An interesting technique for cake bakers
« on: February 10, 2012, 11:05:37 pm »
I'm posting this because of the photos and the technique, not for the recipe itself.

As we have some very talented cake bakers on this forum, I'm sure they can do this with their own recipes.

I think it is spectacular and there are many other colors that would work in the same way.

Has anyone ever seen one of those in a rainbow? Looks lovely but I couldn't bring myself to use the food colorings  :-\

Meagan have you seen these before http://www.healthykidz.com.au/about-us/make-it-yourself/natural-food-colourings - I have never used them but maybe they are a little better than the normal food colorings?

I love the effect Andie. It truly looks beautiful.

Here in the US we can get  India Tree Natural food colors  They are located in Seattle, Washington state.

There should be something similar available in other countries.

Hi Meagan, would you mind sharing your spinach and raspberry icing recipe?  Thank you.

Interesting looking cake - but I agree re the artificial colours
And also using cake mixes. I have a woman's weekly baking book that's lovely save for the fact that it tells you to use a cake mix for some of the party cakes. Not even an alternative recipe given. Though I realise I could do something of my own.  Just irks me that the focus is on what it looks like with no apparent consideration for taste or health.

Rant over. I too appear to be tired and cranky! Sorry.
