I've had the C160 and my machine is back home now. I have the feeling that the locking arms and "nipple" will be causing a few problems. If I am not careful I get caught on the left locking arm, if I have long sleeves or a watch on. I tend to have my arm over the top. I must learn to be more careful.

can you share how did the error popped up? I would like to stress test mine before warranty ends..

error c160 + c145 based on my experience..
in case if anyone was wondering how the error happened.. or would like to stress test TM before warranty ends for fixing.

1. steam chicken using TM varoma for long time.. set time for about 1 hour
2. stop TM by pressing the round button at about > 30 minutes
3. take off varoma. take off TM lid.
4. put back TM lid or both TM lid + varoma
5. try to continue cooking with TM.
6. c160 + c145 error appears continously if you try getting TM to continue cooking

extracted from fb post :

149 Errors moving to 150 (shutdown and needs to go to HO) if the little switch behind the bowl is not returned to its home position. This is the little grey 'nipple' near the L hand locking arm. Do not touch unless you notice it permanently facing downward.

·        144 Errors and 160 Errors happen when the locking arms try to close down on the lid and it is not there or not in place correctly.  What happens is the arms over compensate and try to go too far.  Just need to check that the lid is in correctly for 144 Errors.  160 Errors – this can occur if the arms are continuously overcompensating (can be a result of too many 144 Errors or may happen on its own).  If this error occurs during cooking (food in bowl), it will stop.  All you need to do is turn off and turn back on to remove the food and then it will need to be sent to Service.  Service Department have advised that there have not been many of these errors.

·        38 Errors – this is a power board issue and it will need to come into Service.

·        153 Error – not common but in some TM5’s there is a small plug inside that seems to have worked its way loose.  Will need to come back to Service for this issue.

That last guideline is incorrect according to Thermomix Australia. If you turn it off 3 times without shutting the machine down, it will simply take you back through the start up screens.

not sure if this was true.. I would be happy if it was.. personally, i wouldn't take any chances
any willing tester?  ;D

"Do not switch off at the wall before you shut down the machine! I was holding the baby while my demonstrator was telling me how to use the machine and so I didn’t pay attention to switching it off. Then when I was pressing the dial and it wasn’t turning off I just had to switch it off on the wall. WRONG. Tenina told me that if you do that at least 3 times you have to send the machine back to get it reset. Don’t. If you want to turn off the machine just press the dial until the shut down message comes on and then the machine will shut down. Phew. I did it twice."

I notice this has not been done anywhere else. There are lots of cooking and cleaning guides but no troubleshooting information. I'd like to suggest having a a list of error codes + troubleshooting guide for TM5 section / thread

Even in the event users can't troubleshoot themself, at least we know what is happening.

Messages and error codes gathered from various sources:

Error codes:
----------------
C143
C150
C55 errors message for scales
C34 Motor overload. Please check if bowl content blocks knife
C153 device switches off. Please confirm and restart."
C513 could not access Thermomix recipe chip. Please clean contacts and reconnect

Experience from other Thermomix User:
----------------
C561 communication error with accessory. Please restart Thermomix
Initially restart and say it shutdown unexpectedly and take me through the initial set up messages again

C144 lid cannot be locked into position. check mixing bowl and lid are positioned correctly
C160 'Device Switching Off'
error C160 is the tension screws behind the grill at the back. And C144 is related to error C160

Guidelines
----------------
not to turn off TM5 directly off wall switch without shutting down.
3 times doing that and you have to send the machine back to get it reset
