're sitting in the car for ages you could give it a try. Its not the most effective exercise but it makes you feel like you're doing something :D
-
I'm going to give that a try.
Way to much bubbles at a party last night so I think it will be a slower walk with the dogs to pick up our car from a friends.
-
Its actually really fun Wonder :) I'm doing it now while sitting at my computer. Its funny if you can get little rhythms going too ;D
-
You could work your pelvic floor muscles while you are at it Amy ;)
-
This sounds like some very complex multi-tasking, but since I'm a girl I should be able to manage it ;D
Here we go.... ;)
-
Lol :):):)
-
How's it going Amy? We'll all be sitting reading the forum sneezing out butt cheeks : :-))
-
Amy, you crack me up....
here on the forum, squeezing your little butt checks.
too much info.. :)
-
Who said anything about "little" butt cheeks Robyn? ;D ;D ;D
LOL Wonder :D :D :D
-
Oh Amy, you are hilarious 'rythyms going'. i have been watching Telethon whilst cooking so I now have a visual of you doing butt cheeks to Gangnam Style !!!! ???
Moptop
-
ROFL!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
This was the first thing I read this morning. Too funny!!!!
-
At last !
Excercise I can do whilst lying on the couch ;)
-
Just don't smile whilst you are doing it ES ;)
-
An hours walk today across fields and amongst cows and sheep. Lovely.
-
That sounds lovely DJ. I had an hour with the personal trainer this morning - not so lovely!!
Amy - I've been trying to combine the 2 exercises and it's very difficult!!
-
Amy - I've been trying to combine the 2 exercises and it's very difficult!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling Wonder! It takes a lot of concentration :-))
-
Totally failed lately - away for the weekend, then working & today had to catch up on cooking & housework. Hope to go for a walk or ride tomorrow.
-
Yesterday 45 mins brisk walk non stop.
Today failure except for walking in shopping centre and supermarket.
-
DJ, I read some research that said women actually burn a lot of calories with amount of shopping they do ;D
-
Oh Amy you are such a comfort!
-
I really like the idea of shopping for exercise girls :D :D
-
Well now you mention it JD, shopping is very rare for me, but I can think of one or two on here who must take a lot of exercise!!
-
I think Hally and Maddy would win the exercise when shopping :)
Great idea for exercise.. :-* :-* :-*
Keep up the exercise Ladies
-
Does lugging kids around/ chasing kids/ playing ball games with kids/ cleaning up after kids/ etc count as exercise too??!! ;)
I hope so! :D
-
It sure does Astarra ;) :D
-
does typing count as exercise.....
-
Its good endurance training for your fingers if you can type lots without stopping ;D
-
Probably good for RSI too... :-))
-
What is RSI? :-))
-
Repetitive Strain Injury - Amy you need to get out more :D :D
-
Aha, thanks Yvette ;D
So where would I go to learn about RSI? :-)) ;D
-
ask your cute doctor Amy....
I should do a couple of massages, that is good exercise.. :)
-
I'll have one, Robyn! I love massages! :D
Miss3 rubbed my back for me this morning, and while I wouldn't call it a massage, it really was nice! :D
-
I'm teaching my DD to massage me.... :D
-
You two are training your kids well ;D
-
Still walking the dog regularly. :D
-
I've walked two mornings this week. Mind you I did stop and chat to an old neighbour this morning on my walk, and had to walk double pace to get back home in time for work!
-
Walked to kinder once this week. Looked a bit funny pushing DS's bike with him nowhere to been seen. But he appreciated riding it home. His little legs are always too tired to walk. Netball tonight and we have made the finals woohoo!
-
Good luck Kimmy, how did you go?
-
Does cooking all day count?
No time for walking today except round and round the kitchen and to and for the freezers in the garage.
-
If you're cooking standing up DJ, then yes ;D
Netball tonight and we have made the finals woohoo!
Can't wait to hear how you went Kimmy! :D
-
Got my new program at the gym this morning, my PT has mad ethe most of me getting an excellent rating in my tests last week and has built a program that will really push me. Hopefully I don't find it too boring - I really don't enjoy exercising :( Will go to the gym again early tomorrow morning to make sure I remember the new program and then walk with a friend on Sunday.
Well done ES, CC and Kimmy on the walking and I hope you blitzed the final kimmy.
DJ, I'm sure you can count the walking to and from the freezers, it all adds up.
-
That was good of your PT Wonder. For a person who doesn't like exercise, there is nothing worse than a boring program :-))
Even is it takes a couple of sessions to get used to the new program, I really hope you enjoy it :)
-
I'm not so sure it was good of him Amy :P, now that it's all monitored on the system with my special key it will track everything I do which should make me push myself a little harder and we are hoping will help me get some motivation back. I've never really enjoyed exercising and only do it because I know I need to and I'm finding it very hard at the moment trying to it everything in working such long hours but I'm determined to get some of the motivation back and changed my body shape a little more.
-
Oh... well we can only keep our fingers crossed :P
Do you have any strategies for motivating yourself to do other things? Maybe if you do, you could apply the same principle to exercise...?
Motivation is definitely the most tricky part of exercise :-\
-
Amy, I'm a bit of "if it needs doing just get on and do it" sort of person so don't tend to use motivational strategies much. I'll keep up with the gym for that reason but it would be good if I could really actually enjoy it. I've tried pretty much every exercise out there and have never found anything I really enjoy.
Paying the extra for the PT keeps me going everyweek, and because he also works at the gym and trains there in his personal time he is always around, and I feel bad that he might see me being a bit slack so it motivates me to at least keep up a certain level. ;D
-
Hm... that does make it even more tricky. So you don't like swimming either? I like swimming when I don't want to get hot and sticky from sweat ;)
I use a lot of motivational things because I need that positive kick up the pants to get me moving ;D
Is he cute too? That would be another reason to be motivated ;D
-
I was a swimmer as a teenager but find it very boring and really can't be bothered with the whole getting wet business !! ;D ;D
The PT is the same age as me and he's a great guy and some might say he's good looking, but he doesn't appeal to me, he is also a stage and screen actor so I sometimes see him on the tv or in movies which is always a little strange.
I think I would find it a bit intimidating if I had a young good looking trainer!! We've had a student from the elite cricket academy watching all my sessions for the last couple of months as part of a placement program organised by the academy - he must be so bored the poor kid, he's only 18 and needs to be there from 6am on a Monday and he just watches. I'm sure he was hoping to get a placement in a gym with lots of young hot girls but instead he got a middle aged trainer with lots of middle aged clients!!!!
-
LOL :D :D
-
:D At least he can concentrate on the job and not be distracted Wonder.
-
LOL the poor guy ;D Hopefully he will learn how to interact appropriately with different age groups though. That is always an important skill for a PT.
I would feel nervous just having his there watching my session. Never mind him being that actual trainer! :P
I would agree that swimming can get boring after a while, the lap lanes do get pretty repetitive :-))
And I must admit I'm not a fan of having chlorine in my hair. It makes it very dry :(
-
Have you heard of bathing caps, Amy? ;)
-
I have astarra...have you ever worn one?
-
I'm sure most Monday's he was almost asleep, he never talked or interacted much but he seemed like a nice kid. I think 18 is very young to train as a PT. My OT made him research the perfect deadlift and he had to demonstrate and get me to do them on his last week, the poor thing was soooo nervous and I'm hopeless at doing deadlifts but he didn't like to tell me I was hopeless!!! Apparently as part of their training at the academy they have to choose a qualification to work towards in case the professional sports person doesn't work out so he was completing his VCE but with all sports related subjects. I'm hoping for his sake he manages to become a professional cricketer :-))
-
He is certainly hopeless if he can't even do a deadlift Wonder. It is a fairly basic exercise that all PT's should know :-))
I have my fingers crossed for him though ;)
-
I have astarra...have you ever worn one?
Yeah...but I fully understand where you are coming from...they are not the most comfortable things!! :-))
Was s'posed to be a joke, sorry. :-[
-
LOL don't be sorry astarra ;D I was having a little giggle to myself because you reminded me of the man I saw who was wearing one, and when he took it off he was bald :D :D It made me wonder if they have another purpose :-))
-
Maybe it keeps his head warm :D :D
-
LOL :D
Or maybe it stops his brain being sucked out of his ears ;D
-
Amy, that is funny :) :) :)
-
LOL!!! :D :D :D
-
My bet is it keeps the water out of his ears which is a problem I always had when I went into pools.
-
Of course, I knew there would be a sensible solution Judy ;D
-
I wish I was a better swimmer.
I was good and went for a walk this morning - 4 out of 5 mornings this week :)
-
55 mins brisk walk today.
-
Off to the gym in a while. Hopefully I remember the new program, although everything is meant to be on this new "key" I put in each machine so I'm meant to be able to just follow instructions.
-
Shopping and walking with DD, a double whammy. LOL ;D
-
Well done DJ! ;D ;D ;D
-
Well done DJ. If the weather holds up ill be going for a walk this afternoon.
-
Went for a walk this morning even though my friend didn't join me. I then walked the kids to school and then walked to the bakery for a loaf of bread. Doing housework today, so will the vacuum a whirl in a minute :)
-
Great job ES.
I had my normal PT session this morning and very happy that last week I exercised everyday, I even got to the gym (including my pt) 4 times although one of those was to learn my new program so not a proper workout.
-
Well done ES and Wonder :D
I can't wait to get back to my serious exercise :P
-
:) :) :) :) :)
-
So far 30 mins brisk walk, well actually 2 x 15 with break in between.
-
Thats interval training, well done DJ ;D
-
Thanks Amy.
Now am working in HUGE house, and have a seven week puppy to deal with. Lots of walking, bending, stretching, floor scrubbing...
Puppylates maybe!
-
I don't know how you do it DJ. Looking after kids and a puppy. They sure get their pound of flesh from Nannies.
-
Well I don't mind losing a pound or two of flesh in the process.... Another pound or two per hour would make the puppy lark more bearable. But that won't happen.

Wow DJ, a puppy as well as kids! You must be superwoman :D :D :D
I went for a walk with mum last night. We saw a frog on the footpath so mum gave it a little nudge so it would hop away from the road. It was very cute ;D
-
I hope you are having more luck with your puppy than I am with mine DJ - he's driving me insane, he just doesn't stop wanting to be with us every minute and throwing something for him to catch or play tug of war. I've lost track of the work calls where I've had to apologise for the barking dog!!
Went to the gym last night and might fit in a walk with the dogs tonight, early work call tomorrow and dinner for DD tomorrow night so don't think I'll get there again until Saturday.
-
Did a bit of walking today, but nothing really out of the ordinary - walk to school, walk to cafe, walk around shopping centre etc. I guess it all adds up!
-
Bumping this up with an update to see how everyone is doing?
Managed some half hour brisk walks this week before work. Very active at work too so am probably getting more exercise than when started this thread.
Need to get going now too.
How are you all getting on?
-
Great idea bumping this DJ. Sounds like you're well on track :D
I walked 6km yesterday morning and the flies were so bad I swear I'm not doing it again. I'm going to start swimming again instead :)
-

Good idea Amy cause flys cant swim ;D
-
I've managed to walk 4 out of 5 mornings this week. Somehow I managed to miss my neighbour this morning, we usually end up doing a few laps of the oval at the end of the walk. Apparently, she arrived at the oval just after I left >:( I had been chatting to someone walking his dog, and he told her that she'd just missed me!
-
I'm managing exercise 5 or 5 times a week, feeling good in the lead up to Christmas just need to keep it up.

