Recipe Requests / Unripe plums
« on: January 17, 2015, 11:49:47 am »
Hi folks. Last weekend my husband passed on a gift of many kilos of I ripe plums. They might be damson plums. Green with a blush of burgundy outside and sour and green inside.

I've been googling and hunting around here for different ideas but the time has come and tomorrow I Must move them off my to do list.

Does anyone have a 'must try' recipe to make use of these delights?

Grateful for ideas.
Theresa.

Ok ladies, I'm en route to Brisbane from Mount Panorama, Bathurst on the greatest week of the year to live near The Mount.

Looking for ways to occupy a Friday afternoon and a Sunday morning. I'm staying in the fortitude valley and looking for food, shopping and fun recommendations.

Any suggestions welcome,
Theresa.

Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Review of Savoury Spelt Muffins in QFEO
« on: March 01, 2014, 03:00:27 am »
Baked these today. Was delighted to be able to make them using essentially pantry staples. (I had spelt flour in stock from Christmas baking). My slow roasted tomatoes were in the freezer from last season and the veggies all needed to be used.

I made 12 largish cup cake size muffins and 4 full size muffins. They were a touch dense. Not sure if that was the melted cheese or whether a few more minutes cooking was indicated.

My 5 year old devoured 2 and the 2 year old enjoyed his. They were delicious fresh out of the oven as well as cool. The leftovers are in the freezer for lunches.

Overall a very tasty dish and straight forward instructions (just like every AA recipe I have tried)

Will enjoy them again.

Chit Chat / Silverside suggestions?
« on: February 23, 2014, 02:04:44 am »
I have a piece of corned silverside that will fit in the TMX basket. I haven't been game to try coking a regular piece in tmx as I am generally cooking it to entertain with and I know I'm happy with my oven technique. So this is a test piece for TMX.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I prepare it. Being that it fits in the basket does it need the varoma? Would it boil or steam in the jug.

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Cake stall protocol
« on: September 11, 2013, 12:47:54 pm »
Just a consensus question. We have a school fete on Sunday. As a general rule, does baking a cake in advance then defrosting work for sale items or do the cakes really need to be fresh?

Recipe Requests / Cake decorating idea
« on: August 02, 2013, 02:06:11 am »
I'm contemplating making marshmallow but not whipping so thick. Then pouring it over a collection of moulded cupcakes (train carriages) then decorating with cake paint (food dye thinned in alcohol).

Does anyone think this idea might work? Or is it a silly experiment?

Recipe Requests / Birthday cake ideas
« on: July 21, 2013, 01:33:03 pm »

My big boy turns 5 next month and is having a train party. These are his last 3 cakes. I really have to go trains again (not the AWW one). I have the silicone mold but remember struggling to ice these. Ganache seemed to work well. I'm planning to trial magic bean cake in them this week.

Are there any other suggestions on how to ice/decorate these? Not sure if a sprinkle of sugar is enough.

Recipe Requests / Quirky Jo's creamy chicken and brown rice soup
« on: July 14, 2013, 12:55:28 am »
I have this on my to do list and I have two questions.

Can I use my leftover pulp from almond and rice milk instead of a fresh mill ? (I'm guessing the flavour wouldn't be as rich).

I'm out of celery. Can I substitute silverbeet stems?

Thank you for your thoughts

Recipe Requests / Crumbling cakes
« on: July 09, 2013, 01:07:16 pm »
I've made a few batches of cupcakes this week. The never fail cupcakes and a converted and modified to be gluten free Dan Lepard Chocolate custard cupcake. Both are a little on the crumbly side. Is that a sign that i I am over mixing?

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Varoma lid rocking
« on: June 30, 2013, 02:08:31 pm »
My consultant is working on this one for me but has anyone seen their varoma lid rocking? It seems to have warped on its first outing and can be rocked side to side rather than fitting flush. It still works as it straightens when hot and the lid is designed to let steam escape. Just curious.

Chit Chat / Oh no!

I want to try another bread recipe, DH likes fresh baked bread but thinks I've gone overboard and has suggested I've never made a 'normal' loaf (forgetful soul). The problem is I'm down to my last 400g of bread flour and have no more yeast!

Shopping tomorrow. What is your least favourite staple to run out of?

Introduce Yourself / Hi from Regional NSW

Greetings everybody,

I'm Theresa, mum to 2 boys (nearly 5 and 20 months).
I've been reading posts via Tapatalk for a few days but today was my first chance to get onto a device that I could use to register to the forum.

After 2 years on contemplation, I've had my thermomix for 10 days now and am having fun with lots of first attempts. I'm grateful for all your recipe reviews and adaptations.

Our family have no food sensitivities but I'm hoping to reduce the additive contents of the little boys diets. I generally get 30 minutes between home time and dinner on the table so quick cooks are essential.

Tonight is the Donna Hay chicken nuggets. Little boy has been sick so hopefully I get my hands back soon.
