Title: Left over Christmas Ham Pasta
Post by: Halex on December 16, 2012, 12:02:04 pm
This is a version of a pasta by Nigella from her app
Serves 4-6

Ingredients
400g pasta, I used bow, i use Barilla pasta
200g frozen peas
300 mls cream
300g christmas ham, chopped
Shredded parmesan cheese to taste

Method
Add parmesan to tm bowl & grate, set aside
Add pasta to thermo server, cover with boiling water.
Add peas after 7 mins
Add cream, parmesan & chopped ham to TM, 80 degrees speed 1, reverse 5 mins to heat, test after 5.

Drain peas & pasta, return to thermo server, pour sauce in & season with salt & black pepper.

Serve, add more parmesan to taste & s&p.

Quick & easy, made this tonight for cp, he loved it.

We have 4 large serves from it. Both cp & dh have requested this for lunch.

Gert - Love this recipe Hally. I also like scalloped potatoes and ham. Love it cold too.

AB - really nice, quick and easy, I used baby shells.

jo nz - DH said it was even better today, although clearly was not too bad last night either!

cookie - We loved it too. It is not our usual week night meal but was very nice. Will definitely make it again.

kt2 - really enjoyed it. Very easy and tasty too. Thanks for sharing the recipe Hally.

maddy - Quick & easy and little effort required. I threw 1 garlic clove on running blades before making the sauce and used orecchiette pasta. Subbed corn as we are a "pea free zone" here.

JD - This is a great recipe Hally.  I only wanted enough for 2 so, with the addition of a couple of ingredients, these are the quantities I used.
100g spiral pasta
85g mixed veg
2 tblspns grated parmesan in the recipe and another 2T for sprinkling on top
75g ham
1/2 tsp garlic paste
80g cream
35g roasted red capsicum
My pasta wasn't cooked enough for me at the end so I added it back to the TM bowl with the rest of the ingredients and cooked 2 mins/100o/reverse/speed 1.  I let it sit for 2 minutes before serving. The roasted red capsicum gave the dish a pinkish hue.  Delicious, quick meal - thanks Hally.

blackwood - This was such a quick and easy recipe. I used chicken instead of ham and as the chicken was already cooked, I added it at the end of the cooking time, just to heat it up.
I had frozen peas and corn mix in the freezer so just added that. I also added some mushrooms into the TM bowl and cooked them in a little butter before adding the cream, etc. Can't wait to try this again with ham! Thanks for such an easy recipe!

Deniser - Oh My Goodness.  What an easy recipe. Never though to cook pasta this way - how simple and quick.  Good one!

Katiej - I made this this afternoon to use up some of our ham.  We'll be having it for lunch tomorrow and I've placed the rest in lunch size portions in the freezer. I didn't have any peas so I cooked some mushrooms and zucchini in a little butter for a few minutes before adding the cream.  Also added some garlic and chilli.  The little bit I tasted is lovely.

We have nearly finished our first one Judy. We have ham steaks, use it in quiches and DH has a ham sandwich every day and then we make pea and ham soup. I will pick up our second one this week.

We cracked open our big leg of ham on Sunday, so this sounds good for dinner tonight.  We have another half leg of ham coming too.  At least there are some perks of being self-employed - these are from suppliers (although I'm sure we pay for it all really!).

I love bacon, pancetta prosciutto etc but can't eat ham.  No idea why as I really like pork also.

DH just ate up the last bit of this - there was about 2 spoonfuls left after dinner last night (and only 3 of us were at home for dinner).  He said it was even better today, although clearly was not too bad last night either!

This is a great recipe Hally.  I only wanted enough for 2 so, with the addition of a couple of ingredients, these are the quantities I used.   I didn't get a picture before but DH is a pretty slow eater so this is what's left of his after I had already finished mine and had dessert as well  :-))  I wouldn't have bothered with a picture but it does look different with what I added.

100g spiral pasta
85g mixed veg
2 tblspns grated parmesan in the recipe and another 2T for sprinkling on top
75g ham
1/2 tsp garlic paste
80g cream
35g roasted red capsicum

My pasta wasn't cooked enough for me at the end so I added it back to the TM bowl with the rest of the ingredients and cooked 2mins/100o/reverse/speed 1.  I let it sit for 2 minutes before serving.

Yes JD, quick meal, cheaper & better than take out. Gad you liked it :)

I find Barilla cooks well in the thermo server, used another  brand & it didnt.

 :)

This was such a quick and easy recipe. I used chicken instead of ham (because that's what I had in the fridge that needed using up). As the chicken was already cooked, i added it at the end of the cooking time, just to heat it up.

I had frozen peas and corn mix in the freezer so just added that. I also added some mushrooms into the TM bowl and cooked them in a little butter before adding the cream, etc.

I am still spun out that you can cook asta in this way! I am totally amazed! Talk about saving energy!

Can't wait to try this again with ham!

Thanks for such an easy recipe! :)

I made a note on my copy to try chicken next time myself blackwood - I'm more likely to have leftover chicken than ham now Christmas is over. I think this recipe has great possibilities for all sorts of alternatives.

Bkacwood, totally agree, what a great way to use left overs. Cheap, tasty  & quicker than a take away :)

My DH has requested we "get rid" of the left over ham today as he is sick of it being in the fridge.  Going to make this later today and I'm sure it will be lovely.

I told him I'd found a quick recipe on the forum to use some more of the ham - he replied I loved that forum, so many great things come from it!

Thanks Hally  :D

Any idea ow to make this without a thermoserver?
Cook pasta in a pan maybe?

Guess you could try it in a saucepan with a lid.  If it's not completely cooked (like mine) add it back to the sauce in the TM bowl and cook it a little more.