LOL ;D That was my thought as well Mandi ;)
-
Eugh flies! Horrid.
A fair walk yesterday with DH. Booked dog walk with neighbour on weds am.
-
So how is everyone going over the silly season? Finding time for exercise? :)
I've been swimming most nights, and trying to be generally more active during the day ;)
Good luck to everyone over Christmas and New Year :-*
-
Apart from my driving duties I am on my feet all day long 10 hour shifts in a huge house, plus puppy runs so no time or energy for other exercise. It must count!
See what scales say on Friday before the fudge season starts. LOL
-
No time here.
swimming next week though
-
I heard someone say something the other day which is very true....
"So many people worry about what they eat between Christmas and New Year, when they should really worry about what they eat between New Year and Christmas."
I thought it was really good :)
-
Love that saying Amy. Very true.
-
Still dog walking twice a day :)
-
LOL Amy, good one.
Lost a few pounds, so can enjoy my days off from Saturday. Yum yum.
Hope to have nice walks if this rain would stop too.
-
Good work DJ :D
If you have a few stairs in you house you can just walk up and down those a few times if the rain doesn't stop :)
-
Good walk yesterday, and a good night's sleep.
-
Thats great DJ :D
I swam 2km yesterday and 2.5km today :)
-
Okidoki. That's it. I need to stop looking at the shopping thread and start looking at this one! It has been waaay too long since I've thought about exercising. So reading this thread is the first step...maybe tomorrow I'll think about exercising....
-
Well done Amy. What do think about when you swim?
I have exercised for 1hr today and yesterday :) makes me sleep better too DJ.
-

Thanks Kimmy :) Most of the time I think about what I'm going to do with my life :-)) Otherwise I'm concentrating on my breathing and my stroke ;)
Exercise makes me sleep better too! :D

We'll check up on you tomorrow Jamberie ;D
-
Thanks Amy! I think I'll need it!
Maybe my first step will be to dust off my exercise bike and find my runners.....
-
No worries Jamberie ;D Do you have a favourite exercise? I find it hard to stay motivated if I'm doing an exercise that I don't like :-))
-
My favourite exercise is a good spin class...but given I don't have a gym membership at the moment it's not really an option! I like the idea of running but I haven been for a run since before I was pregnant (DD is 2.5!). I think I'm at a point where I just need to do something & running and exercise biking are easy options for me.....thanks for asking :)
-
I haven't done anything for the last few days, we have a house full of people and struggling to keep up with everything. I'm back at work tomorrow and thinking it will be a rest even though I'll be flat out.
-
This is a great thread! I am all for getting/staying fit and fabulous!
Some of you may know that I have decided to do a full marathon in 2013. I am actually a novice runner, more of a fun runner. And I am slow. Sloooooow. My strides are short and I try not to push myself too much as I don't want to risk injury (who can afford an injury, studying, working and minding a little child). But I do love running and try to stick to my training plans.
To be honest, though, I have to work hard to keep myself motivated. Every morning, without fail, my mind tells me to get back to bed and sleep a little longer. It tells me that I have done well (I kicked all of my baby weight after I started running and am now at my slimmest, even when compared to before baby), therefore I can sit back and relax.
I have recently struggled hard with uni assignments, graduation, work starting and already crazy leading up to Christmas. I have been missing a few runs and have indulged myself in too many treats (thanks to Thermie), but got the much needed kick up the ass a couple days ago to restart my marathon training. To cement my resolution, I have finally come around to signing up for the damn thing!
It's the Canberra Marathon in April 2013.
I hope you don't get too bored with my marathon talk in the next 16 weeks... Hoping to source some support here, too (social media is a great thing, isn't it?). I also intend to fundraise but am investigating a couple of beneficiaries before setting up an appeal.
-
Of course we won't bore of it TL, its a great goal and you are really admirable for your dedication! Especially with everything else you have on your plate :o :D

Wow, you were a spinner? I admire anyone who can go to those classes. I went to ONE and my butt hurt for days ;D ;D ;D
Even a nice fast-paced walk would be good to build you back up to running if you haven't done it for a while :)
Health is one of my greatest passions :D I'm here to support anyone who wants to change theirs for the better! ;)
-
It'll be great to hear about your training TL:)
Amy, I wouldn't say I was a 'spinner' but I went about twice a week....having great music pumping really loud (and the peer pressure) was a great motivator & the bonus is you don't need to be overly coordinated like in other classes ;) and you get used to the sore bottom! I started out by not pushing myself and just keeping time/rhythm, then if I wasn't 'feeling it' I'd crank up the tension by the end I was keeping up with the trainers (then fell pregnant with complications and couldn't exercise)...if you don't push yourself too hard too fast it is lots of fun!
-
Twice a week was pretty good Jamberie ;D And it sounds like you were pretty good at motivating yourself too ;)
I was too embarrassed walking around town with a limp that I didn't try to get used to the sore bottom! And I got the worst wedgies of my life in Spin or RPM classes :o :-)) :D
I have a mountain bike now that I ride occasionally, and I stand up a lot because the track I ride has quite a few hills :)
-
Mountain biking looks fun, but I'm a bit uncoordinated so I think fixed "hills" or bike paths are more my style :)
-
LOL fair enough ;D You probably don't get lizards or snakes in a Spin class either ;)
-
Amy, Jamberie, what do you do at a spin class?
-
TL it will be great to hear about your training plans, I find hearing about others also keeps me motivated so bring it on. Amy will now be checking on you each day to make sure you are sticking to your plan so there will be no slacking!
-
Amy, Jamberie, what do you do at a spin class?
It's a high intensive exercise cycling class where you do intervals of easy and hard cycling (with resistance up) and you can burn up to 800 cals in the class (three muffins!), which is quite a lot. I used to go go the gym at uni and thr instructor works us hard! This reminds me that I should sign up again for lunchtime classes.
-
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/28/uqarezag.jpg)
Here's a snapshot of my training plan - I am in week 16 now and today 5k easy run is on the menu :) I slept in and now miss 2 is up and hubby is still in bed because he stayed up late working so will have to wait until he wakes up before I can lace up.
Or maybe I should take miss 2 in a pram? Hmmm.
-
Thanks TL. Don't think I will be taking that up, it sounded like fun, I thought it might be a bit of a dance class.
Back to walking the dog. :D
-
What exercise equipments does everyone have in their homes?
I only have a fitball (purchased when I was pregnant) and a couple of dumbells. And a yoga mat. I kept thinking I need to have more stuff: Ideally would like a step, kettlebells, skipping rope. But having said that, have to admit am not using the fitball and dumbells as much as I should.
-
TL, I've recently purchased a book called "You Are Your Own Gym." It made me realise that I don't actually need any equipment, and I can achieve a high level of fitness using just my body ;)
Good luck with your run today :) I think taking the pram might be a bit much for 5km!
-
We don't have anything at home really, DH has some dumbells and we purchased DD a skipping rope for Christmas. I find I never do much exercise at home, these days much prefer going to the gym, the pt or walking.
TL the training plan looks great. This is probably a stupid question or I've misunderstood but if you are on week 16 now do you repeat the plan again for the build up to the marathon in March?
-
I've seen that book Amy and I do a bit with my pt just using my own body weight and it's amazing how hard you can work with no equipment - it's all about knowledge and motivation.
-
It sure is Wonder :D And a lot cheaper too! It is also great because you don't have the excuse of the gym being closed and not having access to machines ;)
-
Amy, did you ever get to the bottom of your health problems? It doesn't sound like you are back to all the exercise you used to do but concentrating on walking and swimming.
-
Not yet Wonder. Next tests scheduled for 7th Jan :(
I'm not getting back into the really intense exericse until I know what is happening :)
-
it is pilates for me with a few Zumba moves, have mat and roller but would like to get a fitball, sometimes we do a whole pilates class on the ball, i didnt realise you could do so much with it.
-
Hope they get you sorted soon Amy. :-*
-
Thanks astarra :D :-*
-
Hopefully this lot of tests gives you an answer Amy, at least that way you know what's going on and you can work on getting well again. Good luck
-
Thank you Amy!
You motivated me to exercise instead of sleep! i just spent 15 minutes on my exercise bike and did approximately 4.5km...I'm a bit proud considering I've not used it in so long! Tomorrow I'm aiming to either increase m time or distance...I'll see what I feel like tomorrow. Thanks again and I hope your tests help you work out what's going on so you can get back into your own rhythm again xx
-
Thanks Jamberie, and good on you! Thats a great effort, well done :D :D :D
I bet you will sleep well tonight ;) And I can't wait to hear how you go tomorrow! ;D
Hopefully this lot of tests gives you an answer Amy, at least that way you know what's going on and you can work on getting well again. Good luck
Thanks Wonder :) I can see and feel that I've lost a lot of muscle, which is making be quite sad because I worked so hard for it. But I know it will be easier to get it back when I'm better than it was when I was first building it up, so that is some consolation ;)
-
TL the training plan looks great. This is probably a stupid question or I've misunderstood but if you are on week 16 now do you repeat the plan again for the build up to the marathon in March?
Hi Wonder, I just started the training, week 16 is actually weeks 1 (I am counting backwards to race day, just like what it says on the plan). But yoi're right, it's easier to say Week 1.
5k done and dusted this morning - did ut on my own (without pram), thereby didn't have to deal with any toddler tantrums! I have actually raced pushing the pram before (4k and 6k fun runs), and more effort have gone into keeping miss 2 happy than into the running. Pram is very light yet sturdy; it's designed specifically for running. This is how it looks like:
I am the one with the short hair and purple jacket. This was a few months ago at a local fun run.
Actually, just realized that I was supposed to do 8k today. The 5k is for tomorrow *slaps forehead*.
I also wanted to share this running-themed inspiration board for 2013 that I had just made this morning out of magazine scraps. It started out as a craft project for Miss 2, but she quickly lost interest... So I kinda took over and made this for me instead. It is now hanging over the bathroom mirror! I am pretty proud of this as I am not a crafty person... Hope this will keep me motivated in the next 16 weeks.

