Title: Scales Grrrr!

I had a bit of an issue a month or so back with my scales not weighing correctly. I used a 500g pat of butter to check and they were WAY off. I called HO and the guy I spoke to was great and he sent me a checklist to try before I would have to send it in to be fixed. Anyway the scales ended up weighing correctly until now. They were way off today while I was doing banana and choc muffins. I was adding oil and it just seemed I was adding way too much for the weight my scales showed. I weighed the sugar on my trusty digital scales then weighed in thermie and it was so off! Something like 150g came in at 70g! Has anyone else had this problem?

My scales are ok, if I want accurate measurements I use my digital ones as the TMX ones are a bit out but not enough to be much of a problem, I think liquids are more of a problem than solid weights, make sure you don't tap on the side of your bowl with the spatula when cooking I'd've heard this can upset the scales, make sure there are no crumbs under the feet.

Hi,  I'm having the same issue with my scales.

I sent a message through the website.  I got a an email from a local consultant to do the checklist and my scales were not right.

So I sent a reply and got a phone call the next day.  I could organise to send them straight away for adjustment or wait until after christmas if I wanted.  I've chosen to wait as she said it usually takes over 10 days to get them back again and I really don't want to do without them at the moment.

I was really happy with this, and hope that they can be easily fixed (and that it doesn't happen again!).

My tmx is 18 months old.

Thanks all. I think if it happens again I'll get them sent off. I'm suspecting this is the reason my baking never works out!

I've had scales issues a couple of times already, but it's user error in my case!  e.g. Things have been put near the TMX and ended up leaning against it, or the cord got tangled and went partly under the machine.  :-[
Hope yours get fixed up quickly - 10 days would seem like forever!!

Re the scales I have found if you need precise measurements you really need to use good digital scales.. You cant for example pour in flour or sugar in a fine pour or it wont register correctly etc.. Dulse flakes are another ..impossible to read the correct weight. If putting butter or flour or sugar etc I find you need to do it in tblspns or chunks for it to be accurate..

I agree anything that needs precise measurements or small amounts I still use my digital scales.

I do anything less than about 30 g on other scales.

I do what the others do for smaller amounts - use my digital scales.  When I'm about to cook the first thing for the day in the Thermomix, I weigh the MC to make sure it's correct - if that's out I just check the surrounding area of the thermomix and make sure everything is where it should be.  My MC always weighs 25g, others have said theirs weighs 25-30g.

I had the same problem, but my books were leaning on the side of Thermie.  Thought they looked good there and were handy.  They have a new home now. Lesson learnt .

What I would like to know ia why they are so inaccurate in such an expensive machine? They should be bang on and if they are not TM should be looking at why and then sorting this out. Sorry but I would not be very happy if mine were out even by 1g  given that you can by digital scales for £5 and they are spot on every time!
