Title: Reflux - low acid diet
Post by: Pippav6 on December 31, 2012, 11:13:42 pm
Hi, in my second week of thermo ownership! If anyone has any favourite low acid recipes, it would be great to know. Have cooked a slightly adapted mushroom risotto from the fast and easy book that worked well.

Hi don't know if this is any help to anyone but reflux is something that I sometimes get as well.  Last year I saw a specialist who had a look round as in the past I have had an ulcer and he just wanted to check I didn't have another.  Well he found nothing but he did tell me to try A2 milk and not the low fat version but the full fat one.  He went on to tell me that most of the low fat products that are on the market have additives that sometimes playup with the gut.  Anyway, I have found this to be a great help and also don't have coffee in the evenings.  Good luck!!!

A naturopath friend has warned me about low fat products eg yoghurt milk etc. she says full fat is much safer for the same reasons you cited, Trudy.  I tried some full cream jersey milk a little while ago... It tasted nothing like any of the supermarket offerings and everything like the wonderful milk that came with the milkman decades ago!! Expensive though.  I now prefer goats milk when I can get it.

Hi, thanks for suggestions   :) will give full fat milk  a go. Have a feeling stemmed from gall bladder removal few years ago although that in itself seems to need to balance a diet....missing all the "nice" things!

We've struggled with gastric reflux in our house for many years. Both our younger kids have it & both had major abdominal surgery to correct it.  My son seems to be mostly good now, but my daughter has a dreadful time and is thinking about having the surgery again, although I'm not keen for her to go through that.
We started buying A2 milk about 9 years ago and cannot believe the difference it has made.  I am a very cynical person when it comes to dietary fads, but this really helps our kids.  We tended not to really notice until they drank ordinary milk again.
I'd suggest giving it a try.

I also have problems with reflux, ever since my first pregnancy.

I don't drink milk, but my sister said that I should drink a glass before bed each night. It certainly does help. I'll try the A2 milk in future.

Thanks, I'll try. Currently feel as though living on banana and ginger smoothies too much!  :-))

I'm just reading http://www.refluxcookbookblog.com which has a link to purchase http://www.amazon.com/Dropping-Acid-Reflux-Diet-Cookbook/dp/0982708319/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1312567904&sr=8-2.
There are many recipes suitable (but not converted) for TM eg risottos, oatmeal etc
The background explanations in the book are very god - and you get as in depth as you wish - or just look at the recipes.

Have noticed a difference (healthwise) after starting on the A2 milk.  Also for those than can drink it a teaspoon of barley grass powder in a glass of water each day helps greatly with reflux.