Sorry for the novel!
-
That is very inspiring thermielove, I love doing motivation boards or scrapbooking, I think I will try something similar to get myself to exercise, eat better, thank you for sharing that :)
-
That is one impressive stroller TL. Love the board. :)
-
Thanks for sharing Thermielove, all the best with your fitness goals for 2013.
-
My exercise in the next few weeks is getting back on my feet after hip replacement on Jan 2nd - I really want to then get fit and walk lots when I'm fully recovered - maybe I'll start walking fun runs! My running days are over and out!
-
Hi Dublin Girl I diont think I have chatted to you yet all the best for recover from THR how long ago did you have it?
-
sorry havnt got the right glasses on, I didn't see the date, all the very best with the op!
-
TL that board is a great idea and I'm sure it will keep you motivated. At least it's early days to mess up your distance.
Dublin Girl , all the best r the hip replacement.
-
Good luck with your operation Dublin Girl :-*
I swam another 2km yesterday afternoon :)
-
All the best with the op DG.
-
Crossing fingers for you DG :-)
-
Good luck DG :)
Wow Amy, 2km, that's great!
I just did 10 mins on the bike today, I had lots of stuff to do, but better than nothing I guess.
-
Hope all goes well DG :)

Thanks Jamberie! It gets a bit tedious just watching the bottom of the pool for an hour, but its worth it afterwards! :D
Anything is better than nothing ;) ;) ;)
-
Thanks Jamberie! It gets a bit tedious just watching the bottom of the pool for an hour, but its worth it afterwards!
That's kinda how I feel on the bike. I usually watch TV, today I tried reading the forum but I won't be doing that again...I slowed down heaps!
-
LOL thats the only problem with the forum.... :-)) ;D
When I used to use my X-trainer in front of the TV, I would put on a movie with lots of fast-paced action scenes ;)
-
I walked and walked and walked (even up satiars) for 5 hours around the shopping centre. :D
-
Well done Mich!! :D :D :D
I don't know what satiars are, but they sound like hard work ;) ;D
-
Thanks everyone for your wishes - will let u know how I go!
dd17 had tonsils removed on dec 20 and my worry was she'd have a slow recovering or end up back in hospital before my surgery but glad to say she's on the mend.
-
Glad to hear DD is getting better DG :)
I swam another 2km today :D
How is everyone else going in the heat and holidays? Except DJ of course, you won't be very hot over there, but you might be frozen instread!
Jamberie, done anymore exercise biking today? :)
-

Thanks for asking Amy :) No exercise biking yet...although I won't feel too bad if I miss today because I did some gardening for a few hours today so I figure that counts!
It's only supposed to be 27 degrees here today so it's kinda nice.
-
Walked the dogs yesterday and today and went to the gym yesterday and did a great work out. Our house guests are all finally gone gone and just more craning up to go. Exhausted today.
-
Good on you Wonder :D I bet it must be a relief to have the house to yourself again :)

Gardening, vacuuming, ironing, cleaning.... it all counts Jamberie, as long as you're moving! :D :D :D
Running around after kids counts too ;D
Everyone should have a day off each week anyway ;) Exercise isn't meant to be punishment, so its important to let the body rest too!
-
Did some more walking around the shopping centre today. I think I've found an excercise I really like and could stick to. :D
-
Did some more walking around the shopping centre today. I think I've found an excercise I really like and could stick to. :D
Now that's my kind of exercise!!! :D
-
Me too and you can attach children for weights!!
-
You're full of good ideas Kimmy ;D
-
Oooh, that's a tough one, weight training or endurance training? !
..I tend to get more distance when I'm child free!
-
And your purse probably gets an unwanted workout with a child in tow!
-
Me too and you can attach children for weights!!
I think leave the kiddies at home and use shopping bags full of shoes/clothes/etc for weights!! ;) :D :D
-
Good Luck DG with the op.
Everyone is doing so well on here. ;D
Just 30 mins walk today but better than nowt.
-

What a good idea Katie. All the great tips you pick up here at the forum. :D
-
Child free shopping is so much better for health. Less stress, more walking and less eating. And of course more spending ;D
-
;D ;D ;D
-
i am going for one of those shopping workouts in the city today!
-
Enjoy GHM. :D
-
I had my last PT session for 2012 last Thursday and happily since Oct I have lost 4kg and 8cm off my waist. Still have sore arms from the training they made me do.
I have packed my runners and workout gear to take with me on holidays - although we always do lots of walking and don't eat badly (but the yummy cocktails do add up).
-
Kyton - well done on weight loss! Working with a PT is so effective. I had one at the very beginning of my weight loss journey (10 years back) and those 12 sessions gave more than just exercises and motivation but also learned a lot about nutrition and healthy lifestyle.
-
Bit of a set-back DD17 back in hospital with bleeding - hopefully out tomorrow!
-
Oh no Dublin Girl! Fingers crossed that she'll be out tomorrow :-\

On holidays you are allowed to have a few treats... ;D
-
Just gardening and drinking heaps of water for me today as I had a migraine this morning and still feel 'hungover' from it :(
-
>:( hope you feel better Jamberie
-
I really feel for you jamberie... Migraines in any shadow or form are absolute cows of things... Hope you feel better soon!!!!
-

Hope she is ok, DG!

Oh no :( Hope it goes away soon, Jamberie.

Closed off the year with cruisey, 14km run around the Inner North part of Canberra. Took my time, enjoyed the scenery and even stopped to take pics. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/31/3ataqy5e.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/31/mudyqava.jpg)
-
I feel for you Jamborie I too suffer from Migraines ( touch wood) haven't had one for over a month, they are a waste of a day.DG on Oz I hope your DD is ok and home soon. Everyone stay safe and healthy
-
Hope you feel better soon Jamberie :-*
Nice photos TL :)
-
Hope you are ok DG
-
How is your daugter now, DGinO? Hope she is on the mend. :-*
-
I hope your daughter is on the mend DGIO.
Thanks for the good wishes everyone. It should be ok by tomorrow morning and then I'll be up to my old tricks ;) I think I'll be sore tomorrow, I ended up getting carried away in the garden pulling out lomandra and replanting some of it (like free plants :) ) It was quite rewarding, especially as I did the majority after 7pm when the weather was just divine here :)
Yes AB, they are a waste of a day. Usually I can pick the cause (not enough sleep, red wine, chocolate etc) but this one was a real surprise :-\
Great pics ThermieLove, such a beautiful place to run :)
-
Gardening is still an active activity Jamberie, so you've done really well considering the migraine! Hope you're not too sore tomorrow ;)
Swam another 2km this afternoon :D
-
DD17 discharged from hospital today - still pretty flat was vomiting overnight and this morning but now seems to be holding down food and no bleeding! I'm off to hospital tomorrow for my surgery at 5pm! Thanks for all the good wishes.
Dublin Girl
-
All the best for a smooth hospital visit and a speedy recovery. :)
-
Best wishes DGinO :-*
-
Best wishes DGinO :-*
For you and your DD.
We had a good but very MUDDY walk today. 23 mins to get up a very steep hill, almost slipping back as we went up, good for cardio vascular system and 50 mins brisk walking altogether. Clear and bright, very cold wind.
-
I found my joggers, so i am going for a walk soon.
-
Sluggish 5k run yesterday pushing a cranky toddler! Got an awesome workour picking up hat, shoes and toys off the ground while running... NOT! The heat didn't help either. Pace was abysmally slow. Oh well. At least I could tick it off the plan.
This morning I got up early for my workout. But because this is my firat day at work, I was a little hesitant about going for a run - what is I don't have enough time to get ready for work? What if I feel too tired for work? The demons in my head kept telling me to stay put and move my run to the afternoon. But eventually I managed to silence them and have not regretted my decision to lace up and head out.
I smashed a 10k hills workout in perfect running weather: cool but sunny. I ran around the base of Mt Ainslie, maintained a slow but even pace throughout and only stopped for a couple of drinks and to marvel the group (gang? herd?) of kangaroos crossing my path. They move so gracefully, I think spotting them gave my run a bit of a boost, too.
The only downside of this fantastic morning is that I may have pulled a muscle charging downhill. I wanted to give my quads a workout, instead felt pain in my right buttock. Oh well, time to get that foam roller (or book that massage). Tomorrow is rest day!
-
Well done thermilove, sounds like you are going great. I'm having a few days rest as feeling very sluggish, I think all the guests, cooking, cleaning and setting up for parties as well as work has all got to me. I have a PT session on Friday so think I will take it easy until then. The family are all going away for a week so I should be able to train each day they are away.
Best wishes DGinO.
Great job DJ.
-
I forgot to share: I have updated my blog, it has a new look and a new domain. Please check out www.rundhitrirun.com and follow my journey to my first marathon :) I will try to post at least once a week.
-
Well had surgery at 6pm yesterday and up and walked a little today - attached to Iv and leg pumps (DVT preventers) but hopefully will loose them all tomorrow and start lapping the ward level - although I was pretty bugger today after my few steps! Aim to be home by Tuesday fingers crossed!
Thanks for the good wishes. Dublin girl
-
That's incredible news DG!! I take my hat off to you!! I do hope everything goes very smoothly from now on and that you're home as soon as possible. All the best and good luck!
-
I had to go back quite a few pages Dublin Girl to find out what you were in hospital for. Glad to hear you are up and about - gee they don't waste any time these days having you up and walking. Good luck with it all - a lot of people go into rehab and not straight home from hospital - is that not an option for you?
-
Wow great news DG. All the best with your recovery.
-
Great to hear you are up and about DG, have a speedy recovery.
-
Fingers crossed that all goes well for you Dublin Girl! :-*
-
DG in Oz it sounds like everything went well, I like Judy had to go back to see what you were in for Hip , well Hip Hip hooray it is over and now to get going pain free I hope for you.
-
Hope all goes well for you Dublin Girl :)
-
Glad you are on the road to a speedy recovery DG.
Have been on several long walks around Port Macquarie. :)
-
That's great news Dublin Girl, I hope the rest of your recovery is just as speedy.
I went to a Bikram Yoga class tonight, it was hell but I got through most of it, here's hoping I feel great tomorrow.
-
What is the difference between Bikram yoga and normal yoga Wonder?
I've been doing lots of swimming. 2.5km yesterday and 2km the day before :)
Where is Jamberie? ;D
-
I'm here....*head down* I've been thinking about exercising every day, but I still have the 'hang over' from the ridiculous migraine I had the other day and I just don't want to set if off again. It was a bit better today so I think I'll be able to get on the exercise bike again tomorrow. My sister is a dietitian and she's going to help with the elimination diet so I can work out the triggers (I'm sure they're food related -cheese, alcohol, chocolate), but I need to wait to start my new job and get back into a routine before I attempt such a restrictive diet..... -thanks for asking after me :)
mmm, maybe I should get a yoga DVD!
Wow Amy, your swimming training is going swimmingly ;D
-
LOL Jamberie ;D
I wish thinking about exercise burned calories ;) I don't blame you for not wanting to set the migraine off again. They're nasty things. Good luck getting back on the bike tomorrow and I really hope your sister can help you!
I had one of my best friends around today, she's a dietitian too :D
-
I had one of my best friends around today, she's a dietitian too :D
They're handy people to know :) My sister deciphers all our medical jargon for us (xrays, blood tests etc) before we go to the doctor, so that then we have the righ questions to ask....very handy. And she's great because she doesn't judge what anyone eats and she's all for everything in moderation- no fad diets etc
-
They are indeed handy Jamberie ;D I have another two dietitain friends as well as her, another friend who is an ICU nurse, and an auntie who is a Director of Nursing and also trained in midwifery ;D So I have all bases covered ;)
I like your sister already! Moderation is the definitely the key, and with everything in life, not just food :) :)
-
Hoping you get to the bottom of them Jamberie, I've never had one but my DH gets them and one of his triggers is corn chips. He also gets a lot more in September/October so we put them down to something in the air at that time of year. He does find if he gets too tired he gets them as well.
Amy, Bikram Yoga is done in a room heated to around 40 degrees with 40% humidity and is a set routine which goes for 90 mins and consists of 26 poses and 2 breathing exercises. From what I can tell to a very rigid form of yoga and is patented/copyrighted by its founder so you can only teach or have a Bikram studio if trained by them. I'm not really sure why I wanted to try this form of Yoga so much but they say you need to go to at least 3 classes in quick succession and then you will fall in love with it, I'm really hoping that's the case. I don't feel any different today although one of the girls in the class said I did really well for my first try as I managed to stay in the room and do at least 60% of the poses, the heat did get overwhelming though for the last 30 mins or so. I've got a pt session this morning so it will be interesting to see how I go with that. I certainly slept well after the class last night.
-
Oh wow Wonder, that sounds more like torture to me! :o I can't exercise if there isn't breeze, air conditioning or a pool ;D
It sounds very hard. I hope you get some great benefits from it!! :)
-
Recovering well -Physio had me climbing stairs at 7am this morning - should go home Monday! Having x-rays today just to make sure everything where it should be. DD17 got ok from surgeon yesterday to go to Anglesea for a couple of days but to head to Geelong Hospital if any more bleeding but highly unlikely! Thanks for all the good wishes.

