cook key
« on: June 03, 2017, 07:37:41 am »
Hi there,
I'm in Australia and just wondering have i wasted a lot of money buying chips with books if the cook-key (coming soon) gives you access to all those recipes.  Does anyone have the cook-key and is able to give me an answer.

If you have the cook-key how does it work ie. cost involved to keep accessing recipes or are we better off to stick with the chips?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry but I don't really know anything at all about the cook-key. I have 3 chips for my machine, but I seem to use the books in preference.
I cook almost everything in my thermomix but use recipes from here, other cookbooks or adapt them as I go.
Hopefully someone will be able to help you.

Dean, I may be wrong but my understanding is that once you get you key you register your chips.  You may have to pay a small amount each year for your access to other counties books.  We should know more about things soon as have heard it's due for release here in Australia later this year.

I think the U.K. will be at the back of the queue :-)) Many UK TM owners are buying the Cookkey from Europe where it's been available for months.

Same here Denise.  I know of at least 4 that have done that although have no idea where you would register them.

My son said it could be done. But then TMX would not make any money from this.

OK so is anyone thinking about getting the cook key ? Not sure what this means for the chips and books now ? So Wounder if the chips will continue to come . Not really sure if it is of any real  benefit or not . Mini servers would be handy and if you could translate some recipes .

Hi All,
I was at a TM demo recently and asked the consultant about the Cook Key.  Apparently it will come with an online subscription for the first 6 months included in your purchase price (I think she said about $149.95?).  Anyway, after that you will have to pay a subscription to maintain the access.  The subscription will give you access to 27,000 recipes, which I assume is all the TM approved recipes worldwide (whether currently on chips or cookbooks).  I'm not sure however if this covers any other TM sources, like the RecipeCommunity.  I also don't know whether it converts recipes from other countries into your language of choice.  eg, if there's a recipe from Germany that I want to make, will it be in English on my Cookkey?
My understanding is also that they will continue with chips and cookbooks for the non-Cookkey adopters.
So many questions, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see next week.

Here we go, I found out everything you need to know about the Cook-key.  It's got it's own website:  https://cook-key.com.au/

Due for release in October, it will be $189 with a subscription via Cookidoo that gives you access to all available TM approved recipes.

You make playlists of your favourite recipes and sync them onto the Cook-key.  Once your TM5 and your Cook-key are synced with the playlist you can be without Wi-Fi and the recipes you've synced to the Cook-key will continue to work, but you must have Wi-Fi to sync the playlist in the first place.  You can even make notes on the recipes to tailor it to your preferences.

Looks good.

Thanks for that information Jenny, it may be of interest to those with a TM5.  I'm not in that category.
