Title: Cookbooks or anything kitcheny to give away or sell.
Post by: mcmich on November 04, 2012, 11:36:54 pm
Hi All,

I'm om the 40 bags in 40 days challenge again. I have some cookbooks to give away. Two are thermomix, the others just if anyone is interested. I am happy to send them anywhere if you just pay postage.

I have a lot more cookbooks but will wait and see what the response is like to these.

Mich  :)

LOL Hally,

I'm giving Nigella book away because I was disappointed in it. (doesn't mean someone won't like it)
The top book is Fired Up - a bbq cookbook by Ross Dobson.
The Donna Hay is a fruit cookbook, flicked through it once.

All the books are in good condition.

Michele what a great idea to pass on books you don't want.  If someone else can get the pleasure from them, it is a very generous offer you have put on the table.  Sounds like you are going to be very busy bundling up and posting off some packages this week. :-* :-*

I'm glad the books are going to cooks that will use them and then maybe pass them on.

Yvette, that's kind of you but you are doing me the favour.

Hally don't think I have any asian cookbooks, if I come across them will put them up here because obviously I don't use them.

I have Spice on my bookshelf. I really should dig it out and make something from it as the pictures are gorgeous.
I have far too many cookbooks too, but I do like reading through them from time to time instead of reading a novel. I have a hard time parting from books even though I never get enough time to read them as I spend all my time reading here instead :D ;D :-))

It's a full sized cook book, like a Women's Weekly one. I've attached the photo. It's got some good recipes, I just find I don't use recipes for casseroles!

Hello
You are all probably going to think I am bonkers, and selfish, but let me preface by saying that had I known this was an idea for giving away cookbooks I certainly would have done so.

I have spent the last several months cutting them up and scanning in the recipes that I want from that cookbook and then when I was finished, I chucked the cut up book away, I have kept all of the pages that have been scanned and saved and have an enormous pile of single sheet recipes. The/ paper copies are not in any order, just in a pile and have over 9,000 of them however have saved them all to PDF and store them on my iPad, so if I can help anyone with any and they don't mind getting it on pdf, please let me know.

Wow 50plus! What a huge effort! I've often thought to do something like that but thought it would be too much effort. How do you organise them all so you.com find what you are looking for?

I have to be very honest, I had my girl on the front desk do it, we have been very quiet this year work wise, and at lest she was employed even if she only scanned recipes.

Title: Re: Cookbooks to give away
Post by: 50plusandlovinglife on November 19, 2012, 03:59:09 am
Unfortunately I have had them on my Ipad, and on that you cant sort them into categories, so I have them on another tablet and they are sorted into categories eg. Bread, seafood, main meals, sides, desserts & baking etc.

I had major issues with my itunes, that now I just have one very very long list of recipes, I do however have noted wieghtwatchers WW, Woollies noted and some TMX recipes, so that if I want a thermomix recipe I just do a search on that, or if I want a custard scroll recipe, I search that. I know I will never use them all and more than likely not even a lot, it was something to do and it cleared out my hundreds of cookbooks. I have however, named the recipe the same as in the book, not put my own name on it to make it easier.
I can't take a lot of credit as all I did was cut them up, she scanned and renamed them.

To all those who requested cookbooks from me, I've posted them. Sheesh, postage is ridiculous! It was cheaper for me to post them in 3kg satchels, even though some of the packages were only just over 1kg.

So, all except MopTop, the postage is $12. MopTop, yours was $10.

Once again, details on this page under Policies>Payment.

Hope everyone enjoys their books!

She does answer the phone, the post and other office stuff as well (and the yucky things like doing the dishes from the coffee machine), fold plans, send emails and myob processing, but that's only when we have mail.
I think it was better to keep someone employed than have no one and when we get busy I would have had to find someone then anyway.
She is only filling in as she is going back to uni next year, so I don't think she has minded either.

Hi Ladies, the recipes are about 5gb altogether, approx 9000 items, so sending them would be a huge thing, if you let me know a type of recipe, eg baked custard, I can attach all of those and send as a zip file as there are so many
If you send an email to my home email account I can send them through leegrainger@westnet.com.au

Ok , its on its 2nd rise. I just couldnt help myself.

1. Dough extremely sticky had to use more flour when playing on bench
2. Never earen  raw dough,  never ever had any interest in eating raw dough
BUT, I could not stop myself, the dough is absolutely delicious :P
3. Meant to free form,  have put in loaf tin & I feared it would spread rather than rise
4.  The long wait,
5. A few concerns as I dd it all in TM.

Oven ready, meant to brush with egg yolk & dust with rice flour. I have just a little normal flour on top.
Dont think its meant to be a high rise bread, as the recipe says you can make as bread sticks too.

Marie, I finished reading the recipe book you sent me last night and I must say I am very impressed with it.  There are 52 recipes in it that I'd like to do - hopefully I'll get to convert and do some of them at least.  I am so pleased you had 2 copies and were prepared to give away your second one and I thank you again for it.  :-* :-*

Megan I was so excited to receive my book that I completely forgot to thank you for the soap.  What lovely surprise to find an extra gift in my parcel.  You are very generous and I very much appreciate it.  I had a lovely night on the couch with my book and a packet of sticky notes!  Lots of recipes have been added to my 'must make' list.  I am a big fan of warm salads and was thrilled to find some.
Big hugs to you.

Excellent idea dede. Not that you aren't busy enough. It would be good to have a list of things to do if you get a craving.