-
DGinO - that's wonderful news!! Absolutely fantastic! Here's hoping you just go from strength to strength!! :D :D
-
DG in OZ sounds good progress.
-
Glad to hear you are recovering well DG :)
-
Good news DGinO that you're going home on Monday ;) I hope your DD stays well as well ;D
-
Seems that you are on track DG - so good to hear that. Glad that DD is Ok too. :D
-
A good 45 minute brisk walk with plenty of hills.
Need to measure map, we think it was 2 miles.
Glad things going ok DGIO. Take care.
-
Nice work DJ :D
DGiO, hope things are still going well in your recovery :)
-
Wonder, I enjoyed Bikram yoga more in autumn, spring and winter but not in summer! In fact there is a noticeable drop off in attendance in summer!
-
Sounds like you are going great guns Dublin Girl, keep up the food work.
Courton, I figured its so hot outside I may as well just go. I wonder why expel don't go as much in the hot weather? Did you see the benefits from going? I was hoping to do another class today but got very badly sunburnt yesterday and very sore today so hoping maybe l'll be ok tomorrow. I've heard you need to really make an effort to go a few times in the first week before making a decision.
-
I did it for years and then lost interest...but that is me. I do some form of exercise for a few years and then get bored. Stick with it for at least 3 or 4 sessions before you make a decision. Remember little sips of water is the secret. I definitely felt great, slept better and felt it detoxed my body.
-
Thanks Courton, I'm aiming to go a few times this week before making up my mind. I think the fact that each session is 90 mins will turn me off in the end. I found the first session really hard but strangely looking forward to going back.
-
Another good brisk walk today an hour this time with very steep escarpment to climb... Not so brisk up that bit (LOL) but tremendously good cardiovascular workout!
Yesterday was 1.7 miles, haven't worked out today's yet. DH has gone off with the map!
-
Started back with my morning walks today- first one since Chriztmas. Hope to be more consistent this year ;D
-
I have started back with my morning walk, but the humidity was in the 90s, so felt sticky and yucky, unusual to have high humidity here in Albany, will be glad when we are back to normal😄
-
I went for one morning walk a while back rainbow, it was about 5am but the flies and humidity were unbearable. That is why I now swim at night time at the pool :)
ES, go you ;D
DJ, well done! :D
-
Just back from Pilates, great class, feel longer, leaner and stronger!!!
-
Home from hospital yesterday - have my special height chair etc and wearing my beautiful nylon TED socks (too hot though) - managed to shower and wash my hair so feeling a but more normal. I think it will be a while before I'm pounding pavements getting fit! I'm going stir crazy although glad for ipad and forum!
Dublin Girl in Oz
-
Can imagine the heat getting to you DGiO . . it'll come - just be patient but make sure you're doing all the physio etc! All fingers and toes crossed for a speedy recovery ( . . and pounding of pavements!! ;D )
-

