Chit Chat / Re: Menu Planning
« on: December 29, 2011, 05:28:59 am »
I love menu planning with my family. We are usually on and off menu planners and it's really only when I need some inspiration in the cooking area. Everyone in my family picks 2-3 meals that covers beef, lamb, seafood, fish, chicken, vegetarian. I can then play with the recipes to suit. If we have sushi or spaghetti everytime that's OK. At least they'll eat it and enjoy it. I've also just found this great menu planning app for apple products - menu_planner. It's really easy to import recipes - mainly from mainstream recipes sites at the moment. I contacted the developer and he said that his next update will allow imports from any recipe website - that means Thermomix recipecommunity and forum recipes could be imported. At the moment I copy and paste (easy too) and it means I have all my favourites on hand. The meals are easy to plan, the shopping list even easier. I've been looking for something and have finally found it. For $5.49 it was definitely worth it.

Chit Chat / Re: suggestions for feeding the masses

Any type of curry is an easy one. I usually make the curry sauce in the Thermomix and then make various curries using the same sauce. Chicken, prawn or vegetable Korma are a favourite. All it takes once the sauce is done to put it in the saucepan and add the other ingredients. For chicken or seafood. I brown the meat and then add the sauce and simmer for 20minutes before serving. For vegetables I just add them to the sauce and simmer again. Serve with rice, and small containers of yogurt, sultanas, cucumber, banana and homemade naan (double the TM recipe and only takes minutes in the hot oven). This has worked well with 8 adults and 8 children for me before.

Non Food Recipes / Re: Deoderant
« on: November 26, 2011, 07:35:11 am »
Just made this. Living in the tropics I think I'll be able to put this in an old roll on container and use it from there. It won't solidify again until at least April. Thanks so much for posting. I have been using my DH deodorant for a couple of days now and was just wondering what brand I'm going to buy.

Non Food Recipes / Re: Washing Machine Powder
« on: November 26, 2011, 07:08:33 am »
I ran out of powder last week and we had to resort to some bought liquid. Not a cheap brand either. After a couple of days, my DH who does the washing, commented that I must hurry up and make some more. This bought stuff just isn't as good. For someone who was skeptical to start with, this sure is a change.

Hi Dot, It's a big decision but one that's been worthwhile for me. I've learnt so much more by being a consultant, have become more creative in the kitchen. I love my customers and have so far enjoyed every demonstration I've done. The best way to go about it so to contact a Group leader in your area and spend some time chatting to them if they haven't got an open day coming up soon. You'll soon know if you want to  give it a go. There's no obligation. Good luck. I look forward to hearing what you've decided.

Welcome to the forum. I also got mine for my Birthday and quite a few extra birthdays and Christmas's to come. I don't mind though as it's the best and most used gift I've ever received. Enjoy the cooking with your new Thermie.

I like to have a some pizza bases in reserve for when I'm out. You could already top them if that's easier.

Chit Chat / Re: What do you buy in bulk? And where do you buy it?
« on: September 16, 2011, 11:11:08 am »
Love buying in bulk because I actually use it. I also find I'm cooking with more nuts and grains. Common nuts I now buy in 3kg lots, less used in 1kg lots, grains in 12.5kg lots.

Great decision Shanmac. It's hard for me to quantify the savings as we didn't have much take away. We have dropped our processed foods to <5% of our diet though and before it was maybe 30%. The real saving for me are being able to see things on special (that is when I have to go shopping, which isn't often any more) and know what I can create with them such as tomato sauce or butter or a soup. I can also buy bulk products such as flours, grains, nuts and not have them go off as they are core ingredients for most things I cook now. Enjoy the Thermomix. Pity you couldn't have it for Christmas. It's a great way to make gifts and prepare easy healthy meals for the holiday season. Have a great time in Hong Kong.

« on: August 21, 2011, 01:30:50 pm »
I usually cook something for our family and today also visitors to share for Breakfast. In the Thermomix today it was stawberry jam, pancake batter, cappucino, berry milk, hot chocolate. Yogurt tonight for school lunches and breakfast.

You should try and get a new consultant assigned to you in Sydney. I'm led to believe that it's part of the Thermomix customer support that your consultant helps you with any servicing. One of the big sellers when people buy a Thermomix - apart from the wonderful product itself.
