Title: Hoisin Sauce
Post by: sue_h on June 29, 2011, 01:32:24 am
Finally posted my Hoisin Sauce recipe on the recipe community today. It's great with all sorts of stirfries and for marinating shredded pork for steamed pork buns.

Aha, bless you, that looks great except here in the UK we don't generally have the EDC so I'm forum hunting the sweet chilli sauce now

Many thanks

Thank you all. I shall have a bash at these over the Christmas break. My "pantry" needs a good stock up of stocks, tikka paste and sauces.  I'm often frustrated when I want a nice stir fry that I don't have any home made sauces and have to open a packet that is probably more preservative than anything else ...

Thanks everyone for your help. I have the sweet chilli sauce cooking on the tmx now. The chillis I'm using Are really hot - I've only put in 4. It's possible, tho', that I've got the wrong ones .... What are large chillis?

Another question I'm afraid. The hoisin sauce asks for soy sauce - is this light or dark?  I'm assuming dark as its the most commonly used soy sauce.

Thanks

Nikxx

Dark sauce generally used in Hoisin sauce making Nik and large red chillies are just that - large ones are milder as compared to the small hot ones.

Just saw some of the questions. Looks like my posting is like my cooking. I use lots of substitutes. In this case it was dark soy sauce (sometimes I also use tamari). As for the chilli sauce maybe you could just use chopped chilli. That's the joy of the Thermomix, use what you have and you'll get something similar (not identical) and possibly even better than the original.

Oh. My. Goodness!

I made this a week or so ago to keep in the fridge.  Am shattered tonight and needed a quick, easy meal.  Chopped up some chicken and marinading in the hoisin sauce.  TMX'd the rice, chopped some veg and stir fried.

I can't even begin to say how delicious it was for such a soddin' minimal effort

Thank you, thank you, thank you

 ;D ;D ;D

where abouts do you live nik2win

I'm in Hampshire in the UK

We live in a large village - I'm not sure how they define "large" but our nearest decent supermarket is 10 miles away.  We have a smallish supermarket in the village (also several pubs, a butchers and a post office but no bank) but it has limited choice and is expensive.  We have a really great farm shop a couple of miles away.  Great as in lovely produce but also expensive.

Glad you enjoyed it Nik. I often pull it out to give things a bit of flavour.

Sue made this last weekend and we LOVE it!!

Out of curiosity ... how long does it keep for? Contemplating if I need to freeze some of it (gosh I will need 3 freezers like Hally soon!)

I made this today (full amount) and it filled a 700g? bottle that Passata comes in.  I was surprised that there was no actual cooking for this.  Tastes great.  :D

I have to ask the same question as Faffa - how long does this last, anyone know?

My first lot lasts a while. I can't really remember how long. After that I just reduced the amounts because I was running out of large bottles. Can't see why freezing won't work though.

Thanks Sue  :)

I use wine bottles to store larger amounts of sauce, cordial etc in  :D No wine bottle makes it to my bin in this house. I remove the foil bit from inside the lid and then wash and sterilise as per normal  ;)