You're making good progress DGIO. I know it is hot but keep wearing those TED's until you are back to normal activity. :)
-
glad you are feeling better DG
-
A good brisk hour walking today.
Considering a bicycle... Not sure if really a sensible idea.
Will think on it.
Don't want any white elephants... Use saddle money to buy one maybe?
-
Nice work DJ :D
Do you want the bicycle for exercise or for transport? Or both? :)
Mum and I are starting food diaries today :)
-
Well exercise but transport locally eg pop to post office etc.
try to bike instead or walk or car. Quicker by bike.
With helmet obviously.
Diaries sound good. Can do one on line fitness pal or something like that.
-
I do have a fitness pal account, but I never use it. We're writing in proper diaries so we can check up on each and we can take them anywhere we go ;)
And I don't like the fitness pal one because it counts your calories. I don't believe in counting calories :)
I think a bike would be really handy for you DJ :D It would build up some great leg strength ;) Can you get a good deal somewhere?
-
Will investigate this week Amy.
I need a non chore related task to do before work. There are some bike shops fairly near. I think I need to test, then maybe look online for second hand when I know what suits.
I leave home 1pm all this week, never knowing when i'll be back. Strange but true! Weds and sat booked as late ones.
My car needs a service and MOT too.
Why don't you like calories?
On an agricultural basis for feeding livestock the energy going in is calculated exactly according to age and stage of animal. Forage is tested and analysed. If you want animals to gain weight and condition, or produce more milk, you increase the feed. Of course dietary fibre is important etc. and it is not quite that simple.
So for humans calories = Energy going in Too much and weight is gained etc .
Less calories, weight loss etc and can even plan for maintenance in animals and humans.
-
I hope you find something nice and affordable DJ :) A leisurely bike ride would be a good way to start the day I think :D I hope work is still going well too.
I just think counting calories is a waste of time. If you eat until you are satisfied and eat a varied and balanced diet, there's no need. Lots of people can do it :) Some just lose touch with their body signals :-\
I've studied the energy balance I could sit down and work out how many calories I should eat and how much exercise I should do. But there are more productive things I could do with my time :)
-
DJ a bike sounds good :)
-
Jamberie, how is your exercise going? Have you been doing much? :)
We're getting a 2 in 1 exercise machine and also a second hand pilates thingy :D
-
35 mins yesterday
45 mins today.
Harder walking in snow.
-
Great work DJ :D I imagine walking in snow would be similar to walking in soft sand at the beach?
We have order a cross-training machine, it should arrive early this week :D
-
A bit Amy, but more hazardous too!
Slower as the pavements were very slippy with deep slush.
-
Hm, yes, I hadn't thought of that DJ! Be careful won't you? :-*
-
Another 30 minutes today. Took a walking stick but the extra inch of snow made it less slippery.
-
Don't laugh, but I'm going to water aerobics with some grandmas tonight ;D
-
I love water aerobics Amy. We did it for a year or so once a month with the carers a while back but then they stopped it :(
-
I've never done it before Judy. I'm a bit nervous because I have never seen any other young people doing it ;D
Why did they stop the water aerobics? That's not fair :( If you can get a carer for Geoff tonight you could come to my class with me :D
-
Don't worry about being with the oldies Amy, they will love having you amongst them. It's so easy doing exercises under water, that's why it is suitable for old, aching, arthritic bodies and the things you get to do with the noodle are hilarious :D
Funding obviously was a problem with the carers, we used to have about 6 or 7 in our private class then they took us to lunch afterwards - it was a great few hours away from home.
-
Thanks for the reassurance Judy ;D ;D
Sounds like it was lots of fun Judy. If I had lots of money I would fund your carers group to do water aerobics again :D
-
Water arobics are great in pregnancy too Amy - it might not just be grandmas! ;)
-
Oops, sorry astarra ;D Will you be there? :D
-
I wish! ;D
-
So do I! :D
-
It's great fun Amy! I used to go with a lady I worked with years ago and we would always have such a laugh during the class and a bottle of champers at home afterwards!! ;D ;D
-
You would have had more laughs if you'd had the champers before the class Katie ;D ;D
-
True, Amy but I think if that was the case we would never have made it to the class!! :D :D
-
Good point Katie :D ;D
-
This is not a torture device... it is my new second-hand pilates machine! :D
-
Good luck with that Amy :)
-
Thanks Yvette. Its fun ;D
-
I like the idea of champers
-
Tried my new shoes out on my favourite track this morning ;D Spent nearly two hours down there walking and jogging! It was a beautiful morning to be out. I went really early so I could see the sunrise over the ocean :)
How is everyone else going? Jamberie? ;)
-
Has been a lovely day today Amy, glad you enjoyed your walk, I have had a week of walking, just been lazy but tmw is another day 🐶🐶🐶
-
Meant to say a week off walking 😎
-
I'm into week 2 of morning walks as most of my clothes have inexplicianbly shrunk lately >:(
-
Don't you hate that ES >:( I blame the clothes dryer ;)
Hope you're getting back into your walking Rainbow, it makes you feel so good :D
-
I picked up a free pedometer from an hbf stall on friday.
I dont k ow how accurate it is, but 60 mins in the treadmill walking at 6 with an incline of 6 is over 9,000 steps.
Are we meant to do 10,000 per day?
H :)
-
That sounds about right Hally, I used to use one years ago and would walk for an hour every morning and from memory it used to be around 9000 steps. Back then the recommendation was for 10,000 steps per day not sure if it's still the same.
-
Yep, 10,000+ steps is a good goal to aim for Hally :D
-
Yep, 10,000+ steps is a good goal to aim for Hally :D
10,00 steps is not very much ???
By 11am I was just under 13,000 & I still have about 10 or so hours of today left ???
-
Maybe not for you Hally, but for a lot of the population who drive everywhere and have desk jobs, it is a lot ;)
-
Makes me tired just thinking about it :D
-
Ok :)
A food tip, when cooking as I hate mess on cookbooks etc.
My ipad & cookbooks are 4 steps away from my TM 5 from my stove top & oven.
:)
-
scarry
-
Ummmmm::)
-
Actually I walk a lot more than I realise.
Hanging out washing.
I put the basket on the wall, the line is too low, we just havent got round to adjusting it. Take one piece of washng out, walk round line & peg wasing on, i do this until the basket is empty. Sily me ;D
At 2pm I am up to 20,000 steps :)
:)
-
Great work Hally! :D
I went for an hour long walk around the boardwalk this morning, up and down the hills :) I did a Michelle Bridges DVD yesterday too so my legs were feeling it! ;D
Ummmmm::)
;D ;D ;D
-
Well I am glad I picked up the free hbf pedometer, I dont see the need in buying one.
Mine reset at 20,000 & at 4pm this afternoon had done over 5,000.
So 25,000 so ar, off in the pool now. I also noticed tat it ddnt pick up the rower at the gym as I am nt walking.
Amy, are you still doing your trainng course?
-
No, I withdrew from the course when I was really sick last year Hally :( I might pick it up again later, but for the moment I need to get a job and save up!! :D
I still have all the knowledge though, just no certificate yet ;)
-
Great work Hally. I'm trying to get back into the gym much more, I've only managed to do a few personal training session and a some walking while working such long crazy hours. It's so hard to fit everything I want to do in on top of working but I really need to get my head straightened out and back to exercise most days. Amy it's such a shame that you weren't able to keep up with the course. Did you end up getting everything sorted out? I think I might have stopped coming on here just as you were finishing up with all your tests. Hope you are back on the mend
-
Good one H.
Nice to see this thread popped up again.
When recovered from the lurgy I have a bike to test ride from a friend.
Anyone suggest a good free app on iPhone for pedometer. I am confused by what's on offer and if any good.
My previous phone did it brilliantly. When I used to ride m pony too 15k was the norm. I am hoping to get paid fr pony soon and if so and like the bike then I may spend it n that.
I am only getting a small sum as he failed the vet, unexpectedly with osteoarthritis. Still it is a good Home and one less bill. I can stop the insurance and sell the saddle. Sad but true.
Xx
-
It would be comforting to know your pony has a good home DJ :) bad luck about the osteoarthritis though
Marie
-
I was wondering the same thing Wonder about Amy - So Amy...did you get you health worries sorted? and do you want to share the results? Hope you are on the mend now... :-*
-
Thanks Wonder and astarra :) None of my tests came back conclusive so it was a bit of a guessing game treating the symptoms. I seem to be well on track now so I just have to keep and eye out and see if anything flares up again ;)
Thanks girls :-*
-
Thanks for the reply Amy... :-*
Hate it when they can't find what is causing problems. :-\
-
So do I astarra, but all the tests and needles were starting to really stress me out :-\ We figured it might be easier to treat the symptoms and give me a break. If I start getting the exact same symptoms again then we will already know what tests we don't have to do ;)
-
Fair enough :D :D :D
But please don't get sick like that again.... :-))
-
Only if you promise to take it easy when you have low blood pressure so you don't faint again.... :-)) ;D ;D ;D
-
Had to already promise DH I would do nothing...well, not much...today! :-))
But while I felt yuk physically, I think I felt worse emotionally as I felt like I hadn't looked after my girls very well by fainting! Silly I know but imagine if something had happened while I was out to it on the floor..... :o :(
-
I think you can forgive yourself astarra, fainting isn't really optional... if your body wants to do it, it'll do it :P
Were you out for very long? At least you were at home and not somewhere unfamiliar to the girls.
-
I really don't know how long - just know it was long enough to burn lunch!!!! :-))
Yeah, the first thing I heard when I came to was miss3 saying "shh, mummy's having a sleep - bit silly for her to have it on the floor tho, isn't it!" :D
-
Aww.... your girls are so cute :D Did they mind that you burnt lunch? Miss3 probably wouldn't even see the burnt bits under all the sauce! ;D
Would the girls know what to do if you fainted and hurt yourself? :-\
-
I cooked them some more lunch! :D
Miss6 would definately know what to do in an emergancy, miss3 might but I couldn't be confident on that (tho she does know how to ring DH's mobile so she would prob do that if needed) but miss2 would prob lie down beside me and suck her thumb!! :-))
-
Sounds like you're pretty well sorted! :-)) :D
-
my kids can ring on mobiles, Hope you are ok Astarra
-
Thanx Robyn - just lazing about on the couch with the laptop today! :)
-
sounds great, rest up..
-
Thanx Robyn - just lazing about on the couch with the laptop today! :)
Good to hear that Astarra.I'm watching you from thousands of miles away so take care :-* :-* :-*
-
Take care Astarra, your girls are such sweeties. ;D
-
Rest up and take care Astarra.
-
Thanx lovely ladies! :D
Another day of not much here as ..... I wasn't going to admit this to anyone, but the pain has got so DH realised and got another do-nothing promise out of me :-)) ..... I must have done something to my back when I fainted on Tuesday, which was sore for a start but has just got more and more painful as time has gone on!! :P :(
-
Oh no astarra! A back problem is the last thing you need! :( Have you got a heat pack you can put on it?
-
Look after yourself Astarra :)
-
That's not surprising astarra, a fall usually leaves us with aches, pains and bruises. Can you have some physio on your back to help things along a bit?
-
Look after yourself Astarra, as Judy says maybe it would be good to go and see an osteo, chiropractor or physio.
-
Have a heat pack on now, and a doc appnt tomorrow. :)
MIL has just come and got both the preschoolers so I can rest properally, she will also do the school run tonight. :-*
She realised this morning I had pain and had not had much sleep last night from it, so I am going to rest (hopefully sleep too) now. :)
-
take care
-
Oh Astarra I hope your back gets better soon, I had a slipped disc when pregnant with Lily embarrassingly I did it getting in the car so drove myself to the physiotherapist rang them from the car in the carpark because I couldn't get out :-[ and they came and rescued me, a few visits later and it was pretty good again
-
Mobile phones sure are handy aren't they Suzanne ;D
-
Oh dear Suzanne, that must have been awful :( Glad it only took you a few visits to get it better :) Those injuries can last a long time for some people :(
-
Very handy Judy
Amy I did the exercises that she gave me very seriously and did them with out fail plus visits every other day for 1wk and twice a week for the next 2 , touch wood no issues since still very embarrassing though unable to get out of a car with a very large belly in the way to boot
-
Physios love people like you who actually do the exercises Suzanne ;D I have spoken to physios who get very frustrated by people who can't be bothered doing their exercises and just want a quick fix :-))
-
Can I ask what the exercises were if you can remember Suzanne? Please? :)
My pain is right across the top of my back - thru the shoulderblades etc, so it even hurts to move my arms and head too much. >:( Where was your injury?
-
Amy, most people want a quick fix, and the cheapest price.
-
mine was just below the middle of my back and to be honest I can't really remember the exercises although I did have a long piece of stretchy something that I had to use also a heat pack, you really should if possible get into to see one they are very good and the sooner the better I think. its so hard astarra with others to care for hugs to you xxx
Amy I couldn't be laid up for a length of time getting the 3 older kids to school and running a house no time for injuries :-))
-
Sounds like good motivation to get better Suzanne ;)
Can I ask what the exercises were if you can remember Suzanne? Please? :)
My pain is right across the top of my back - thru the shoulderblades etc, so it even hurts to move my arms and head too much. >:( Where was your injury?
Sounds nasty astarra :( The doctor might give you some anti-inflammatory gel to rub in. If you get the good stuff it works really well :D
Amy, most people want a quick fix, and the cheapest price.
And even when it doesn't work, they don't learn :-))
-
Yes, most want a 5 minute fix,,,
stretches help too.
must give DH a massage today... :D
-
I would love a massage Robyn, I'm very stiff at the moment after long days at my desk for weekson end. Off for a walk now and Bikram Yoga this afternoon. It's good to be getting back to exercising.
-
You've been doing the Bikram Yoga for a while now, haven't you Wonder? Are you feeling much benefit from it?
-
is that the yoga that is done in a room with a certain temperature?
How is your back astarra?
-
Yes, I need my shoulder put back in, hopefully Monday or Tuesday.
I'll massage him today
-
Back seems to be getting better, until I twist or do something else that flares the pain up again. :(
Seems worse after sitting in the car for any more than 10mins ???
But at least I can move now! :)
-
Sounds like it's getting better very slowly Astarra, make sure you continue to take things easy.
Bikram is the yoga in the hot room. I've been doing it since Christmas but it takes up so much time I'm only getting there once a week unfortunately. I noticed a few improvements but then when I dropped back to once a week it's harder to feel the benefits. I'll keep going for a few more months and reasses then.
-
A shame you're only getting to the yoga once a week Wonder :-\ How many times per week is recommended for maximum benefit?
Astarra, we're keeping an eye on you, rest up until you feel completely better ;) ;D :-*
-
;) Resting is soooooo hard!!! :) :(
Am trying to be good as I want to heal properally.... it is hard to not be going hard out tho. :-))
I have swimming in a heated pool on Wed morning, hoping that helps! :D
-
That sounds like fun to me astarra, can I come :D :D
-
Yep - at the primary school 11am!!!! :D
-
sounds good Astarra.
-
Yep - at the primary school 11am!!!! :D
Awesome, but I might be a bit late!! ;D ;D
-
How are you all getting on?
Back to walking around the village again. Managed 45 mins brisk walk tonight. I have been increasing slowly for last two weeks or so.
My bad back is improving with Physio and I am back to doing a few exercises in the mornings.
Waiting to try a friend's bike, she is free on Fridays and it snowed last Friday and is forecast again for this Friday.
Crazy weather doesn't help. We have to go out with thick coat, hat scarf and gloves or freeze! The wind chill is terrible.
Keep it up everyone, we must encourage each other.
-
You're doing well DJ :D Don't worry if you go a bit slow, at least you're out there doing something. I'm glad to hear your back is getting better :)
I hope you get to try out the bike, cycling is fun and something a bit different from walking ;)
I'm getting back into swimming, which is crazy since we're just coming into colder weather, but I really enjoy it. A hot shower feels really good afterwards :D I have also been going walking with a friend once a week when both her kids are at school/daycare, but she is going on holidays next week for 5 weeks so I will have to find some other exercise to do on Mondays! :-))
I've been thinking about getting into something new but I can't decide what I would like to do :P
You're right DJ, we need to bump this thread more and support each other :)
-
we need to find something to do.
:)
drizzle here today, so no walking for me.
Our pool is heated, so hoping for sunny weather this weekend.
-
Its easy Robyn, you can do exercise anywhere :)
Swimming is really good and lots of fun :D
-
Love swimming Amy, just need to find time, after working 5 days a week.
-
First thing in the morning is a good time Robyn ;) And you have 2 days when you can exercise whenever you want ;D
-
So you want me to go swimming at 5am, i am up at 6am now to get ready with lunches, kids, for school, then work for me.... :)
-
I used to get up at 4:30am to walk to the gym, do a workout and walk home, then I'd get ready for college, walk to college, do my classes, walk home, do homework, cook dinner, then go to bed and do it all again the next day ;D
So yes, I want you to go swimming at 5am ;D
-
not when its raining Amy.....
-
Amy I'm all for getting up early and prioritising exercise and time for myself, but when you have all that you manage to fit in (which is a credit to you) plus the additional full time job of being a mother it's not always that easy.
Saying that Obbie, when my kids were smaller the only time I found i could fit in exercising was from 5.45am - 6.45am before launching into my day, definitely not easy but once I was home from work there was no way to get back out the door until after 9.30pm once dinner, dishes, baths, homework and bed routine were all over and then it was off to be for me!!!
Keep up the good work DJ, sounds like you are going really well after all your problems of late and I'm sure you will love it once you get the bike.
-
Wonder, I have to be up and gone at 7.50am to get kids to school, and me at work around 8am.
When you get home from work, then its cooking, kids, reading books, dishes ect.
In another world I was really slim... :D
-
I've taken over my husband's treadmill in the mornings to do about an hour of walking/running (I've just started doing the C 2 10k program...not sure if it will kill me) but I have to get up at 4.30 to find the time. It's no fun this fulltime working/full time motherhood lark and I have two teenagers not toddlers....and I have problems finding time to exercise. I don't know how mothers with younger children or more children do it. I'm forcing myself to do it because I've lost 43 kilos since October 2011 and I'm only 9kg from my ultimate goal so I'm very motivated...and very sick of it.
-
Well done staclee that's an amazing effort. I'm sure you'll succeed in the C 2 10k and you'll be so glad you persevered, just keep thinking of those last 9kg.
Obbie, i think i remember that other world - i weighed the same as I do now but there were lots of other things that were very different to now - leisurely breakfasts, reading the newspaper, watching a movie, no Friday night, saturday and sunday sport, the list goes on ;D
-
yes, which all goes when you have kids.... ;D
-
I very stupidly thought I would start to get some of that back once my kids were in their later teens....if anything it has gotten worse...I'm now a taxi service, atm, chef etc. Not to mention my bedroom seems to be central station with my brats needing to "talk" to me....usually at ungodly hours of the morning. Why can't I have normal teenagers who sleep in until lunch time instead of morning people who want to associate with me at 4.30 in the morning.
-
I agree Stacelee I actually think teens need you more, but in a less obvious way.
But remember this too will pass!
Keep up the good work everyone.
-
Thursday was only 22 min walk as so cold.
Yesterday 60 mins all around the village.
Plus keeping up my back exercises daily too so ;D for me!
-
Well done DJ! :D :D :D
I swam 2.5km this morning :)
-
Bumping this.
When we were holiday I swam every day.
Started with 10 lengths, 10 m pool ;D and end up with 30 mins continuous, several times day. Could feel the difference. The length was perfect as I do a length without breaths which suits my swimming style. Only breathed at ends on turn. If won lottery would put in a pool for sure, as well as Miele ovens!
