Jelly Whip
Inspired by Judy's one whip icecream, I found my mother's jelly whip recipe from my childhood and this is the conversion.
Ingredients:
1 cup light evaporated milk
1 cup boiling water
1 pkt jelly crystals
Method:
Place evaporated milk in freezer until icy cold (I put whole can in for about 1 1/2 hours).
Place tmx bowl in refrigerator to chill.
Dissolve jelly crystals in boiling water. Allow to cool but not set.
Place 1 cup of chilled milk in tmx bowl with butterfly inserted and whip 2 minutes, speed 4 until thick and fluffy.
Whilst on speed 4 pour in jelly through hole of lid and whip for another minute or two until thick and fluffy.
Pour into serving bowls and set in refrigerator. Serves 6.
I used Berry vanilla low calorie jelly crystals, but any flavour or type of jelly crystals is fine.

Jamberie - Oh yes, I've made a version of this from a Symply Too Good to be True recipe.
This is Annette's
2 cups frozen Berries
3/4 cup CHILLED light evaporated milk
2 x 200g tubs diet berry yogurt
1 sachet lite rasberry jelly
1/4 cup boiling water
Semi defrost berries. Place evaporated milk in freezer until icy cold, Place locked in refrigerator to chill.
Place chilled milk in TM locked with butterfly inserted and whip 2 minutes, speed 4 until thick and fluffy.
Whilst on speed 4 pour in yogurt through hole of lid and whip for another minute or two until thick and fluffy remove butterfly and mix in berries on counterclock speed 1 for a few seconds until blended through. Dissolve jelly in water pour into bowl mix for 2-3 seconds, counterclock for a few seconds there should still be small pieces of berries through mixture.
Pour into serving bowls and set in refrigerator. Serves 6 - 8.
Bootobethin - I made this today with 1 cup of frozen soy milk. It worked beautifully!
I froze the soy milk over night and then removed it from the freezer while I made the jelly.
I put the frozen milk into the Thermomix and processed for 5 seconds speed 8.
I then put the butterfly in and followed the recipe.
The result was a very light and fluffy dairy free dessert.
So easy! Thanks Kimmyh.
deedub - I made this the other day and while the texture was great, I really didn't like the flavour, and neither did the kids. Suspect it was the jelly I used, just tasted too 'artificial'? Ended up chucking it out - next time i think I'll try a variation using gelatin instead.

Kimmy I remember this well. In fact I used to make it. It was very fashionable. Mum used to make a peach torte using this idea. I will hunt the recipe out and share it. It was rather nice.
-
Oh yum, I remember this as well :)
I wonder if the kids will like it?
-
Oh yes, I've made a version of this from a Symply Too Good to be True recipe...I'll list changes that Annette Sym uses to make it lower in sugar and calories (maybe just diet jelly? -I can't remember), when I get the recipe books back from my mum so that everyone can try it :)
Thanks for sharing a great recipe Kimmy

Childhood memories, yes used to like this , I will have to try and remember to give it a go,when the GK's come over.
-
Is this what we used to call flummery? You won' believe this, but I put a tin of low fat milk in the fridge this morning.
-
Yes Chookie Flummery what a good memory.
-
My mum used to make this when we were kids. Might make it for the GD's when they come.
-
When I first joined the Forum, and need a lot of help from Judy and Thermomixer, , I posted a recipe called, Old fashioned , Pineapple Pudding. Similar. Will make again to test the recipe.
-
That sounds yummy chookie. Yes girls the children will love it. I think it is light if you use the low calorie jelly.
-
Kimmyh, just found my mum's flummery recipe. I will convert and test. Passion fruit, oranges and lemon.

I remember those .. My mum and her sister made these all the time for us... And that was many many years ago
-
Oh! This takes me back to my childhood also Kimmyh. Will have to make it for my grandchildren. Thankyou.
-
Do you think I could use soy milk or nut milk as a substitute for the evaporated milk?
It would be great to make this dairy free if possible but the evaporated milk may "whip" better than the substitutes.
Any suggestions?
-
Yes, us older members remember this one Kimmy - you're much younger than us so I can only presume you have a copy of all your Mum's favourite recipes?
-
Not sure I know what jelly whip is? would it be like Angel Delight or Blancmange?
-
Yes GHM like that or a flummery.
Have not had passion fruit flummery in a long time chookie but still remember how good it is.
I am not sure if soy milk would work but for the sake of wasting 1 cup it's worth a try. Let us know how you go.
Yes I did Judy and this is what I found. It has your one whip icecream printed on the back too.

In the UK it was called milk jelly. Sometimes it separates and you get a two tone pudding. One more jelly, the other fluffier.
I'd actually still make this in the kenwood with the whisk.
-
I don't have that little booklet Kimmy but I daresay I did have at one stage. I found the ice-cream recipe in a very old cookbook, they are so interesting to look back on - simple & very few ingredients.
-
My mum Nd grandma used to make this. I will have to give it a try :)
See if the kids like it
-
I will do the passion fruit Flummery tomorrow. Looks ideal for the Tmx, has a little flour in it and gelatine.
-
Sounds great chookie. In the meantime i will ask mum where her old flummery recipe is and we can compare notes :) I can almost taste it ;D
-
Flummery here is oatmeal cream and whiskey! With berries on top!
-
You English people have some strange adaptations of recipes DJ :D :D Perhaps we should try yours and you should try ours ;)

Now you're talking, DJ!!!! Lol
-
Would love to try this. Will have to find some natural jelly crystals.
-
I have made and posted my Flummery recipe.
DJ, i rather like the sound of yours.
DG, you just buy Gelatin. It is handy to have on hand.
-
Thanks chookie will print it out.
DJ yours sounds great.

Ahhh, thanks for posting that one berringamababe- and converting it!..I thought it had yoghurt....not quite as simple as Kimmy's version but might be better for people who watch their sugar?
-
kimmyh,v thanks for getting us started on this. There are many variations.
-
That's the best thing about this forum chookie. One recipe sparks a run of more recipes. It's also pretty cool when food brings back childhood memories :D
-
Posted the UK variations in chookies flummery thread.

DJ, woukd this be like angel delight?
-
No.... Angel delight is very synthetic tasting. Hardly ever had it and not for years. So my remembrance may not be valid. LOL
This tastes exactly what it is jelly and evap milk. LOL
-
Used to love Angel Delght as a child :)

Me too! In fact it was the first thing I bought when I went home to visit (along with pickled onion monster munch!).
As a kid I remember having blancmange and I hated the texture. It was kind of grainy. Is this the same as blancmange or more mousse like?
-
Not grainy like blancmange at all.
Very airy, if you whip it well enough.
-
Yeah bootobethin. So glad it worked. I love soy milk so will try this next too. glad you could make it dairy free and enjoyed it :)

Sounds great. I'll give it a try.

Was meant to make today, but the evap milk is still in the freezer, ooops
Ever mind we have cake & home made ice cream for dessert.