I'm a lists girl - love them. I'm trying to loose weight and have a list of cleaning, sorting and giving away to do too when I feel like eating between meals.

Same here mcmich . . . .I'm a nibbler and a grazer from way back and it's sure hard to break the habit!  But I'm slowly getting more done that should be done to fight off the temptation . . . :)

Not coobooks to give away this time but didn't know where to post this. If anyone is interested in the chip maker that many of us bought a few months ago I'm giving mine away. Used it once - won't use it again - still in original packaging. Colour is red as that's my favourite colour.  :)

Cookie, It concentrates teaching one main recipe which is a Basic country bread dough (sourdough) and from that other recipes develop.  The quantities are based on the bakers percentages, using a total flour of 1kg. It has details and pictures of what the dough should look like etc. and from this dough other recipes are developed.  Such as Olive oil Brioche, English Muffins. Walnut, Sesame, Polenta.  Also recipe for whole wheat (sourdough) bread. Semolina bread containing fennel & sesame seeds. Has some dessert recipes using bread.

Not really Cookie - I still have 35 WW books and that's not counting the small ones. Not to mention all my other cookbooks.  :-X

If someone can put them to use then I'm happy to have freed up the space. If they don't go then I'll send them to the Op-Shop with all the other things I haven't used in the past few years.

Just wish I had the strength to let the Donna Hay Magazines go. I don't look at them very often. Another time maybe?

I agree with you Cookie but when I was waiting for my car to be serviced yesterday I picked one up from the waiting room supply and there were some great recipes in that edition. I tore them out, something I never do but I had no pen or paper and I just had to have those recipes.

I suppose it's not hard to get rid of them because most were purchased for between 20c - $2.00 from Op-Shops and I'm happy to look through them and pass them on. Cheaper than magazines.

Hello again,

Would anyone like a 5 in 1 cooker? I have used it and it is in excellent condition. I love the browning feature, have used it as a slow cooker and a pressure cooker. When I looked at how I cook, it is dominantly TMX and slow cooker (I have several slow cookers). If I am able pass this on I would be very happy. Just think about the postage though. It is heavy.

Hope someone will be able to enjoy it.  :D

Mich have you got many cookbooks left in your kitchen? You have given away heaps. Have you ever gone to make something and thought "oh, that recipe was in the book I gave away" ?  I think I may need to get rid of my microwave soon so I can make space for more cookbooks. The more I try and not buy them the more I do!
Title: Re: Cookbooks or anything kitcheny to give away or sell.

CP, I can't even remember what I have given away, so certainly don't miss them. I have scanned a few recipes out of books that I have given away but only a handful and can't say that I have actually cooked them since then.  :-))

I would like to get my cookbook collection to fit on this one shelf below. At the moment I am quite a long way from the finish line - in other words I still have way too many cookbooks. They do bring me pleasure though and I enjoy a glass of wine and browsing through a cookbook. I received my book from Michele on Saturday morning and had a quick flick through.  Saw this recipe, had all the ingredients and it was quick to make so here's the Oat Slice (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=15342.0) from Merle's Kitchen.  It cuts better if left to go completely cold and is crisp, crunchy and very much the taste of an Anzac biscuit.  Thanks Michele, I've now had a chance to go right through the book and there are some lovely recipes in there which I would love to make.

Oops  ??? For Foods Sake hasn't been taken yet. If anyone would like it, it's still available.
It's not so hard for me to pass these books on as I eat differently now and still have more than an average amount of cookbooks.
The more I've done it the easier it is. Things I couldn't part with 6 months ago are easy to give away now.

A BIG thankyou to you all for taking these books off my hands.  :-*

Women's Weekly and Donna Hay cookbooks have been taken. Oz Harvest still available - I feel a bit guilty about this one. I am an experienced declutterer and know how to deal with sentimental and guilt items. What are you eating nowadays Mich? I too bought the OzHarvest book when it was all the rage here on the forum and I have barely even looked at it. I feel worse that its a company that frowns upon wastage  :-\
Title: Re: Cookbooks or anything kitcheny to give away or sell.

The wastage part is the guilt I'm experiencing. We or mostly me since I went on the study eat a vegan diet. There are probably some vegan recipes or recipes that could be vegan in Oz Harvest but as I have plenty of vegan cookbooks and online sources I would like to pass it on to someone that would like to have it.  :)

Wondering if anyone with a Philips airfryer would like the rack? I bought it for the Kogan but it's just a tiny bit big. It weighs over 500gms in the packaging so would need to be sent in a 3kg bag - postage would be $11.40.

Katie the book is yours. Thankyou for the offer of the colouring  book Katie. My friend, that I have been helping move has  shown me hers.
She says her mind turns off and she doesn't constantly think about her son. I would find it very stressful to have to choose colours and just looking at some of the patterns makes me giddy.

So Blessed - the book has gone but the rack is available - was wondering after all this time what to do with it?

Would you please PM your addresses - Katie, I posted to JD's last time and So Blessed I don't have your details.

Very Happy  ;D

All this house painting is causing a massive clean up. Not before time I will admit. I’m going through my cookbooks at the moment. I have 4 books from Thermobexta that have been hardly used. If anyone would like them they are all yours. I found that they didn’t really fit in with our eating style.

These are great books I do use them a lot , main meals made easy is a great one too . I find I add meat into a lot of them as they have that option . Try the Dahl with red lentils , DH likes this and he is a meat eater .

Oh gosh, that was very quick. DD has been waiting on a parcel from Sydney for over 3 weeks. Actually it is in Perth, just sitting at the airport-its been there a week.