Wanted to swim when came back but life seems to get in way of trip there and back, parking etc so have got out rebounder from garage.
Need to be strong for move and renovations and new life ( well in truth our old life back again) but you all know what I mean.
Today am up to 5 mins 3 x day. Have worked up slowly, am being careful so I don't ****** self up! LOL
Plus walking and chores of course, and will still try to swim.
Come on everyone help me to keep moving and tell me what you're all doing.
-
Jess, we have a pool, but its for drinking, nibbles, spa, not for laps.
;D ;D
Love swimming, but don't have any time for laps. wish i did.
i am going to start walking on weekends around the estate...
-
Try 15 mins at a time Robyn!
We'd love a pool but it'd have to be indoors, probably cost the same as a small house!!!!
-
I'm with you Robyn, I used to love swimming but these days ours is definitely for sitting around with drinks and nibbles.
-
I try and swim 3x a week, at our local leisure centre, have built it up to swimming 8 50m laps and walking 12 laps. I find the pool at home to small and now to cold much better for summer lazing with a G & T.
-
It's the G & T that keeps you slim Jeninwa. :)
-
Been away busy, Wednesday 2 hrs gardening and a lot of cleaning in an empty house.
Thursday a lot more cleaning.
Today over an hour walking.
Back to rebounder tomorrow.
-
I am going walking today, and cleaning the house..
That should keep me busy. :)
Then the cooking
-
It's the G & T that keeps you slim Jeninwa. :)
I'll second that!! ;D ;D
-
Rebounder and good walk today.
-
Went to the pool this morning and did some walking and exercise in the pool while DH swam laps. It felt good and met a nice lady to chat to while walking and jogging in the water.😃😃
-
Might try and fit a swim in later. Good out door pool 10 miles away. Sunny today - pool 30'.
Yup managed a good 30 minute swim of continuous widths. I like widths as I only breathe at each end and just head down and swim across. Had to wait to cross those doing lengths, but then had pool to myself!!
Plus 2 x 5 on rebounder. Just as well as not able to exercise today all. Lots of driving today.
-
Another swim n Thursday, 30 mins continuous swimming. I has the pool to myself!!!! FAB
2 walks yesterday 45min and 30 min.
Feel I am making progress which is good.
How's everyone else getting on. .
-
I am walking more, planning a half hour at least each day, and hope to fit in the pool this week
-
Worst week for a over a year - only 1 pt session and did only 1 6km fast walk with the dogs - they are going stir crazy!
-
Need to loose weight, I am so slack at the moment.
-
It doesn't seem to change my weight but improves fitness, muscle tone and I feel better for it. The endless bugs and lack of activity in the winter took a toll.
Since we are returning to our much more active lifestyle in about two weeks I felt it imperative to try to work up slowly to prevent injury etc .
I really feel an improvement and recommend everyone to try if they can. I know Amy would agree.
-
Yes Jess, I am going to move my trainer in front of the spare TV, for when I watch my Cooking shows...
Hopefully that will help me for at least 30 minutes a day :D
-
25 mins swimming non stop today. The pool was cooler so missed off my last 5 mins. Figured 25 mins good enough and better than nothing.
Rebounding later in socks. Not walking far today as had sore soles of feet last night from the races!
Swim again thurs and/or fri.
-
You are going great Jess, you must really be feeling the benefits now and I'm sure it will help you a lot with the new more active lifestyle.
Robyn, every bit counts an if you can do some exercise while enjoying a show that's even better.
I'm sure Amy will be pleased to know how well you are going and be encouraging you to get in any extra movement you can.
I need to start back at doing some Yoga, my muscels were so inflexible this morning and I'm having troubles with quite a few sore spots.
-
It works, Have moved it in front of the TV on the deck..
-
No stopping you now Robyn.
I'm hoping for a night walk with the dogs tonight. DH doens't like me walking in the dark so looks like he might have to make the effort and come with me!
-
Sounds good Wonder. DH and I go walking together when we can. Lovely to have his company, especially now I don't walk Harry Hound. :'(
-
Didn't get the walk in unfortunately.
-
Never mind Wonder, they'll be another day.
Managed rebounding and back exercises today, and packed some boxes!
Tomorrow I am in the car all day.
-
An hours walk, morning exercises and rebounder once.
Maybe swimming tomorrow if lucky.
-
Missed my walk yesterday, but will go today, makes me feel so much better
-
Well done DJ. I haven't really got my exercising mojo back this week unfortunately will just have to force myself to do it.
-
The weather is helping here but I am finding that persevering every day with my exercises and being more active has reenergised me.
What I do is based on the Canadian airforce regime.
You can find out about it here http://fit450.com/HTML/XBX_Intro.html
Note exercise 5 needs adapting to modern ( research/h and s) requirements. Raise knees and have feet flat on floor then do partial sit ups.
There are age appropriate suggestions and it does work. I am building up to my goal level 11, and do FEEL stronger and more Flexible. I do reccomend them, they are easy to remember and you can start with 3 of each. I have done them on and off all through my life, I just need to try do them always if I can.
The rebounder helps too. I just do 5 mins at a time as many times as I can, sometimes only once.
So today already done exercises and rebounder once. (Yesterday the same) Hope to swim later, now back to the filing!!!!
Good luck everyone, you can do it.
Edited to say swimming swopped for walk with DH today. Found some very steep steps that challenged the legs and lungs!
-
my trainer is working in front of the tv. (today)
-
Well done Robyn, keep it up.
-
Thanks for the exercise link, I will print out and I WILL use them 😄😄👍
-
Go for it rainbow, it makes you stronger and fitter.
I use a good rebounder for the last part, and for extra cardiovascular work too.
Today usual am routine plus packed 5 boxes and 45 minute walk with hills.
Tired tonight as DH alarm went off at 5.30.
-
Just updating this thread.
Until a lurgy struck I'd been doing my exercises faithfully at least 5 or 6 times a week all through the move. I've had a 5 day lurgy break, but as the shocking streamer has subsided Almost as fast as it came on, I will be back on them tomorrow. I did a few today when I felt creaky in the kitchen.
However I am out with the puppy several times a day, I do lots of large scale gardening, varying the tasks if any become too much, or I get sore. There is always plenty to do. I have pruned barrow loads since arriving here.
I am so glad I persevered with trying to be physically strong as the transition from our dormant year in a wee village house to a farm and garden would have been a challenge! If I won the lottery I'd put a small covered pool in!
How are you all getting on?
-
nothing at the moment, but once its the weekend, i will be making a huge effort...
-
Sounds like you have been going really well Jess. I've been trying to increase to at least 20 minutes everyday (from 1hr 4 days). On the days not at the gym I've been walking to dogs for at least 1/2hr so going really well. Looks like DH will also be starting work full time soon so things will be even more hectic so I want to be on top of things as much as possible before then.
-
That's really good Wonder, you are going great too. ;D
-
Hi Jess, wonder.
\I got to get fitter, and loose weight. o here goes he journey
7 kilos is the first goal :)
-
I'll join you Robyn, lost the plot for awhile, really need to get fit and lose some more weight, my goal is 5kg in 5 weeks. Then we are away on our trip. Still can't swim, but have started walking and back at curves.
-
You can do it Jen and Robyn, it is hard work and takes will power and dedication but definitely worth it. I've been walking the dogs much more over the last 6 months and when they went for their annual checks today the vet commented on how much he loved seeing healthy dogs in the correct weight range as these days they are mostly overweight :-[
-
I've been walking for 30 min 3 times this week and have been to curves once and hope to go tomorrow. I downloaded the app run keeper so I know how far I have walked.
-
Well done Jeninwa.
I missed the exercises yesterday but managed again today. Now we have to do the cow in the mornings it's a bit of a struggle time wise but I find it best to do the ten minutes before breakfast as it loosens me up fr the day. Sometimes if I'm very stiff I start them on the bed to get going then move to the floor.
Walking the pup and doing lots of gardening every day. A variety of tasks from pruning to hand weeding and hoeing so lots of bending and stretching. We've been lucky with the weather so that helps. I guess in the winter I'll be decorating too for bending and stretching.
I can truly feel the difference so it is worth trying to keep it up. It means the body copes with knocks better too. I had a horrid lurgy but only 48hrs was difficult, and I am sure being stronger has helped my immune system too.
Keep up the good work everyone ;D
-
Keep up the good work Jess and Jen. I've been pretty good this week and have had new programs written at the gym to help with a recurring neck/shoulder problem so need to get used to the different exercises.
-
My kids are taking me walking in the morning, as weekends are my only time I have..
-
Robyn thats great that the kids are interested. It's always been a struggle to drag mine along and because I walk so fast these days I much prefer going on my own most of the time so I really feel like I'm getting a workout.
-
I have got a pedometer as I am on the go almost all day long and I wanted to know approx what I was clocking up.
Opened and set it at 3pm today, did 7.500 steps by bedtime (5.4km/ 3.3 miles) I think I'll easily do the required 10,000 steps/ day. The weight ive gained doesn't shift though... Age related methinks.
Will update every so often.
Does anyone else have a pedometer?
-
I have one Jess, just a basic one.
yes, 10,000 steps is easy to do on a weekend, when I am running around.
we have a 2 story home, so up and down steps helps me a bit. :)
Wonder, the kids love walking with me..
-
I find it too slow walking with the kids - and they lose interest pretty fast. Hopefully as it gets warmer I can convince them to walk down to the beach a bit more. Or maybe they can scooter/bike and I can walk/jog.
I have a fitbit for my pedometer - I did once have a basic one and it was okay, but I am liking that I can wear this one all the time so I'm not forgetting to put it on in the morning.
I've been quite amazed how many steps I can get in just around home - as long as I don't sit on the computer all day, that is...my work days are not great.
I think I'll be feeling my leg muscles tomorrow after going along with DD's kindy to an indoor playground place and climbing up the big slides & ramps etc all day. I am REALLY tired! Had a lot of fun though.
-
Sounds great Jo.
4,000 steps already today.
Ok 9800 tonight (7km/ 4.3miles!) and seemingly most of them up and down stairs unloading van with DD belongings. .....
-
I'm up to a little over 4000 today an it's 1.30pm - not too bad for spending the morning in the office :) Not sure how much I'll get in this afternoon though - DD is sleepy, then it's school pickup and off to DS's miniball game (so just sitting on the sidelines).
I managed 12000 steps yesterday! And seriously climbing the bouncy-castle-type ramps etc was more of a workout than I anticipated. DD was so tired after it all that she fell asleep straight after dinner - still in her clothes! And I felt like I could do the same. ;)
Ok 9800 tonight (7km/ 4.3miles!) and seemingly most of them up and down stairs unloading van with DD belongings. .....
So, DJ, plenty of weights with the shifting too!
-
Yes Jo, hadn't thought of that, well done.
Some of my steps are uphill through long grass and that really makes the leg muscles work!
-
It might sound daft but since getting a fitbit (and confirming how many steps I DON'T do each day) I've been looking for quick wins. When I brush my teeth I jog on the spot. Dough goes for two minutes in thermie so I jog on the spot. Cleaning out thermie with the soapy water trick, jog on the spot. You get the idea. Amazing how many extra steps you do and calories you burn whilst moving at times when you'd normally stand still
Waiting for kettle to boil...
Waiting for tea to brew...
DH thinks I've gon mad 😉
-
Well, it would look rather funny Bonsai but it it makes you fitter it's worth it.
-
Sounds cool Bonsai
9000 today, such torrential rain when we got home that I'd did not go out for proper walk, instead played with puppy in garden, it was even too wet for him!!
-
Since I got the Fitbit on the 6th of August I've walked over 362km. At the moment with walking my daughter to school and back its easy for me to hit or get close to the recommended 10k steps, without doing an additional walking but most days I go out for an additional hour walk.
I drop DD off at 7:45ish and then walk for hour ending at home, though a few times now I've gone for 90 minutes to 2 hours (60 mins is roughly 5-7km depending on speed, 90ms was roughly 8.7km and 2 hours was 12.85km). However I imagine this will all start to drop off over the coming months as it gets colder and snow starts to fall. Then I'll need to find another way to get the walking in, possibly the gym but its expensive if I only want to go there for walking for 4-5 months in a year.
That said, rain has already scuppered me a couple of times though I went out on Sunday, got wet after 10 minutes, came home and into different rain gear before going out again for another 35 minutes :)
-
Dog training today so I haven't quite met my target 10k, but the dog had lots of other dogs to run with!
-
Wow, Rob that's good going with the kms! I just cracked 500km this week - got my fitbit in June though, so you will overtake me soon enough at that rate.
I find the days I walk DS to school are pretty easy to clock up the 10k steps - but today I dropped the kids off in the car before going straight to work and sitting at my desk.
We had some wild stormy weather this week (140k winds the other day!) so haven't really got out much - sometimes I'm tempted to look into a treadmill, but I think it would just be a large ornament most of the time.
-
Congrats Jo, 500KM is a long old way :) My most recent lifetime distance is 448.13km, though I know its a bit higher due to Fitbit not measuring the same distance as Runkeeper. (Like today there is about 1-1.3km discrepancy between Runkeeper & Fitbit)
Do you, or anyone else, want to friend on Fitbit for encouragement/competition? I'm tarasis over there.
Just done a 11.67km walk after dropping DD at school and finally had some breakfast. Was about 4 hours after walking up before I actually eat breakfast. Wasn't hungry while walking :)
-
Hey that's great Tarasis and Jo. I am glad this thread is going good again.
Am managing 10 k steps with my normal day easily. Haven't gardened all week, so think when I go back to gardening it will increase as well as we have a big garden.
Sorry only have pedometer as wanted rough idea of what I do, but don't have time or money for fitbit, but its good to hear about others. I do around 5 miles a day in my normal activities.
Do please Keep posting its great to encourage each other.
-
Had a slow few days - drove up to mum's yesterday, so didn't think my 8000 was too bad considering I just sat in a car for 3+ hours of the day. I did spend a good bit of time in mum's garden yesterday collecting 12 bags of grapefruit! And the kids had a great time - we have a tiny section here, so they love running around her back yard and exploring the "forest"
Tarasis, sorry I'm not that great at navigating fitbit, and not sure where to find you!! But THIS (http://www.fitbit.com/user/264Z4G) is me ;D
DJ, I have been finding it quite reassuring that I can clock up 10k steps without too much trouble - I used to think I didn't do any activity because I don't really do sports or go to the gym, but actually LIFE is busy and fairly active, and I like seeing that show with my steps 8)
-
Tarasis, sorry I'm not that great at navigating fitbit, and not sure where to find you!! But THIS (http://www.fitbit.com/user/264Z4G) is me ;D
Nope no need to apologise, I mistakenly thought there was an easy way to invite by knowing user ids but I was wrong :/ it's either via Facebook, email address or as you've done posting you public page. So invite sent :)
For anyone else THIS (http://www.fitbit.com/user/274ND9) is me.
-
Today is the lowest amount of steps that I've taken since getting a Fitbit. I managed a paltry 1269 steps. The second lowest I've managed was 3200, everything else has been above 10k.
I think we can mark today as a lazy day :)
-
I had a good day, but forgot to change the pedometer over when I changed trousers! However I know from the weeks tracking it'd have been over 10k steps.
Picked up loads of pears from the tree, but as we have gales the links covered again. Good thing the cow likes fruit! So does the dog!
See what tomorrow brings!
Good luck Tarasis and Jo. We can all have lazy days!
-
Maybe I did some of your steps, Rob - yesterday was over 10k after 4 days of not quite making it. I had a very lazy Sunday the previous Sunday - good to have them now and then, just not too often. ;)
Hopefully getting back on track now after a run of sicknesses and bad weather.
DJ - the dog likes pears!?! :D
We've done lots of grapefruit juicing in the last couple of days, and also stewed a couple of bowlfuls (tmx bowls) of rhubarb - yum!
-
Yup the dog eats pears very carefully in his laws nibbling and leaving the cores. He is a picky feeder and takes all day to eat his dog food. We have tried about 6 varieties now .... But pears are nibbled on and off all day!
-
Almost 11,000 steps today. Over 5 miles, I like that thought! I think I like the pedometer as a comfort thing to know I am active enough on most days.
-
I find it amazing how much I can clock up some days without even leaving home! Got to just over 9000 yesterday - DS went to a friends after school so I missed out my 3pm trip to school, which would definitely have got me there.
It's a beautiful day here today, so I think i might have to head out along the Esplanade for a walk. ;D
-
I have an app on my phone called "mapmyrun" although I never run anywhere :D :D I find it useful to see how far I walk with Chance.
-
Nice, I don't think I would manage that much just pottering around the house. I don't do as much house stuff as I should and tend to collapse on the sofa. You probably did steal some of my steps the other day :)
That said my walking has been fine, went a little overboard yesterday and my morning walk ended up being 12.7km. By the end of the day I was on 26k steps, and 20.17km walked. Which was enough to get my my 500km badge and also my 50 flights of stairs in one day badge. Taking it slightly easier today and only walked about 6km.
@Doverjess I would never imagine a dog would eat pears, but then I wouldn't imagine the dog to eat a pair of glasses either which a friends puppy apparently did on Sunday. (Dog appears to be okay thankfully)
I have an app on my phone called "mapmyrun" although I never run anywhere :D :D I find it useful to see how far I walk with Chance.
I use Runkeeper for the same sort of thing but I don't run either. I just use it for the audio cues every 5 minutes to get a sense of pace, time and distance. I tried MapMyRun but didn't like it, bought WalkJogRun the other day for its route creation feature so I can get a quick feel for how long a route might take me if I took it.
-
My DH downloaded for me Rob :D I'll keep in mind the one you prefer ;)
-
Slight lapse in daily exercises due to no rug on bedroom floor. Must try to do them again.
Fewer steps today too as fetching sheep. Tomorrow also long time in car. Essential.
-
Likewise, only did 4.5k steps yesterday and until 8pm Saturday I only had 1.2k (though then I was out to make sure I got over the 10k).
Also lapsed a bit eating wise the last few days, eating about my theoretical intake as opposed to a 1000 calorie deficit. Plus a few more days drinking coke :/
Aiming for none today!
-
Actually did quite well today despite 5 hrs in car. Gave dog good run before we went and then stripped wallpaper and cleared up tonight so lots of bending and stretching.
Edited for typo!
-
Thumbs Up Droverjess!
-
Thanks rob.
Back to over 10k steps today, and managed so exercises this am. Little steps again it seems life gets in the way of healthy things!
-
I apparently have been doing progressively less each day for the last three days. 26k, 20k, and 16k today though that is largely a product of the poor weather.
The walking is improving my fitness a bit, I manage to run yesterday for 0.5km without stopping which is quite an improvement. Still don't enjoy running or the feeling of my body as it bounces up and down.
-
good walking going on
-
Almost 9km (5.3 miles) today just on the place and around the house and garden, plus a wee trip to Aldi. Amazing.
-
Well done DJ and Tarasis, it's great being able to see how active you are and increase where needed. Tarasis, thats a lot of km's each day - well done.
-
Another 10k+ day today and yesterday was even more. I am beginning to be able to tell by how tired I feel.
-
I got to just over 13K yesterday, after a bit of a slow week (most days 8-9k)
Rob, I am impressed with your running - I can only go maybe 100m at a time still!
School holidays are here now, so will be interesting to see how that goes. I'd like to take the kids out to Zealandia (bird sanctuary) which will involve a fair bit of walking, and likewise the zoo. But the rest of the days could be a struggle. Will have to make sure we walk down to the school playground or the local park a few times.
Only a couple more months until the outdoor pool around the corner reopens after major renovations.
-

That's a lot of walking. I too didn't like running, but 12 weeks ago I was determined to try. Started with 2min run, 3min walk, repeated for 30minutes. It nearly killed me, but three months on, three runs a week and I can do 4km in 30 minutes without stopping. Just remember baby steps and something is better than nothing. Congratulations on all your success to date xox
-
Wow Kimmy that is wonderful, well done. That puts my 10k steps into context.
I do a wee jog now and then up or down the field in dog catching or distracting mode but running has never been for me!
Less walking today but 2 hrs stripping wallpaper, ore of that tomorrow.
-
keep up the good work.
-
Have been on the to all day. Stripping wallpaper, moving stuff round the house, thorough clean of three bare rooms with floorboards ready for next bit.
Only 6000 steps, am amazed, it clearly only measures walking, am pooped tonight.,
-
DJ, yes, it's sometimes a shame it doesn't always reflect overall activity. I've been tidying up our garage (AKA junk zone) and I'm tired already, and it's only 11am! Hope you sleep well for it.
-
Well almost 10k again tonight and lots of ironing. Am pooped!.
Had a little accident last night in the dark fell into a small trench while too busy looking at the amazing stars, no light pollution here. Serves me right, Big bruises on left anterior thigh and stiff and tired all over.
-
Blimey DJ take care. :o I hope you recover from your bruises soon :-*
-
take care Jess.
-
I never knew star gazing could be dangerous, take care.
-
Stand still next time DJ, hope your aches and pains go away soon. The stars must have been something else for you to forget to look where you were stepping.
-
Oh dear DJ, I hope you're feeling better :( :-*
I'm so proud of you all, keep up the awesome work :D
I've been walking when I can, between work and other things. Been having some trouble with shin splints though :P
-
That's not good Amy. I think you fix them by weeing on them.....or is that chillblains? Mmm can't remember, but it can't hurt :P ;)
-
LOL Kimmy, I thought you wee on jellyfish stings??? ??? :o :-)) ;D
Or maybe wee is the magic cure for everything ;)
-
Am ok thanks. Few bruises, mainly softish landing with one fairly large rock that made the biggest bruise.
I will be still next time JD don't worry. Next time I need my iPad to tell me which is which. They were very bright.
Almost 10k steps today and lots of vacuuming of sawdust, 2 hours in fact!
-
How are you going Jess.
-
Thanks for asking.last few days 1200 to 1300 steps and that's just around the house mainly with dog walks added in, but not long ones as couldn't leave the crew.
Am very tired, a cumulative tiredness.
Wil
Be ok
-
Jess, you are one awesome lady. ;D ;D ;D ;D
I so admire all the work you are doing, renovating the house, looking after DH, and dogs.
trying to renovate, keep it all together. Cant wait for photos of the finished project.
:) :)
-
DJ, Hope the bruises are fading, please take it easy. :-*
-
Thanks Emme and Obbie! am not awesome at all, just trying to settle and make a home, isn't that what most women do?
Am resting on my bed just now with a heater on to add a little comfort. Room is better with new window, warmer less draughts.
DD just leaving for the week at Uni?
DH gone to test some equipment.
Have no tv and have not sorted living room as new window goes in there Monday. Not worth effort to do it twice. DH away tomorrow overnight for work so I don't need do any food and can have boiled eggs for me.
Going to try a new dog trainer on 22 nd. Need a varied approach I think.
Cheers
-
Last few days well over 10k steps.
13800 today!
-
Well done DJ, you are keeping everything together amazingly well.
-
Great DJ
-
Still lots of steps, almost 12k today.
Have started using polyfilla, in preparation for painting.
-
Once the painting starts DJ, the place will come to life - it's amazing how your dream is taking shape.
-
Thanks Judy, we still have no heating, and have been very lucky with the mild weather.
-
Didn't manage so well with my steps the last two weeks with the kids on Holidays. Particularly as I've started a German course (3 hours a day, 5 days a week), I'm aiming to get back up to 10k a day. Weight has been largely stable (not really up or down) these last few weeks.
-
Good luck with the German ......
All my steps have had no effect on weight, I just feel fitter.
-
Well, I joined the gym last week!! :o
DH decided to give up his membership as summer is coming and the upgraded pool around the corner from us is due to open next month. So I've taken it on instead.
Not helpful that now DS has come out with chicken pox so I am stuck at home!! But in the longer term it should be good. It's right by our office (literally 3 doors down the road) so not out of my way. I've been a couple of times already, and mainly used the cardio machines - haven't had my official "orientation" yet where they show me all the weights machines etc - I was a gym member elsewhere back before having kids, so not totally unfamiliar, but could use a run-through on using them.
I haven't found I've lost weight either. I think I need to improve the diet side more if I want to see much happen there. Very glad summer is coming as I enjoy salads and BBQ meats.
-
Rob, great that your weight has stayed stable even without the extra exercise, I assume you must be keeping pretty much to the reduce soft drink etc.
Jo_nz it's hard to fit it all in with kids and work but I'm sure you will be glad you've joined once you are able to get into a routine. I'm in a little bit of a slump with my gym and wallks at the moment but still maintaining at least a couple of times a week plus a few fast dog walks. Need to start thinking about my diet a bit more though, I've never bothered much in the past.
-
I don't normally post on this thread but I did once join a gym whilst on a weight watchers diet way back in the 70's after having the girls. I was as skinny as a rake pre-childbirth and I hate exercising but quite enjoyed myself once I made the effort to go there. My problem is I cannot do both - it's either diet or exercise with me. After all that exertion I'd go home and all I wanted to do was eat :-)) So now I do what I like doing best - eating but eating more carefully.
-
Judy I've never dieted or watched my weight but have been pretty active and fit since starting running and at the gym in the last 10 years. I've never enjoyed exercise but do like the feeling of being fit and really don't want to have to diet.
-
You look great Wonder, keep doing what you're doing. I'm a bit past it now, my knees wouldn't hold me up for running or riding bikes and I figure they'll last longer if I look after them and don't expect too much of them ;D
-
How is everyone going.
DJ how are you.. ;)
-
JD I have very arthritic knees and find bike riding really beneficial. There is no impact and it is fun to ride with a friend or down to the shop etc. you don't need a sports bike or anything too expensive. Give it a go. People in Europe ride for all thir live no matter how young or old.
-
I did try riding my DD's bike Bootobethin but it was murder unfortunately and I was lucky to be able to get around the block.
-
Hi Obbie thanks for asking
Just a hit bogged down and hurt my back last week.
Getting better but having a forum break until I get back on track.
Xxx
-
I try to go 3-5 times per week. Also walk to school & back if we can :)
-
DJ take care with your back..
:)
-
Well I am the proud owner of an UP band. I am very interested how I track for a week or so without doing anything extra, just my usual gym & walking to school etc. I am very interested in my sleep as I am tired a lot. Last night I slept 7h44mins & was awake on,y 19 mins which is far better than I thought I had. Also when I have a day in the kitchen I reckon I walk heaps, be interesting to see how I pan out, then I can up the anti with exercise etc :)
Everyone still using their bands?
-
How interesting Hally, keep us posted.
I need to walk more but the weather is way too bad.
-
I charged the band and put it on at 5pm, went to bed at 9.30pm & in that short time did 2,256 steps, which to me at that time of the day I am inactive. So I am very interested to see.
:)
-
Great Hally you will love it.
I loved my Fitbit (until I lost it awhile ago :(). I'm actually thinking of buying myself a new one.
I don't know how the UP band compares with the Fitbit, but I found the Fitbit was excellent at tracking steps & calories burnt, but the sleep tracking wasn't accurate. I sleep terribly and have had a sleep study in hospital to confirm this, but my Fitbit always said I had a much better sleep than I actually did.
-
I haven't used the Fitbit sleep tracking in a while - if I used it on normal setting, it basically told me I fell asleep the moment I put it in sleep mode, until I turned it off in the morning, which sadly is not the case. In sensitive mode it is more accurate for me, but I found it made me feel worse to see how little sleep I was getting!
I find the 5-8pm time quite busy - until the kids are in bed! It's quite an eye opener to see how many steps you actually do. I'll be interested to see how you find it at the gym, Hally - mine doesn't seem to register much activity there at all! Great for walking though, and has made me more conscious of getting those extra little bits of movement in my days, just walking to school and kindy more etc.
I'm glad to have the kids back at school/kindy - I hardly got to the gym over the holidays, although more other activities with the kids - biking, swimming, walking, playing! ;)
But I've gone and hurt my knee at the gym (I assume) and not feeling happy today. Hopefully it will ease off quickly.
I'm a bit late spotting you comment about bike riding Judy, but my mum found the same - she borrowed my bike for a while but it made her already bad knees feel even worse. Aqua-jogging she has some success with, but I know she's struggling more and more now, and her hip has joined the party now too.
She's had some success recently with steroid injections to her knees, but waiting to see the specialist. Expecting an operation soon-ish.
Hoping my sore knee today isn't a sign of things to come ;)

Great Hally you will love it.

I chose UP over fit it as it is more accurate in sleep monitoring which was what i was really after. It tracks deep sleep, light sleep, time awake etc. I was awake for 19mins in the night.
Jo, will let you know, off to,the gym today. Yes its nearly impossible to get to the gym in the holidays, but the kids keep you moving. Funny how we are all different, after 6pm I am not active, ds is 10 so he does everything himslef these days :)
-
Poor Mum Jo, looks like she really needs that op. Aqua bike riding is great, I did some whilst down at the kids' place on two consecutive weeks and next morning my calves really let me know about it :D
-
Off to school driving today as going to,gum. So,far my getting up rotuine has been 946 steps.
-
I always put my fitbit on as its become the norm for me. Exercise is not the norm for me tho, but I always look and see have many steps I do in a day. Not easy when you HAVE to sit at a computer all day. If you want to track your sleep a great little app to download is Smart Alarm
-
Thanks cp will look into,that.
It is 11.50am & I have done just under 5,000 steps, so nearly at 50% this morning with the afternoon and evening to go.
:)
-
ooops, looks like my fitbit went flat last night without me realising, so didn't record all of yesterday, and now at 5pm today, I'm up to 350 steps!
CP, I first had a pedometer when I worked in an office all day, and usually only managed around 3,500 steps a day, including walking to/from the train station and a little walk at lunch. Computer work really is no conducive to being active!
-
Oh well jo, never mind.
I was going to walk to school, but its hot & cp has an hour of swimming training later. So by not walking that will reduce my steps >:(
-
I must be making up for it today - already been to school and back twice this morning. We got there and then decided to go to assembly, but DD wanted to get a snack box, so came home and grabbed a few things and then headed back. 4,685 steps already and it's only morning tea time.
My knee was feeling pretty good this morning, but I think I am pushing it a little. Nothing else on now until school pickup, so will take it easy.
-
Jo glad your knee is feeling better. You are right about the gym, it didnt seem to register at all. I spent an hour on the treadmill & it was inly 1700 steps!!
Anyway my day was 9824 steps which is good as I did gym work.
Today no gym, see how it registers today. Its great to see what you do in a day.
:)
-
To school & back is 3,880 steps, so thats good when I do morning and afternoons :) at 8.32am I am at 4,244 steps :D
-
My DH and I try to walk at least 5 days a week, and the fact that we both enjoy that time once we get out of the house ( not always easy) keeps us going. I'm sure the only reason we can keep it up is because we do it together.
The motivation soon disappears if you have to do it on your own. I also go to a Heart Moves class twice a week when babysitting doesn't get in the way.
Good luck to all you lovely ladies in your quest to stay fit and healthy. :)
-
I'd walk if I had a dog but it just doesn't appeal to me doing it on my own. I don't want to be tied to the house with an animal at this stage though, I'm enjoying being able to come and go as I please after being restricted for so long. Maybe when I'm in my 90's a dog night be good company ;)
-
JD, you must love your free time :)
Katj, well done :)
Over 7,000 steps at 1pm today :)
-
Well done on your 7000 steps so far today Hally. :)
-
Yesterday I did 12,353 steps which to me was a normal day. Today I am at the gym but it didnt really register it last time ???
The UP has told me to increase my goals, I will next week, sunday I wont be wearing it & monday I am at the dentist for 2 hours doing part 10 - well it seems that way of my stupid tooth >:(
-
Well done everyone.
I have been doing lots of painting, several hours a day, as well as looking after the animals. Lots of bending and stretching but less walking.
-
Yesterdays steps 8084. I was on a course for 3 hours where I didnt really move at all. I can understand how hard it woukd be for people sitting at a desk all day to reach 10,000 steps.
Not wearing it today as at a water park, lots of walking there :)
-
I wish i could do that many steps in a day, at work..
-
Maybe you could get up every 15 minutes and take a walk out the front of the shop when your not busy.
-
Perhaps walk around when you're on the phone and check the stock or something. It all helps.
-
Cookie, have you charged your fitbit?
Found on UP there are different forms of exercise you can put in, so thats great news :)
Spent 2.5 hours in the dentists chair today >:( so nit looking promising for steps.
-
Yes Hally I have charged it up a bit. I've also linked it to the iPad. At the moment I do something and go and look at it. I have also put all my days food in. It will make me keep track of what I eat.
-
Yes, I get up and walk around the shop, talk to people next door.
-
Maybe you could buy a skipping rope :)
-
Yesterday I recorded the most steps so far 13,262 9.59kms. Sleep, I was awake for 1 hr 40 mins, woke up 4 times, but as
i went to bed early, still managed 7.30 hrs :)
Love all the i fo.
How are you going Obbie & Cookie & Jo NZ :)
-
Well done Halley! Keep up the good work. :)
-
We got a dog 12 months ago, and I have lost 12 kg and the only thing I have done different is walking, I walk 30 to 40 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening, every day 7 days a week , even in winter and have never felt so good. I wonder how much more I would lose if I stop drinking ;D
-
Thanks Katj, yesterday instead of the car I walked everywhere, was pretty tired last night ;)
Thermo18, walking is great & its free :)
-
Doing reasonably well - now that school is back there is a bit more walking on a regular basis. I find my weekend step counts are a bit low, but then I did have a sore knee last week & into the weekend, so was taking it easy.
I made it to the gym this morning (first time this week - just flat out catching up with work), so feeling pretty good about that, and a school mum friend (our kids played miniball together last year, and are now in same class, and her youngest is at kindy with mine) was also there - we didn't know we went to the same gym, so that's potentially a motivation booster. Good to have a gym buddy.
-
I have new walking shoes, and the kids are encouraging me.
I have been walking on weekends, but need to do more than 2 days a week.
-
I love it Hally. I have it all linked to My fitness pal. I put my food in there and it synchs with the fitbit. The sleep just proves that I sleep well. I may be awake for 2 minutes or so during the night. Last night DH asked me if the band had lights on it as he noticed them come on when I went to the toilet. :D I am not walking enough but it will improve.
I wish I hadn't bought the flex as I am finding it hot in this weather, even though it is on quite loosely. But it is too late now.
I'd like to lose a few kilos that I have put on over the last 5 or 6 years. I won't be slim but I will be me.
I eat healthy food, just too much of it. :D :D :D :-\ :-\
-
I love my up band cookie. I find that I make more of an effort to walk, well yesterday I did as I wanted to see how far & steps I coukd do if I didnt take my car.
I dont add my food, way too scared to do that atm ;) i love food & wi e ;D
Might or might not, I just want to make sure I am fit & healthy :)
-
I do the food bit as I want to lose a few kilos. Especially before I go to Tassy. Also some of my jeans don't like me anymore. :-\ :-\
-
Well done girls. Keep it going.
